Concept to full art from Storn Year 12

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Twelveth year that I have done this.
If you come up with an idea that I like and that Storn likes I pay for it and Storn does it.
Simple no ?

I may have also slowed down my acquisition of new artwork but this is an exception. It is an annual thing.
well there are rules as long time posters will be aware of.

Also even if the idea does not win, someone else may commission it as has happened before or Storn and I may decide to do another one from the thread which lead to Haven Walkur's Saggitarius and Bob Greenwade's Speedbump being done. Or someone else commissioning it from Storn as has happened previously.

I will commission a new piece of art from Storn for probably end July and we have until then to come up with ideas for him to do. I have revised the rules from the past eleven years. Some are the same but they are worth repeating.

First off people are allowed to contribute ideas BUT there is a snag.
As I am the one paying for it, I have to approve it. And Storn has to be willing to draw it. Part of the idea is to challenge the artist with something he hasn't done before or not done in a while.

So some ground restrictions and rules.

(1) The picture has to be for Champions. It is what I play and it is in this forum that the thread is posted.

(2) Non American and non British patriots are welcome. But note, the 2008 and 2010 winners were patriots (Africa and South America). So it will be harder to convince me of a patriot as I have had a British Bulldog and a Britannia done. I also have over 50 American patriotic or quasi patriotic heroes from pics or that Etherio put up previously. And try naming them. Sheesh !
If you have a good idea for a non-British or non-American patriot, please post the idea.
It has proven to be easier to get a non-US patriot done as this has a great deal of novelty value for not just Storn and I but everyone else as well.

(3) Storn does not like portraying standard gun users. If the idea sound convincing I may go for it but bear in mind Storn might not be convinced that he should do it.

(4) Beast motifs. This is a maybe. I had the Lioness pic done six years ago. And have an awful load of these already. Also had a the Brick figure, a Hippo done last year and two year's ago the winner was a Zebra Man. Storn also has expressed an exasperation with Catgirls being requested.

(5) No blatent Cheesecake. And anyone asking what this is risks a violent tribillating. This is a family forum area. Women ideas are fine. Villainous women in bikinis are not. And no hero fights crime in a bikini. Not even Batman.

(6) No kid heroes/villains. I like the over 18 crowd and proper heroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman etc. Anyone even suggesting something akin to the Power R*****S will be summarily subjected to a dousing with crude oil. And this year again we set you alight as well. And then dance around you invoking Mightybec.

(7) It must be something that I would want to use and something that would interest me. If not then no go ahead.

(8) Storn has certain restrictions of his own both because he will be putting the final product on his web site and has his own likes and dislikes. With this we will heed the former and indulge the latter. No Intellectual Property for example so no pics of Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Captain America.

(9) Idea can be of an agent, a normal superhero/villain or a boss/mastermind. Note in recent history Storn did the criminal Mastermind Dr Dark for me; an Agent type with a jetpack and the board selected Beautiful Female Martial Artist all for me.

(10) If you want Superman, Batman or Green Lantern analogues there has to be some thing about them visually to make Storn and I want to portray it and pay for it. Remember if you don't post an idea, then it can't get done. Enforcer84 indpendently did get a Batman analogue done from Storn three different times.

(11) Anyone who has had their idea done previously can apply again. There is no prejudice or bias either for or against you.

(12) Wierd ideas. I have commissioned a trenchcoat wearing Purple Worm, Dr Snail who has a metal shell with a howitzer on the top, the gangster Pterra Don (part Dinosaur part gangster) and Bulette Train (part Japanese Bullet train and part Bulette). Try and outwierd me. I dare you.

I'll post my own ideas as well plus ones from previous years that I am still willing to consider and may yet independently commission. So post your idea, if I like it then we'll proceed.
You may just have a name and we can bash ideas around about it until we get a full picture.

Of course if you don't like this approach you could always ask Storn yourself.

If you posted ideas in the Create a Hero/Villain thread, try putting that in here as well. I certainly will be.

Funny you say that. I have now seen coverage of the half time show. I have commissioned a shark from Celtic Bolt based on Last Man Standing's Jawsome.

Also look on Deviantart for LMS Never Send a Seal to Kill a Shark.

From the Create Hero and Villain threads I am thinking of

Eager Beaver a giant man sized beaver  from Tartarus's Ten.

Diabolicus from the Supervillain Army a giant (10 foot) demon red in colour, broad of shoulder and with horns. Something akin to Tim Curry in Legend.

Visgoth. A figure in red armour.

1-800-Zombies. The duplicator who becomes a zombie horde.

The Colonel from The Rogues Battalion

Quicksilver Girl, a stretching character who is actually a sapient colony of nanomachines.  In her "at rest" form she's looks more or less like like a rule-63 Silver Surfer, but in action she stretches and forms weapons out of her arms like a cross between Reed Richards and the T-1000.  Originally made by the noble villainess "Lady Nemesis" to spy on, harass and fight the superhero team Nemesis blames for the killing of her father, she got so interested in her targets that she wound up joining them.

OK, a (more) serious one:

I've been toying with the concept of a villain that spontaneously germinates from one of those superheroic vaults/trophy rooms where they typically keep equipment and artifacts liberated from their past opponents (occasionally this concept works its way into fantasy rpgs).  The lingering, concentrated evil psychic imprints combined with alien tech gradually create a gestalt entity that breaks out and seeks revenge.  I picture a crystal skull atop a mechanical torso, cybernetic arms, adorned with a cloak, medallion, ancient staff, perhaps a crown of Krim?  Or any combination that looks good, really.

Tentative names: Amalgaman or the Residuum.

A visual I've had in mind for years, Master Manticora. He looks like a tall, thin, very refined businessman, very serious, and very elegant. He has two long tentacles coming over his shoulders from his back (ala Doc Ock) but they end in dragon or snake heads. A thinner tentacle winds down near his feet, his "tail."

Schwarze Sonne:  A nazi superhero in the "Superman" mold with a black and red cape and tights outfit, and the the image of the "black sun" on his chest...until you remove the disguise amulet from his neck and he's revealed to be a draugr in tights, a walking corpse with the power to drain life and superpowers from others.  His actual vulnerability is the cursed ring he wears, stolen from a funeral mound.  If removed, he becomes inanimate.  It will animate any corpse it is touched to, and if worn by a living person it will grant them powers but slowly kill them.

Yes.  I combined Superman, The Parasite and the Witch King.

I've had an image in my mind for a long time, of an elemental air-being, e.g. the mythic gods Aeolus or Njord or something similar, materializing out of the flow of the air. That is, his hair, clothing, limbs, taking shape from streams of wind. I don't have the talent to draw something like that.

While not exactly what you have in mind, this is very much the image I had of this character, an abomination of Mad Science made into the form of a mythic being.. and he does not like it one bit.

Background/History:

“So, you are an expert meteorologist? You have concluded that the human race cannot exert so much influence as to affect the weather? Well, I think it is time we tested that hypothesis. On YOU!”

I was foolish, confrontational, and overconfident in my narrow world view, strapped into some sort of machine, hearing an electronic voice taunt me. And then lightning, and pain. I don't know which supervillain cursed me with this power, this cyclonic transfiguration of mine. In all these years of searching, I am no closer to their identity, or to a cure. I don't even look a day older. If the point was to teach me the error of my ways, I've learned. If it was to humble me, I am humbled. I have grown as a person because of this tribulation.

But I have learned so much more. It isn't all about me. There are people who need protecting from the changes we face. The power of the superstorm rests in me to use as I will. I will use it for good.

Appearance

Matthew 'The Weather Detective' Mars looks like a cross between a film noire gumshoe and a television anchor man. His grey London Fog trenchcoat swirls in a perpetual zephyr that tousles his hair with just a touch too much attention. The scarf at his neck seems to know where to turn for the best camera angle. There's no irony there; this is pretty much what he does for a living: weatherman by day, private investigator by night.

But when the wind changes, when the mood strikes, Matt is not the weatherman. He's the WEATHER MAN, a being of gale and tornado, a cyclone in the shape of a man, but more than a man.

And when crossed, beware the fury of the anthropogenic climate as it changes and evolves into the very substance and might of the atmosphere unleashed, in power no less than a typhoon, in reach no less than a hurricane, in resolve a maelstrom beyond ordinary human dimension.

Tactics

Matt has little choice of tactics; in combat he is unlikely to be able to retain his human proportions and form, and is not built to effectively dodge or block, except for combat luck. He's also not so extraordinarily tough at first that he can do much more than absorb damage, rolling with punches and taking recoveries while becoming bigger with time. He wasn't born a hero, and doesn't have the self-discipline for martial arts or to hold back once innocents are harmed.

If he isn't very careful about getting stirred up, he may become the most powerful unconscious person in a fight. Unconsciousness causes Cyclone to dissipate into a zephyr floating off to the clouds, until he regains consciousness.

If in a group being overpowered, Cyclone will grab his allies and leap for altitude riding a tornado funnel to escape. He will also resort to this strategy to gain the advantage of altitude by surprise, perhaps carrying something large with him. Once he's grown to huge size, his ability to sweep up an area in his open hands shifts the odds in his favor.

Hippie chick Christine Maxwell understands and manipulates the energies inherent in crystals.  After a supervillain battle leveled her shop, she realized that more, larger crystals would give her the ability to help more people.  As Crystal, she appears to be a "power armor" clad heroine, but her armor is transparent(translucent?) quartz studded with crystals, showing her mundane (artist's choice) clothing underneath.

A few one liners:

Porcupine is a human archer wearing spiked armor resembling his namesake.

Kudzu is a sentient plant, a mass of vine tendrils with a small central knot.

Runestone is a magic user with runes tattooed on his skin, so that touching them casts his magic.

Briquette is a female brick, sheathed in flames surrounding charcoal-looking armor.

Dragon is a normal martial artist with scale armor, katar claws, a whip tail and jetpack and wings to fly.

Plutonium Blonde is a radioactive female metallic brick with an obviously fake wig.

Matchstick is a martial artist who uses flaming Arnis batons.

Ol' Sparky is a convicted murderer wearing a scorched orange jumpsuit from when gained electrical powers from his trip to the chair.

Pachyderm looks like an anthropomorphised elephant mammoth, but that fur covers a high-tech battlesuit.

Sick Puppy is a mentalist in a gimp mask and suit who makes you beat him to feed his Absorption.

Steam Punk is a steampunk battlesuit with piston fists and steam vent blasts and jump jets.

Balloonatic is an evil clown who creates balloon animals, even out of himself or other people.

Arcanamatron is an ancient animated metal golem.

I know gun users aren't favored, but two that might be interesting:

Volt 45 uses comically oversized pistols that fire bolts of electricity and eject spent AA batteries as 'shells'.

War Glock wears a trenchcoat instead of the robes of old, casting magic with one hand, often on the gun in his other.

A two-for-one:

Flint and Steel are brothers and mutants.  Flint turns stonelike and grows to twelve feet.  Steel has metallic density increase and is stronger, so their unusual "Fastball special" is Steel throwing Flint.

And finally I also want to nominate someone else's 1-800-ZOMBIE from the theme team threads.  As a zombie who creates 'zombie copies' of people he touches.

Chris.

"Halloween getting you down with all those wretched kids beaming happily saying 'Trick or Treat !' ? Sick and tired of the adults having fun instead of being frightened half to death and more ? Are you dismayed that the witches orgies on this most profane of the old pagan calander's are now just a damp squib ?
"worry no more for we have the solution for you ! Dial 1-800-ZOMBIES and a zombie horde is yours for the asking ! Available as a single Zombie or a horde of flesh eating, unkillable walking monstrosities ! Put the bite back into Halloween and make the children and adults remember what it is like to beg for their miserable existence at the hands of an implacable foe ! We regret we cannot take American Express or Diners Club cards. Also available on 1-800-DDGHOUL"

A duplicator who can turn himself into a zombie is a rare and awful being. He does not get on well with most of his colleagues. The Dinosaur is too cute, the Cat has shown mercy, Molock sold out and the ghost does not eat people.

1-800-ZOMBIES is a duplicator who creates a a zombie horde from himself and is one of mine. Nice to know it is remembered.

Bald Eagle. A bird shape villain with the distinctive head of the Bald Eagle.

It's remembered because it's stolen for my game.  Zombie duplicator is just too cool not to use.  And might present an interesting art challenge - especially my tweak where normal and zombie can be side by side.

WHAT ??????!!!!!!!

You DARE take my idea and adapt it ?????!!!!!!

I shall turn up on your doorstep and give you a HARD stare.

But I might be in disguise. So any insect, bird or animal, or maybe at a stretch a human, who gives you a hard stare in the next few days, that might be me.
