MrAgdesh
Can desolidified characters talk and be heard in the 'physical' world'?
Hyper-Man
Yes. They are only 'Invisible' to the Touch Sense Group when they are Desolidified. They are perceivable by all the other senses. However it is obvious that they are using the Desolidification Power (unless it was built with IPE).
MrAgdesh
Which leads me on to a couple of other questions... If the Desolidification was built with IPE - let's say to the Sight & Hearing groups also, then; 1) If he speaks can he be heard in the normal world? 2) If he teleports whilst De-solid and the teleport is perceivable, does that trump the desolidification's IPE? What if he walks or runs? If the answer to 1 is 'no' then what would he need in order to speak? Images to hearing group only whilst desolid? Scott Baker
1. Invisible Power Effects only affects the perception of the power. It has no effect on the person using the power. For example, where you specify IPE to the Sight group, the character does not appear to be desolified--they look 'normal'. This doesn't make the character invisible to being seen. 2. There's no overlap. The use of the teleport power can be perceived whether or not anyone knows the character is desolidified.
massey
A character who is Desolidified is going to look different, unless he purchased Invisible Power Effects on it. Maybe he turns kind of hazy, so you can sort of see through him, like a ghost. Maybe his body shimmers. Maybe he turns kind of gaseous and looks like humanoid smoke. Whatever it is, you can tell that there's some sort of power at work. He can still talk. You can still hear him. You can still see him. Buying Invisible Power Effects just means he looks normal. You don't know that he's Desolid. At least, until he walks through a wall or you shoot him and your attack goes right through him. None of these things make him invisible or inaudible. MrAgdesh
Ah, thanks. re: point 1 that makes perfect sense, a de-solid character appears 'solid' I was originally building an Invisibility in there linked to Desolidification but then got sidetracked by IPE on Desolidification itself. It looks like a compound power is the way to go then.
Christopher
Keep in mind that being able to talk and making any form of attack that is percieved as him talking are two totally distinct things. Attacks are hindered by Desolid both ways. The form/special effects those attacks take a irrelevant. You can still make Interaction Skill checks*. I think even Presence attacks are possible*. But Anything that is marked "attack power" needs the surcharge or can't be used (unless noted otherwise by rules). *Of course, here Desolidifcation has some effects on the roll. It can be preceived as a sign of fear/weakness on the user. Or a sign of strenght (Desolid characters can be scary).
