The cosmic forces, the essential qualities that drive the Material World are locked in a war of sort. Creation/Entropy, Order/Chaos even Stasis and Change. This war is as impersonal as it is eternal, even the beings that embody it are so distant from humanity that their motivations can't be defined in simple human terms. But sometimes, across the ages, these conflicts do take a form that humans can directly comprehend when their warriors take human form. Sometimes as heroes, sometimes as villains even as both.

Hype is one such human avatar. He embodies energy, change, creation and vibrant existence. As an artist, street performer and acknowledged creative genius, Hype is a radical, an agent of change, a rebel by nature fighting the establishment because by definition he opposes it. Some seem him a a rebel and Robin Hood fighing a corrupt status quo, others as a disruptive threat out to forment chaos. He thinks of himself a force for good, positive change and 'waking' a population that's been lulled int complacent, dulled to sleep by mediocrity.

He's had his powers from birth and think he is a mutant. Which is true to an extent but the true root of his powers are far deeper, stemming from his tie to primal chaos. He is it avatar given human will and awareness. This grants him power over energy, movement and vitality. He can bolster any form of energy including abstract form such as kinetic, create vivid displays of light and sound, move practically any distant nearly instantaneously and overwhelm a target's sense with intense, chaotic overstimulation among other abilities.

Hype uses his power to fight corruption and stagnation as he seems them, fighting tyrants, oppressors and destroyers of all sort, both overt criminals and those that seem legitimate on the surface but corrupt at their core such a malicious businesses and dirty government officials. These latter actions have earned him allot of powerful enemies and bad press as he doesn't bother to explain his actions or offer proof. In truth, some of his targets haven't any done anything illegal but normal standards though their action or intent have been malicious and had malicious ends. The lesser of his public activities is as guerilla artist, staging vivid, extravagant performances, events and displays intent to inspire, elevate and 'wake' people. Some call it dazzling, amazing and beautiful. Others call it vandalism and property destruction.

Perhaps ironically, his opposite number is more widely consider a hero as he stands in defense of the status quo, stability and tradition: Null.

Null is a quiet, stalwart figure who acts with deliberation and forethought. He's respectful, soft spoken and dependable. His power aside from physical might seem perfect for countering Hype as their effect stasis and absorbing calming chaos and dampening energy. In many ways, Null is what most would expect from a hero and acts that way. But few notice the cold, blank emotionless void behind his eyes or spend enough time with the quiet loner to notice his almost completely logical even cold-blooded manner of his thought process or borderline obsession with order, routine and predictability in all things.

Death Bunny

Nominally a villain the appearance of this woman can cause despair in the hearts of gangs and can be a nuisance to a hero. She is thought to be half Japanese and half American while some have postulated that she is either a comic image brought to life by The Animator or a woman granted powers by Dr Nymax!. Neither have confirmed this but they have not denied it either. She is bulletproof in that bullets swerve around her. She tend to appear dramatically and put herself between two of the combatants which a few villains have taken advantage of in making getaways as the heroes have to deal with her.

Attempts to use mental powers on her have a tendency to fail (Very high ECV).

She has martial arts but no to a level that would trouble any true practitioner of the art.

This is Bonny Hibiki, aka Bunny Love. Mostly a media personality,  Bonny/Bunny is athletic, outgoing, a skilled acrobat and competent martial artist, and a genuine superhuman, possessing a most unusual power: Ai to teigi no ribon, or in English, the ribbon of love and  justice. Bunny produces her ribbon when she needs it, and it can do anything a normal ribbon could, and more: it responds to her desires, moving as she wills, can be as long as needed ( the current record is several kilometres) and no known force can harm it.

To the surprise of no one, Bunny is known to have a strong sense of justice, and a large number of friends with benefits, both male and female,

Magor: the Mystic

Amy Keaton was so lucky to find the odd leather belt (she preferred the term Girdle) with its huge affixed gem and odd larger work inscription it was the perfect thing to complete her outfit for the upcoming Lexington "Fantasy Trip" cosplay and LARP convention. The first one held outside of campus and one of the largest in the state or she hoped. Lining up the venue, the guest speakers, all of that had been a huge job, but it was a labor of love. She didn't think of herself as a fanatic, but she loved cosplay and role playing games of all sorts. In fact, her costume for the upcoming event was Magor the mystic, wandering sorceress and heroic mage, one of her favorite and longest lasting characters. She's nursed Major though several levels and a couple of game systems. She was everything Amy wanted to be: strong, confident and powerful.

The gemstone seemed to call to Amy, its shiny luster captivated her imagination as did the strange runes and symbols etched in its fitting and belt. The consignment store was selling it for a song. It had been in stock for so long no one could remember who brought it in. It made an excellent addition to her costume, adding a touch of class to Magor the Mystic that would surely make her the hit of the cosplay competition.

The convention was hectic but fun. Amy had her hands full keeping everything on track but was loving every minute of it. Until HE showed up. A pasty faced, black haired emo kid from Hell who called himself "Lord Umbra" that burst in with a group of thugs, ranting and raving about dark this and infernal that, a real loon.

Worse? He'd jack her style and was wearing a gem just like her's!

Set in a chest piece adorned with all sort of pseudo demonic crud but otherwise the same. That was the final straw. Angry enough to finally take the offensive, Amy stomped up to the so called Lord Umbra in the middle of his seemingly never ending rant and gave him a solid whack with the staff she'd carved from an old broom handle.

At that point things got weird.

There was a flash that knocked Amy on her butt and sent Lord Umbra flying across the room towards the exit. But he stopped... in mid air and hovered there, laughing like a refugee from a kid's show. But it made a much better impression now. And the thugs he'd brought with him.... changed, spread wings and sprouting spiked tails and claws. They weren't just great costumes. These things were real monsters....demons! The gem he was worse giving off a pale baleful green light now.

Lord Umbra raised a hand, spouted some mumbo-jumbo and a bolt of black fire raced at Amy. She...might have peed a little but lifted the imprmpu staff out reflex and....block the bolt, glowing runes imposed themselves and deflected it. Amazing and surging with power and a confidence that she'd never known, Amy got to her feet. Her gem was glowing like Umbra's but in a bright, cerulean light instead of sickly emerald. Mind racing with every fantasy trope and spell she'd ever read, Amy tried to shape the power that was racing through her (some Jedi stuff helped too).

And it worked, after a brief exchange of hasty, shaky effect Lord Umbra, now sporting feathers and a half-formed beak (Morphus Poultronius, it was an improvisation, but it worked) was forced to flee, promising dire revenge in a squeaky broken voice intermixed with clucks.

Amy's friend, Peter hurried her out of the convention while everyone else was still shell shocked. He was going on about this being her origin or something and stuff about power and responsibility. Pete was a nice guy, but really into comics (cute but kind of nerd) but he did have a point. Her life definitely changed, and it was likely permanent. She'd need some help and he was willing to offer it (and he was kinda cute...). What were these gems and where there more out there? Would the self-styled villain Lord Umbra be come back as he'd promised? She couldn't like the nut case run wild and she seemed to be equipped to stop him.

Besides, this was so awesome, maybe she'd get the chance to really be a hero instead of just pretend. It was like fate had heard her and stepped in to offer her the chance to live a dream. Maybe Peter's origin thing was on track. But the costume changes he suggested where out, she didn't care how popular thongs were with super-heroines.

The Wayfarer

Hector Hawkins, a sergeant in Washington's army during the American Revolution, found himself pulled off of one battlefield and onto another by a mysterious individual who claimed to need his services in a conflict "that could decide the very fate of the universe."  Whether this individual came from another time, another world or another dimension was never revealed to Hawkins.  He did know that he could never go back to his old life after doing all that he'd done and seeing all that he'd seen.  So now he makes his way in our time and our world--and always in the back of his mind is the notion that the stranger may once again have need of his services.

The fighting and strategy skills he acquired during the Revolution and the Great Universal War are augmented by the devices he wears and carries.  On his left arm is a long range teleporter that can take him anywhere he needs to go.  The belts strapped to his chest, waist and thighs generate an energy screen that can withstand any attack, and any extreme in temperature, as well as provide him with a limited oxygen supply for "extraordinary circumstances" such as the vacuum of space.  The visor he wears extends his visual perception so he can not only see at extended distances and in total darkness, but also through solid objects.  Finally, his pistol is what is called a temporal paralysis device--it slows the flow of time around the target until it can no longer move.  The effect does wear off eventually, but it lasts long enough for Wayfarer to bind the target and remove its weapons.

The Highwayman

He is The Highwayman. Roaming the freeways, autobahn and freeways of the world robbing cars, buses and coaches as well as lorries of their goods. He has outwitted the police and other governmental agents across the globe with his snatch and grab robberies and then escaping from the law. Superheroes give him more of a problem but his gun causes weakness.rather than serious injury so most heroes will lay off killing force except the more psychotic ones. The gun will also neuter car engines and that is one of the reasons for his escapes. He has used a variety of vehicles and transport to carry out his shenanigans. Where he gets the money from to use these transports and weaponry is anyone's guess.
