A Thread for Random Musings

Old Man

Recommended Posts

Perceptual and emotional changes due to sleeplessness amaze me, having experienced fairly drastic emotions, from abject terror to uncontrolled laughter after the 30+ hour mark.

What really scares me is this new drug that supposedly keeps one up for a few days with NO side effects whatsoever, it's supposed to be "perfectly" healthy. I suppose we'll check the veterans out in 30 or so years and find out for sure. I just can't believe you could go without sleep for days on end and be "healthy" given that sleep is as much a mental thing as it is physical.

in the christmas spirit

The Carol of The Old Ones.

Look to the sky, way up on high

There in the night stars are now right.

Eons have passed: now then at last

Prison walls break, Old Ones awake!

They will return: mankind will learn

New kinds of fear when they are here.

They will reclaim all in their name;

Hopes turn to black when they come back.

Ignorant fools, mankind now rules

Where they ruled then: it's theirs again

Stars brightly burning, boiling and churning

Bode a returning season of doom

Scary scary scary scary solstice

Very very very scary solstice

Up from the sea, from underground

Down from the sky, they're all around

They will return: mankind will learn

New kinds of fear when they are here

Look to the sky, way up on high

There in the night stars are now right.

Eons have passed: now then at last

Prison walls break, Old Ones awake!

Madness will reign, terror and pain

Woes without end where they extend.

Ignorant fools, mankind now rules

Where they ruled then: it's theirs again

Stars brightly burning, boiling and churning

Bode a returning season of doom

Scary scary scary scary solstice

Very very very scary solstice

Up from the sea, from underground

Down from the sky, they're all around.

Fear

(Look to the sky, way up on high

There in the night stars now are right)

They will return.

- I find it interesting how certain posters speak here in forums for debate with extreme surety about the motivations and aspects of other human beings (such as politicians, for example). They posit as if human nature was an open book to them and a closed book to all others. However, those people often seem so surprised and defensive when their opinions are challenged. Isn't the act of 'constantly questioning', one of humanity's most basic tenets?

-I also find it curious that certain posters (such as those mentioned above, and others) often present and then defend ALL of their opinions with absolute certainty. What if they were asked the question, "So then, you are ALWAYS right?"

Don't you think they'd answer - "Of course not. Nobody is always right."

Simple odds probably makes even the smartest person wrong 50% of the time.

So I ask everyone - "What are you willing to admit that you might be wrong about?"

If someone bumps a dead thread, is it now an undead thread? Does it have all the powers of an undead thread? Does it then drain the life out of other threads if it touches them? Can you turn an undead thread with a holy smiley? If you have a large number of posts and you attempt to turn an undead thread with a holy smiley, will the thread disintegrate?

Are posts like experience points? Would someone with alot of posts be considered someone with alot of adventuring experience? How many posts does it take to reach a new level? Perhaps only certain options should be available to someone with less posts. As you reach a new level, you are allowed more options on the messageboards. Perhaps a 5th level member has more fonts or size options or smilies than a 0-level member.
