Drain EGO and resisting Mental Powers

bigdamnhero

Question

Just want to make sure I'm not missing something:

  • A character that normally has a 15 EGO is hit with a Drain that reduces his EGO to 5.
  • That character is then hit with a successful Mind Control attack, and commanded to do something the target wouldn't mind doing, so EGO+10 is required.
  • The attacker hits, and rolls an Effect Roll of 25. That result is compared to the target's Drained EGO of 5, for a result of EGO+20. The attack is successful.
  • The target's Breakout Roll starts at 10- (based on 5 EGO).
  • The Breakout Roll is further reduced by -2 because the result was 10 over the required level, for a required Breakout Roll of 8-

This is the way I've always done it, but it kinda feels like double-counting; the Breakout Roll is reduced once for the reduced EGO and again due to the higher Effect Level. Is this correct? Thanks,
