Did Falcon get his own film yet?  War Machine?  Or have only white male Marvel superheroes been given their own movies?

Suicide Squad had a black dude in the lead role. Luke Cage got his own Netflix series.  Idris Elba has been the lead in a bunch of movies.  Does the Rock count as black?  They had a black Human Torch in that crappy FF movie.

Artificially limiting it to Marvel movies is disingenuous, particularly since they haven't given that many characters their own stand alone films.

And since they're releasing Black Panther next, I'm not sure where this whole conversation is supposed to be headed or what it is supposed to mean?

Confucius say, "To find out where this conversation is headed, look to where it has been."

Or something.

And movie Falcon is definitely a sidekick. More so than movie Bucky ever was.

Actually, with Marvel, you're more likely to get a redhead than a Brunette, especially if they're a mutant. Fact.

But yeah, the whitewashing is so ingrained in classic superheroes that it was almost inevitable the first wave was going to be that way (and also be male dominated).

Black Panther should address that fairly well. I particularly like that it seems to be all in Wakanda.

Also... are we forgetting Nick Fury here? Does anyone even remember when he wasn't  Sam Jackson? :)

Again, I didn't say it was just a movie with a famous black lead; its a quasi-blockbuster with an (almost) entirely all-black cast (usually only reserved for small serious dramas fighting oppression and for civil rights or Tyler Perry-esque comedies) that just broke a record for early ticket sales. IMO this is somewhat of a big deal.  YMMV.

How is it whitewashing that characters who were originally created as white would remain so in a movie?
