The Arc
Had this idea for a NPC supervillain teen named Kvizkid. He's inspired by the Riddler/the Cluemaster.... While I've given him a good dose of skills, I'm coming up a little dry in the powers department (other than a reinforced costume)... So what powers would this type of character have? I'm also giving him a pair of followers named Q & A who're based on Sugar and Spice from the Movie Batman Forever... I'm debating giving him generic martial arts as well... Thoughts?? Input??? The Arc
Oh and if this helps, here's an image of him... Physically I've based him on Seth Green...So he stands about 5'3" tall...
steriaca
Let me think? Question Mark shaped blasters. Question Mark shaped blades. Shock Tazer hidden on each glove. Device which looks like a game show singling device. Razor sharp triva cards. Exploding pawns. Reinforced throwing dice. I would do more, but I would be repeating myself. TheQuestionMan
He Poisons a criminal and provides three options; #1 Puts his to sleep Simulating Death he wakes up in a coffin held until he confesses. #2 Cures the Poison, #3 Cures the Poison, but leaves them weak as a Babe for a couple of hours. Asks a Question you must answer. Answer correctly you go free. Answer incorrectly and you must Answer another Question. Mind Control/Entangle "If I answer the Question correctly I am not Paralyzed" - SFX Only. Cheers QM
The Arc
I like the idea of the dice... Brings to mind the game show High Rollers, which gives me ideas for Kvizkid's quote "And here's the man with the action, Kvizkid!" So how to build giant dice. Or maybe do something like a MP, like Gypsy from CLOWN? Not too sure about question mark themed weapons as it's a little too much like the Riddler's question mark cane. So let's think about game show powers... Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal, Family Feud, etc....
The Arc
I think I could come up with a bunch of deathtraps, but deathtraps are more themes than powers.... "Is it door number one, or door number two, or door number three. So tell me hero which one holds your girlfriend."
The Arc
Here's a breakdown of how I've spent the points of Kvizkid. I've spent 82 points on characteristics, 45 points on skills, and 15 points on Perks (for Question and Answer-I originally was going to have them at 150 points, but lowered them to 100 points shaving off 5 character points) and 14 points on Powers (which is his reinforced costume). So that leaves around 89 to play with... Also too I'd like input on some disads for Kvizkid as well... Thanks a bunch...Maybe you'll make it to the Lightning Round.... 薔薇語
Maybe he could acquire information by draining it from victims: two minor transforms linked together - one to (temporarily) erase a memory / fact and one to insert that exact memory / fact into his head. 薔薇語
For some disads: "I must know!" - A weak (or strong) psych lim that compels him to learn the answer to any questions posed if he doesn't already know. It is also a major motivator for him to find out the ID of various heroes (and villains). "How novel!" - If he has my above power, maybe he could have a compulsion to acquire new and unique memories. Thus if he sees the chance to take an interesting memory from someone he might actually stop the other plans he has in place to fulfill that quest. ADHD syndrome in a way. La Rose. steriaca
Another old tyme game shows to look into: Remote Control and Supercade.
steriaca
Sorry. I missremembered the name of one of the shows. It is Starcade (players answer video game related questions to earn play time, then play a video game for the right to own...a arcade game unit for their own). Movies to check out: The Running Man, and The OhOh Show.
freakboy6117
hmmm I assume his shtick is his encyclopedic knowledge so obvious things would be I know how you fight Overall combat skill levels requires a skill roll I know where you will be Energy blast indirect any direction (SFX preposition-ed mines) requires a skill roll I know what scares you extra presence only for presence attacks requires a skill roll only effects one person at a time I know a short cut Tele-port only when not observed requires an area knowledge roll. Logan D. Hurricanes
As the resident Riddler mark, he just isn't that expensive. It's all in the resources and style. But it sounds like you're looking for something a little more direct, so here are a few ideas I've played with previously. Confusion: Negative skill levels as an attack. (Used top do it with EC.) --Watch That Last Step: TK, only vs. those affected by confusion. No direct damage, used to knock over, trip, turnaround, etc. Disorientation: Mental Illusions Double-Talk: Mind Control The Impossible Puzzle: Ego Attack ("Stop it! You're making my head hurt!") All of these could be done with Incantations and Target must be able to hear and understand Kvizkid. Also: Obfuscation: Invisibility, only vs. minds (Not cameras, etc.) The Solution: +4 Overall Levels, RSR: INT Cheat: 5d6 Luck Themed gadgets are your best damaging offense. In fact, when you said Lightning Round above I thought "That's your gun right there!" Alternatively, a fire attack (The Third Degree), KA (Sudden Death), or Darkness (The Isolation Chamber). Cantriped
I'm not gonna spend a lot of time researching the values for theses examples, instead including an X variable in their place. Also these examples are based upon Champions Complete. The Pop Quiz Gun: Multipower (X-Reserve Points); All Slots; Focus (OAF; -1), Incantations (-1/4), Only Works Against Human Class Minds (-1/4). Real Cost = (Active Points)/2.5 1) Entangle Xd6, Dismissable (+5 AP), AVAD (INT instead of STR; +X), ACV (OMCV vs. DCV; +0), Cannot Be Damaged By Attacks (INT Only to Break Free; +X) (X Active Points); Focus (OAF; -1), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures (-1/4), Charges (X Charges; -X), Time Limit (5 Minutes; -X), Only Works Against Human Class Minds (-1/4). 2) Mental Blast Xd6 (X Active Points); AVAD (INT instead of Mental Defense; -X), ACV (OMCV vs. DCV; -X), Focus (OAF; -1), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures (-1/4), Charges (X Charges; -X), Only Works Against Human Class Minds (-1/4). 3) Telepathy or Mind Control Xd6, Constant (+1/2), Cumalative (Maximum Effect Times X; +X) (X Active Points); AVAD (INT instead of Mental Defense; -X), ACV (OMCV vs. DCV; -X), Focus (OAF; -1), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures (-1/4), Continuing Charges (X Charges Lasting 1 Minute; -X), Only Works Against Human Class Minds (-1/4), Language Barrier (-X), Only To Discern Answers To Questions or Force Target To Answer Questions Aloud (-X) 4) Drain (1/2 to INT, 1/2 to Any One Knowledge Skill One At A Time) Xd6; ACV (OMCV vs, DCV; +0), Constant (+1/2) (X Active Points); AVAD (INT instead of Power Defense; -X), Focus (OAF; -1), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures (-1/4), Charges (X Charges; -X), Only Works Against Human Class Minds (-1/4). The special effect of the Entangle and the Telepathy/Mind Control is that the victim is trapped inside a mental illusion of a class room, and must solve a quiz or puzzle of some kind in order to escape the ego-space created by the Pop-Quiz Gun. The special effects of the Mental Blast and Drain are psychic feedback which makes thinking critically more difficult for the victim. Obviously the Effect of the Drain against INT is reduced by their INT before their INT is reduced by the effect, as would be the case with Drain Power Defense. If the opponent proves to be too smart for the Pop-Quiz Gun, Hit em with the Dunce-Bat a few times first. The Dunce-Bat: All Slots; Focus (OAF;-1), Gestures (-1/4) Hand-To-Hand Attack +2d6, Reduced END (0 END; +1/2) (15 Active Points) PLUS Drain INT 2d6, Reduced END (0 END; +1/2), AVAD (Mental Defense; +0), Delayed Return Rate (5 points per Hour or 1 point every 12 minutes; +X) (X Active Points). steriaca
If your looking for a decent Martial Arts for him, you cannot go wrong with Baritsu, on page 22 and 23 of the Hero System Martial Arts 6ed book. Why? Well, if it is good enough for Sherlock Homes...
steriaca
Another thing to check out is the Genus Tricks thread in the Hero System Discussion area. My personal favorite is "Smartest Man In The Room" (Change Environment, -INT, only for intelligence based skills, not perception rolls). The Arc
According to Wikipedia, the Riddler had Apophenia which is the ability to see a pattern in random or meaningless data.
