Steven S. Long just outbid me on eBay

Recommended Posts

It means he's trying to corner the market.

I was thinking the same thing, but he got he book at $90, and the standard used rate at this point is $145. He'd have a lot of ground to cover at $145 a pop! But what bums me out is that he prevented one new person from actually getting a copy of the 6E rules!

I just got outbid on eBay by Steven S. Long for a copy of Hero System 6E1. What in the world does that mean?! Any guesses?

My guess is that it means someone out there is such a big fan of the work of Steven S. Long that they decided to use that name for themselves in certain online contexts, such as on e bay.

Lucius Alexander

Now if you see a Lucius Alexander and they have a palindromedary, that's probably me. But only probably.

I think it was a likely inference that Steve L. was the winner of the recent 6e1 auction on ebay.  The full usernames are NOT given on ebay bids but you can view their recent bidding history.  That and based on stuff Steve has posted on FB it does suggest that it could have been him.  But I doubt it.

There was a bit of a dispute about the bid (my mistake in the end), and after it was resolved the bookseller said, as an interesting aside, that the winner was Steven S. Long. He assumed it was the author, but we may never really know . . .

Buy the PDF

take it to a copy store

have it printed

spiral bind it

and it will be under 90$

and spiral binding will let it lay flat

This assumes the copy store will agree to make the copy. Many will refuse on the grounds of (unfounded fears of) copyright infringement. It is common for copy stores to refuse to help customers take advantage of their Fair Use rights.

An alternative is to buy the PDF and upload it to a print on demand service like Lulu. I paid around $11 and $9 respectively (beyond the cost of the PDFs) for the printed books you see below.

I constructed full wraparound cover art for both volumes using Adobe Illustrator. I used the cover art pages from the PDFs as a starting point, but had to do a bunch of reconstruction due to font substitution and page bleed issues and so forth. The spine elements I made myself.

I've never had a problem getting stuff copied and bound at office max or office despot
the print quality from DTRPG has been low for their pod services
at a copy store you can say this is crap and have it redone

That is something interesting to know.  I was wondering how I could share information from the books without having to rewrite everything personally or sending my electronic copies to them and hoping they are honest enough to acquire them legally at a later point.
