Age of The Destroyer

In the true vein of 5th Weeks and Age of Apocalypse, the people I play with are talking about doing a side game where Dr. Destroyer has merged with Mechanon and has destroyed 80% of the world's populatin. The GMs only question is how to get us to that point. Do the whole AoA and drop it in as an alternative timeline or do it as a possible future.

Any suggestions?

You could just set it in any part of the world that ignores the existence of 80% of the planet.. and then set the news feeds to their news rooms to lie?

Refuse entry to the national airspace to outside planes, shut the ports on some pretext, block phone calls.

Block the internet from outside the country, and you're there.

Could be a future they are set in. At the end of it all they are returned to the normal timeline.

The big benefit of this outside of being able to undo the damage is that the mission continues even after the end of the campaign. The PCs now know Dr. D is alive. They know he will merge with Mechanon and that once that happens they will stand no chance. But how will they prevent it. It rewards the PCs for trying to learn how things came about in detail, too. It even lets them deal with tje difficult question of who to involve. Who knows what could come about when you tamper with time: ala the Age of Ultron alternate present storyline.

Several years after successfully playing through Day of the Destroyer, our GM started a new campaign with new characters, set in an alternate timeline in which our previous PCs failed to stop Destroyer and his weapon killed most of the Earth's population.

Unfortunately, he was a terrible GM.  Based on his initial description, we all created characters who were superhumans struggling to survive in the blasted ruins of civilization.  The actual campaign jumped to 20 years in the future, when everything had somehow been rebuilt and it was virtually indistinguishable from a normal Champaions campaign, except there may have been a few less civilian bystanders.  Most of us redesigned our characters or created new ones, but the game didn't last.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll pass them on to her. My fear is it'll turn into a days of future past situation. A good one shot story streached out to crazy.

From what Byrne has said Claremont did not want to do a sentinels story and Bryne said it was because he writes them too whimpy - so Chris did the current time and JB did the 2013 future.

A simple two-issue story into 32 years of crazy.
