I think we're pretty much in agreement BDH, and I do like the use of Deduction to cast divination, but I'll pull you up on one historical point.

 

While it's clear that astrology was in decline in Europe during the early Christian era and received a big boost from Muslim sources (both original and re-introduced classical works) around the turn of the first millenium, it definitely didn't die out. The Wikipedia article on the subject says it became "fragmented and unsophisticated", which I think is a fair description, and largely attributes that to the loss of Greek Astronomical knowledge (which in turn was the cornerstone of the Islamic studies).
