Hyper-Man
I'd have to check to be sure but I think vehicle Size refers more to interior space than exterior.
HeroGM
for some reason I think its outer shape minus wingspan, can't find it in anything though
ghost-angel
The size of the vehicle is very well defined in 6E2... It's the same as a person, with the larger side being length, not height. 6E2 provides a handy table of LxWxH. The interior is half the vehicle size you bought it to. That said, you can alter the exact dimensions however you want as long as the overall volume remains the same.
Scott Baker
Ultimate Vehicle also states that you can build to the most prominent dimension (usually length) or weight. And the example aircraft follow that rule. They are built to the length of the aircraft (or an approximation thereof) and don't try to match the wingspan. ghost-angel
Wingspan can also be described as a Complication, since it will usually come up in the game when you try and find a space to park.
WistfulD
That looks like the final word. Build to the mass, or prominent dimension. That might be width in your campaign, especially if the dominant effect of the vehicle's size is (say) hanger space. Things like space on an aircraft carrier deck are measured by size category, not specifically wingspan.
