The Joker's mysterious origins were always a part of the "charm" of the character. Pigeonholing his identity serves no purpose to the character and is just a way for the current DC staff to point at themselves and say, "Look at ME!"

Mind you, the story premise touched upon in that article is clearly an Elseworlds type of event, so the mainstream Joker might remain the avatar of chaos that he always has been.

ANd I was so sure it was the class clown in my 4th grade class, he was a little psycho.

Haven't read the spoiler, but when Batman sat on the Monitor's chair and asked it the Joker's name, it gave him 3. This led to he and Flash finding the Button (the one suspiciously like the one from the Watchmen). So, revealing 1 name doesn't mean it is The Joker.

Jerome, from Gotham, though that seems to be more of a proto-Joker. I have not seen the post-resurrection storyline for him. Still, the actor did a great job portraying him. Throw some green air and white greasepaint on him and you have one of the best Joker's out there.

There is a line from a song that seems appropriate here.

Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters,
Nothing really matters to me.'

Giving the Joker a name and/or intricate backstory seems about as pointless to me as when they did the same with Wolverine. A little mystery is fine. Not everything needs a backstory/origin story.

Clint Eastwood did just fine in those spaghetti westerns as The Man with No Name. No reason to run out and give the Joker a name.

If it was on the CW it would turn out to be Bruce Wayne from the future.
