Follow-up to Constant Powers and LOS

iamlibertarian

Question

Thanks Steve for your answer to this question. One more for you?

Potions: If LOS needs to be maintained on constant powers with an attack roll, when the creator of a potion gives the potion to another character to use as a one-shot use, who must maintain LOS? The creator of the potion, or the character who quaff's the potion?

Example: Potion of Fire Spitting, Ranged Explosion, Continuing for a few phases/spittings, Trigger = Quaffing the Potion. If the creator is 'back home' and the one using the potion is in combat somewhere else, does the potion work?

Thanks again!
DC :)

There are two considerations regarding potions.

The first, especially if you want to play strictly by the rules as written, is how the potion is built in HERO System terms. If it's built with Usable By Others, for example, that would affect the situation, versus a potion such as you describe above. In the latter case it would technically be the character who bought/created the potion, not the person drinking it, who has to maintain LOS.

The second, and more important, is common and dramatic sense. We all have the same basic idea about how potions are supposed to work, I think. So provided it doesn't significantly impact game balance, ignore LOS technicalities and let them work how they "logically" ought to work. ;)
