Create A Hero Extra: Jet Justice And The Defenders Of Sol

steriaca

Recommended Posts

Since I rarely go on Create A Hero thread, I will start a new thread. The ideal is this... Jet Justice and Milinda Terra, once in the Champions dimension, decided to gather many heros together just in case they were needed to fight anyone planning on conquest upon the planet. Their are 8 members total, but since Jet Justice and Milinda Terra take two spots, that leaves 6 to develop. All 6 should be loosely based on comic strip heros (much like Jet being inspired by Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon). (Also, I just watched me some Defenders of the Earth, which got me in the mood). Humor strips are ok if their are some action in it.

.

Example strips:

Thimble Theater (for Popeye The Sailor),

Joe Palloka,

Dick Tracy,

Lil' Abnor (he does have super human strength),

Little Orphan Annie,

Red Ryder.

.

So get those grey cells working.

You really don't have to have much knowledge about Jet Justice, cause the only way is for what I revealed in Create A Villain thread and the Enimies of Jet Justice thread. Unless your psychic, that is. Simply take what you know of Pulp Space Opera Hero heros and run with it. As for his allies in this world, pick your favorite comic strip character, remove the serial numbers, give them some super-equipment if they don't have their own powers, and shake well.

OK, here's an idea for a member of the Defenders of Sol, one that's inspired by (to a certain extent) Popeye the Sailor --

Captain Trident:

Background: Project Trident was the latest attempt by a branch of the U.S. military -- the Navy this time -- to create a

prototype "super-soldier". The project involved two different approaches in order to create their subject -- genetic

alteration to provide him with strength sufficient to enable him to function normally even at great depths, and a high-

tech battlesuit which would not only provide him with protection against energy and physical attacks, but also enhanced

mobility in air, sea, and land. Due to the advantages that the battlesuit would provide to its wearer, the decision was

made to recruit their candidate from the ranks of the SEALs, as it was felt that one of them would be able to make the

best possible use of the suit. Following a rigorous selection process, the project heads ultimately chose Captain Patrick

Denton of SEAL Team 6 to be their candidate.

After an extensive training program in the use of the battlesuit and its capabilities, Captain Denton was subjected to the

next phase of the project -- the genetic alteration which would give him superhuman strength. Due to an unsuspected

quirk in Denton's genetic makeup, the alteration process was more successful than the project's heads had anticipated.

Apparently, if Denton was in a situation where life-threatening harm -- either to himself or another -- was a possibility,

he could somehow increase his strength temporarily; once the danger was past, his strength would return to its normal

level (in game terms, he normally has STR 40, but when subjected to great danger to himself or others, it can go up

to a maximum of STR 60).

Captain Denton, or Captain Trident as one of the project's scientists had dubbed him, experienced his baptism of fire

when a group of strange-looking -- and even more strangely-armed -- intruders stormed the base in an apparent

attempt to steal the project's technology (the attackers were some of Diabolon's men, who had been sent on their

mission by their master following his discovery of Project Trident). Captain Trident was more than up to the challenge,

successfully driving the intruders away and preventing the theft of the project's technology. He would not learn the

identity of the mastermind behind the attempted theft until a few days later, when a pair of individuals identifying

themselves as Jet Justice and Milinda Terra paid a visit to the base and informed him, Dr. Olivia Madison -- the head

of the scientific part of the project and Denton's romantic interest -- and Admiral Raymond Farragut, the military head

of the project, about Diabolon and the threat that he posed to the planet. They also told them of their plan to assemble

a group of people with special abilities and training to fight Diabolon or any being who posed a threat to the Earth and

its people, and asked the Admiral if the Navy would allow Captain Trident to become part of that group.

Having seen what lengths the alien pirate mastermind was prepared to go to to steal the project's technology -- and

what damage said technology could do in the hands of such a man -- Admiral Farragut was more than willing to let

Captain Denton join this group, but wanted to leave the actual decision up to him. For the Captain's part, he was

more than willing to join Justice and Terra in their proposed group (needless to say, the Admiral was more than happy

that that was the case, as it gave him and the Government a set of eyes inside the group to insure that they weren't

up to any shennanigans). Captain Trident thus became the first member of the Defenders of Sol.

Description: The battlesuit worn by Captain Trident enables him to not only travel through water at considerable

speed, but also to fly through the air as well. The wings which are part of the thruster pack provide improved

mobility in both air and water. As for land movement, the legs of the suit have artificial muscles which are capable

of allowing the wearer to run at high speed for an extended period of time. The suit's life-support system can keep

its wearer alive in both NBC (Nuclear/Biological/Chemical) environments and undersea for six hours; eight when

the rebreather system is engaged. The swim fins shown in the picture can retract into the boots when in airborne

or land mode.

The trident shown in the picture wasn't part of the original equipment; it was a gift from the people of Atlantis following

a successful defense of the undersea city by the Defenders against an attack by an as-yet unknown pirate group. The

trident can not only be used as a melee and thrusting weapon, it also has a built-in energy blaster weapon that can

either stun or kill, depending on Captain Trident's intent.

Well, the month's young yet...and I've got three more pics ready with a couple more yet to do. There's also one

of Diabolon in my folder, and there's the other villain in the Enemies of Jet Justice thread that needs a pic too.

From what there is of his description, it seems like he might look something like Vandal Savage.

OK, this is what I've come up with thus far pic-wise (aside from Captain Trident, who's pic has already been

posted here):

First up are Jet Justice and Milinda Terra:

post-10891-0-01701300-1435975811_thumb.jpgpost-10891-0-24148700-1435975832_thumb.jpgpost-10891-0-61804500-1435975874_thumb.jpg

I've added the pic of what Jet looks like in his full gear (the result of a PM correspondence with steriaca regarding the

inspiration for Jet and Milinda). As for the badge on Jet's uniform, there is a symbol of balanced scales (representing

the scales of Justice) on the center portion.

Next up is Lady Mystica and her Gurkha bodyguard/friend/manservant Alebahadur (inspired by Mandrake the

Magician and his assistant Lothar):

post-10891-0-89875900-1435976469_thumb.jpgpost-10891-0-25908600-1435976489_thumb.jpg

Possible powers: Lady Mystica would most likely possess actual magical powers, which could be cast using her

wand, or -- in extremis -- wandlessly. In order to disguise the fact that she possessed real magic, she would have to

pretend that it was (very well-executed) stage "magic" of the sort practiced by conventional magicians.

As for Alebahadur, he'd probably have certain Characteristics near or at the maximum possible for non-superhuman

characters, as well as some military skills (more than a few Gurkhas who leave Nepal for a time wind up in the famed

Gurkha regiments of the British army, even today). His languages would be Nepalese (native) and English (fluent w/

literacy; spoken with a British accent), and his skill with his kukri blade should be fairly high.

EDIT: Lady Mystica's real name is Morgana Blackthorne.

And here's the Scarlet Spectre (inspired by the Phantom):

post-10891-0-73821100-1435976871_thumb.jpg

I'd come up with the idea for her after reading the background on Sav'ge Magnus, and his "fund-raising" efforts

by kidnapping people and holding them for ransom. She could've been the daughter of a family that had run

afoul of one of Magnus' kidnappings -- one which went bad for some reason and resulted in the deaths of her

family. As with the Phantom, this event would have been enough to push her onto the path of vengeance against

all pirates as a costumed avenger. The red hair that she sports as part of her costume is actually a wig (think of

the Yvonne Craig version of Batgirl on the Batman TV series).

As for potential superpowers, she could somehow have some combination of Desolidification and Invisibiity powers.

Where her weapons skills are concerned, I'd probably consult the writeup of John Preston over at Surbrook's Stuff

(in particular, the Gun-Kata martial art described in it).

And here's the next in the lineup -- Nick Arroyo (inspired by Steve Canyon):

post-10891-0-78032000-1436075833_thumb.jpg

Nick is an ex-Air Force pilot whose last combat assignments were to provide close air support to coalition

ground forces during the conflict in Iraq; if the Defenders were to have a jet transport of some sort, he'd

be the one chosen to fly it (with Milinda as his co-pilot, assuming she has the right skills for the job).

If he were to be written up with some more-than-human abilities, they'd probably be faster reflexes and an

above-normal DEX.

Here's the latest addition to the lineup of (potential) Defenders of Sol -- Magistrate Phobos:

post-10891-0-46499300-1436252836_thumb.jpg

Phobos (not his real name; upon being granted membership in the law-enforcement corps, a Magistrate

either chooses or is given a name by which his -- or her -- fellow Magistrates and the general public call

him/her in everyday usage, much like the call signs used by fighter pilots) is from an alternate Earth, one

that has been cast into a post-apocalyptic age due to a global pandemic. The surviving military and pol-

ice forces were consolidated into a single corps by the world government, and were given the authority

to act as judge, jury, and executioner as needed. They were also provided with the most advanced tech-

nology of the time -- antigravity jet-cycles, body armor superior to that of 20th and 21st Century Earth,

and hand-held mass-driver weaponry using gravitic technology -- and sent out into the plague-ravaged

world to restore order to it.

Unfortunately, this world's malcontents have access to advanced technology themselves, and one such

group -- who were involved with illegal time-travel research -- was responsible for Magistrate Phobos'

arrival on Champions Earth. When their activities were discovered by government agents, Phobos led

a team of his fellow Magistrates in an assault against them. In the course of the fight, the experimental

time machine was activated, and its power source was building up to an overload state. At a critical

moment, gunfire struck the power source, causing an energy surge that boosted the time machine's

operation to a level beyond that of what its designers had intended. As a result, Phobos -- who was

closest to the machine -- was not only transported back in time, but across dimensions as well. When

he recovered from the trans-temporal displacement, he found himself on a world that was not only free

of the pandemic, but was also home to people possessed of extraordinary powers. Not knowing if it was

possible to return to his home dimension, Phobos decided to make the best of his situation, and used

his technology and training to battle the evildoers of Champions Earth. His activities soon brought him

to the attention of Jet Justice and the Defenders of Sol.

I figured that, since I'd added a pic of Lady Mystica's DNPC to her post, that it'd only be fair if I gave any

DNPCs of the other DoS candidates equal time. So without further ado, here are the first ones -- Dr.

Olivia Madison and Admiral Raymond Farragut -- from Captain Trident's entry:

post-10891-0-87851800-1436329035_thumb.jpgpost-10891-0-84814000-1436329058_thumb.jpg

Given his status as the miitary head of a top-secret government project, Admiral Farragut does his best

to downplay his importance; to this end, he wears civilian clothing when appearing in public or in secret

meetings. As for his general appearance, he bears a close resemblance to the late Richard Basehart

(Admiral Harriman Nelson from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea).

And here are the people involved with Magistrate Phobos -- Chief Magistrate Leonidas, Magistrate Artemis,

and Magistrate J.G. Kali:

post-10891-0-79076900-1436335743_thumb.jpgpost-10891-0-63660100-1436335777_thumb.jpgpost-10891-0-84052800-1436335802_thumb.jpg

Leonidas has been Phobos' mentor from the time that he was first inducted into the law-enforcement corps,

while Artemis had been Phobos' partner from the time that they became full Magistrates until the day of

his disappearance. Kali had been assigned to Phobos and Artemis for additional training prior to the time

machine incident.

Ever since Phobos' disappearance, the three of them have been involved with a project to locate and return

him to their own time, using the confiscated time machine.

Nick Arroyo's DNPC and sometimes partner -- Dallas McKenna:

post-10891-0-00147900-1436340947_thumb.jpg

Dallas is the owner and chief pilot of Pegasus Air Transport, a cargo- and passenger-transport service

that she put together with help from Nick following his stint in the Air Force. PAT's business covers the

North American continent, with clients in the U.S. and Canada. Whenever her schedule permits, she

and Nick spend time together.

While PAT is based in Wyoming, the company rents hangar space as needed, depending on the job

(cargo hauls or passenger transport).

Here's some junior DNPCs for Nick Arroyo -- Peter and Erica Falcone:

post-10891-0-42153600-1436766172_thumb.jpg

The teenage twins are the children of one of Nick's Air Force friends who was killed in a training accident;

with no surviving family of his own who could take care of the twins, he requested in his will that Nick adopt

them if he was able to. Ever since then, the twins have been part of Nick's life -- both as family members

and as part-time summer employees of his piloting business.

  • 2 weeks later...

So far, I am working on the stats of Jet Justice himself. One of the main things about him is that his sidearm, the Justice Blaster, is sort of a Swiss Army Knife of space patrol firearms.

Any suggestions on beam modes (the gun only shoots energy, never 'slugs', othoe that should not rule attacks against Physical Defense out outright)?

Disruptor beam (Energy RKA)

Pulsar Beam (Autofire EB w/Explosion)

Neural Inhibitor beam (NND, defense is force field or not having a nervous system)

Neutralizer beam (Suppress vs. electronic devices)

Torch beam (AP EB; used like a laser cutting torch)

What do you think of these names for the Justice Blaster's beam settings?
