The Unofficial Populating The Atomic And Silver Age Of Champions Thread

Recommended Posts

I'll admit that the magical girl genre was invented in Japan in the 60s and the magical girl superhero was introduced in the 70s with Cutey Honey who more or less marked the transition point between the Japanese equivalents of Silver and Bronze age. I've just always thought that it would be interesting to be a Japanese superhero during the Occupation at a point when any Japanese superhuman would be interned.

One can say that the Magical Girl thing predates the 60's, as one of the earliest examples was created by Tesuka himself. Unforcently, the early examples did not fight crime or monsters, but instead used her 'instant adult' powers to taje care of her brother and sister after there parents died.

Er...no.  Marvelous Melmo was 1970, so past the importation of Bewitched that sparked the birth of the magical girl.

A lot of these feel like modern characters shoved back in time. They don't really feel like Atomic or Silver Age characters to me.

I disagree. Red Hammer is a perfect Silver Age USSR Communist. So much so that even when burned by his government, he is still loyal and loyally waiting for new orders from the Kremlin (and working for others...a loyal comrade needs to keep busy). And Gooz-gooz Ghagla is your Atomic Age giant alien like in Tales To Astonish.

As for the rest, well, we try...

I guess for the villains, it might depend on how the character is runned. Note that a villain is simply a pile of points. It is up to the game master to shape the pile of points into a character.

The GM also must make the PC or NPC villain as believable as possible look at all the movie serial villains created by republic pictures or WB in the 1940's and 50's

That is true.

Oh, and bump.
