Aiding VPPs

jdounis

Question

Hello,

There is a point of confusion for me regarding adjusting VPPs, in 6E1 pg 140 says that if you Adjust a VPP you must adjust both the Pool and the Control Cost based on their Character Points Cost Ratio,

But the example of pg 2, 01-16-2017 ERRATA(Medic affecting only the Pool of a VPP) contradicts that without correcting or even referring to this rule.Is there something i am missing?

Thank you in advance :)

I don’t currently have access to all of my books and materials, which have been packed up as part of my home renovation project, so I reserve the right to edit or change this answer at a future time. ;)

Here’s the relevant text in question, just so everyone can follow along:

Suppose the Medic uses an Aid to boost Winter Dragon’s Pool (but not his Control Cost) to 60 points. The number of Active Points that Winter Dragon can put in any one Power doesn’t increase — he can still have, at most, 40 Active Points in a Power built with the VPP — because the Medic didn’t Aid the Control Cost. But Winter Dragon can now have up to 60 Real Points’ worth of powers in his VPP at once, whereas before being Aided he could only have 40 Real Points’ worth of Powers at any one time.

Suppose instead that the Medic Aided both Winter Dragon’s Pool and the Blast he builds with the Pool simultaneously. In that case the Blast could have as many as 60 Active Points, but all other Powers built with the Pool could still only have 40 Active Points.

There’s no contradiction or error here that I can see; the example illustrates the rules from the previous page while pointing out the difference between Multipowers and VPPs in this situation. Since a VPP’s Pool and Control Cost function somewhat “independently,” Aiding the Pool alone has the effect of allowing the character to maintain more slots at once than usual. Multipowers, with their closer “connection” between slot and reserve, don’t benefit that way.

If that doesn’t clarify things for you, please PM me and I will try again. Adjustment Powers in general are tricky things sometimes, and when Frameworks get involved it can get even trickier. ;)
