The Dread masters of Demon

Well, playing Hero again has gotten into the mood to convert some backstory into 6th ed ...I've been working on Demon in my head. As noted in "Back in harness" I am playing an atlantean Sorcerer. Who has mastered the "Unspeakable Spell" the key to modifying reality.

This is a concept I have of Sorcery, it's a specific piece of secret knowlage, that grants mystical power.

This will likely be sporatic, and disorganized, as I am taking concepts out of my head, and converting them into 6th edition as I go.

This is my first concept, a "Inner Circle" Morbane. These are the backbone of the org. one step below the Circle of the Dread Masters.

This is a "generic" Adept (master) of the Cold Shadow. (see various published items for more)

The basic organization, is a loose association with an "executive council". The Dread masters don't have formal authority, people obey because they know whats good for them.

Dread Masters (Circle of)  sets policy, greenlights major projects, and directly supervises pet projects.

Inner Circle; Adepts, the backbone of the agency. Knows truths about Demon. Have individual autonomy. Direct and moniter the outer circles. Choose persons for advancement.

Morbanes. Supervisors and officers. Posses dark knowlage, wield true power.

Assosiates: Cultists, occultists, and sundry. Not "true" members.

Soldiers: Full time employees, mostly professional mercinaries or former cultists.

Thugs, casual labor.

Thieves, contracted labor.

Soldiers are uniformed, trained and fully equipped.

The Hellfire Legion, is an Elite formation that reports directly to the Circle of Dread Masters. Have magical enhancements.

There may be other "legions" with special equipment as well.

There are 3 main branches in Demon.

1) The Thunese, Alien Tech, trafficking with the Kings of Edom, users of Lemurian artifacts.

2) Sorcerous, Talented members are always welcome, wide ranging skills and abilitys. Perhaps too independent minded....

3) Pact Magicians, persons who have made a deal with terrible things to gain mystic might. The most crazed members, often used as "cat's paws" by the inner circle. "Pacters" in general are viewed as ridiculous losers by the other Morbanes (but not in their hearing)

Demon was "founded" by Thule society operatives in the 30's to undermine the US. It has been infiltrated by Lemurian Sorcerers, and at least one Dread master has no magical might at all. S/he is a powerfull psionic.

Demon primarily uses Thunnese Sorcery, Lemurian artifacts, and dark rituals involving the Kings of Edom.

The Dread Masters:

The Green Lama, a Viril-ya. Infiltrator of the original Thule society. Have a secret agenda that includes clearing the surface of all those pesky humans...

The Red Lama, a Viril-ya   they tend to vote as a block, when they don't it is some sort of clever plan...

Nigel Crowe, "Master Crow" a fearsomely gifted psionic.

Jianni Silvestri, strong "mafia" connections, mostly operates on east coast. Pacter Magician, Keeps his Pact a secret.

"Nathon Smith" Thunnese Sorcerer (Stary Knowledge)

"Johnathan Chambers" Varton the artificer, a Lemurian exile.

"Lillian Chalmers" a Lemurian Sorceress, if she recognizes Varton, she has been keeping quiet....

Michael Brown, Mathematics Professor at Millenium City Universty, Thunnese Sorcerer( infinite Doors), "self taught" well respected.

"Caster and Pollux" identical twins, Bill, and Patrick O'Mally. Spirit link, Masters of disguise, came up through the ranks, Well connected. Maintains a single "identity" unknown how many know this....

"The Count" Count Ciminescu (Romanian) Head of Demon Europe, Politician, lots of interaction skills, bisexual, seductive. Sorcerer (unknown secret)Like to play at being a Vampire.

Mary Read, Magician (unknown if has a Pact) Europe NW

Thunnese Sorcerer, unknown

Thunnese Sorcer, unknown

Sorcerers listed as "Thunnese" are more or less, loyal to Demon.

the last two are new replacements, raised up from the inner circle, to replace Dread Masters lost due to super powered interference.

A few Nests are run by Demonologists (Pact Magicians), and at least one is run by a Necromancer (Crypt King).

The Green Lama, appears to be Tibetian,

Magic vs Sorcery...whats up with that?

Magicians use the "laws" of magic, to utilize the ambient energy of the universe(s). Basicly Physics by alternate laws.

Sorcerers utilize secret knowlage to "hack" reality. More focused than mages, but usually more powerful because of it. Mages often try to disparage Sorcerers as "one trick ponies". But they often regret doing so.

Magicians are normally trained, either formally or in an aprentence  setting. Sorcery is more a case of mystical inspiration. Many sorcerers are "self taught".

The Arch mage of Earth is usually also the Sorcerer Supreme. But not always... (Example: Steven Strange is a Sorcerer: Vishanti, and Arch mage)(IMHO)

In my universe Dr. Strange is a Sorcerer: Golden Flame, and a Archmage.

The two "Sorcerous schools" that I've stated out so far are the "Unspeakable Spell" literally the key to reality, this secret allows direct change of matter and spirit. Only one known Adept, Silent, an Atlantean , it is possible Skarn is an Adept, who has been taken over by the spell...

The main "good guy" orgs are, The Order of the Golden Flame. Sorcery: The Golden Flame (purity, banishment, illumination) Concerned with protecting the Universe/Earth from the Kings of Edom, other worse things( Eclipse), and Dimensional invaders. One of the few Orders who continued during the long period of low magical energy. It was their near failure to save the Universe from destruction, that started the current age of super heroes.

Trigismus Council, mainly a self policing guild for magical folks, most Magicians are connected, and many magical beings as well. (see many published sources)

Standard Morbanes use a strange Archano-tech based on Hyperborean practices. (That were heavily influenced by the Elder Worm) Morbanes are also in contact with the Ssessti, an alien race of "lizard men" who have influenced the organization a great deal.

What connections (if any) between the Ssessti, and Lemuria is not known.

Thunnian Morbanes are Edomite cultist in the main. Sorcerous Morbanes tend to view Demon as "useful". And treat it as a valuable resource. They normally run "cults of personality".

At least some are Lemurian, or are connected with Lemuria.

Magician Morbanes are a real hodge-podge, many are secretly "pacters". These provide most of the "satanic cultists" cannon fodder, and imagery. At least one is a Necromancer ( Crypt King)

The Crypt king operates out of Colma, CA. The Monster, is also a Sorcerer who operates out of Colma, but he(?) avoids working "at home".

relationships with other agencies:

The Circle of the Red Moon, it is unknown to what extent they are connected to Demon. It is widely believed that the Circle has at least one representative on the Dread Council.

The Cult of the Red Moon. Claims to be fully independent of the Circle. And from Demon. But at least a few Morbanes started their careers in the cult. Alienists through and through, they specialize in Ritual magic. Know to recruit suicide bombers, they are a "suspected terrorist organization", with no known affiliations. Most active on the west coast. The cult was founded in Berkely, CA. Currently most active in Los Angeles.

A "Red Moon" Sorcerer would have powers over Perception, Mental Transformation, and Madness. :)

Raven, was formerly affiliated with Demon. When Viper moved to take Raven apart, Demon was noticeably "neutral". It's believed that they provided Viper with intel in return for their own safety.

The Cult of the Red Banner: The Red Banner considers Demon to be a bunch of pathetic amatures. This seems to be a major reason why Demon has almost no presence in the Asia region. Viper Japan, and Viper Korean are known affiates of the Red Banner, Viper Singapore loudly claims to be independent, but no one believes them.

The Shadow Clan: Almost unknown outside of India, and the surrounding countries, they dominate the underworld, both mystical, and temporal. Many believe they have something to do with the founding of the Cult of the Red Banner. Demon has a healthy respect for their mystics. They are users of Lemurian artifacts, but have no known connection.

The Temple of the Golden Demon: Former allies of both the Shadow Clan, and the Red Banner. They had seriously infiltrated the Triad gangs in hong kong (and beyond). They were destroyed in the 80's They produced numerous top end mystical martial artists. Some survivers may have joined Demon.
