My group gained a new player last night. His group, who were playing a mid level Mutants and Masterminds game, broke up and we'll be transferring his character over to 5th ed. I want to make sure his translated pc functions well. 1.) the M&M Defense score has a side note called "Flatfooted" , the likelihood of being caught by surprise. Have I got that right? I've been translating it to a Hero Perception level bonus. Thanks in advance

Mega-Scale Overkill!!! At what point does Mega-Scale become ridicules? A Brick with STR of 50, leap of 10â€. The leaping is his only movement. Aside from normal walk/running speed of 6â€. So he wants to buy. Megascale 1km on up to 10†leap (2.5pts), -1 End X3 (2.5/2=1.25=1pts) So for 1 point and 3 END the character can now leap 10 km. Some how that just seams wrong to me. Am I overreacting? I mean he can only use it as minimum of 1km but still. What do you guys think??

I asked Steve Long a question about the Limitation Lockout. I have a new player coming tomorrow. He has created a new character, the character has lockout on his energy blast, abosportion and his flight. I agree with Steve the limitation doesn't work with the energy blast because energy blast is an instant power... How do I discribe this to the player. I cannot find anywhere in the 5th revised where it says Lockout cannot be used with an instant power. Does anyone know where in the book I can find support for my opinion outside of the old I am the GM? The player keeps emailing me "The book says I can."

I was wondering if anybody has already fleshed out the final days of the great war between Heaven and Hell that Therakiel has been preparing for. How will the war be fought? What exact role will Robert Caliburn have in it? How can the PCs also be major players without being overshadowed by Caliburn? And - how will the outcome affect the City Of Shadows? Yes, these are questions for the individual GM to decide, but I am a lazy person...;-) And by the way, some of you guys have AWESOME ideas, so why not taking them... if I don't have any of my own until now? Well, okay, here are some general thoughts: I think that the war would be fought more or less in se…

I am, of course... talking about the Marvel character Iron Fist! I borrowed my friend's copy of Marvel's "Essential Iron Fist". Really cool idea, that essential collection... it's all black and white (probably from the films), and collects the key storylines of the character. Iron Fist in particular is a great book to leaf through for several reasons: 1) it starts with his core origin, but relates it in flashbacks, and goes through adventures and further fleshes out his background in more flashbacks (similar to the original Kung Fu series) introducing characters from K'un L'un such as the Thunderer and Yu-Ti, the August Personage in Jade. So you have a gre…

Especially in older comics, some "supervillain" or "supervillains" (say, a gang with an armored flying car or a M-S* with an earthquake machine or an army of robots) hold a city hostage in the belief that once they achieve objective X no-one can wrest control of the city from them. Just what sort of schemes might a villain use to "Rule the City", apart from schemes where they run it through subterfuge? Seriously, if he can take over a city but not the county/state/federal gummint, what's going to prevent the military from running in and smashing down the small-potatoes tyrant? After all, you don't want the rest of not-up-to-national-threat-level villainy to think you…

I'm creating a group of three super-assasions based loosly on the children's ryme "Rub-a-dub-dub". The Living Weapion: The "Butcher" of the three. A man with incredable martail arts abilities. Firearm: The "Baker" of the three. A man who can shoot flames out of his right stump (he acadently burnted off his right hand). Waxman: The "Candlestick Maker" of the three. A man made of living wax. The question: What do I call this group? There not a real team (thay take turns trying to kill the target, and compeats with each other, but are friends), but are hiered together all the time for jobs. Thank you.

Just thought I'd see what Herodom assembled thougth of this idea. The thought occurred to me last night right before I drifted off to sleep. what would everyone think of a campaign geared toward recreating the feel of the old superhero TV shows of the 1970s and early '80s? Shows such as Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk, and The Six Million Dollar Man, as well as the Spider-Man and Captain America TV movies. Lower-powered heroes, as much time spent out of costume as in (if not more), and plots involving people who just happened to cross paths with the PCs this week. Guns would be dangerous (even the Hulk wasn't bulletproof on TV), thugs would stand half a chance, and vill…

The likely response if real-world superheroes existed is cause for much speculation. The real world has provided us with an example of how important it is for a superhero to avoid police custody. http://articles.petoskeynews.com/2011-05-11/maximum-penalty_29534367

Something I'm curious about ... a fellow player and I have a difference of opinion on this subject. For those of you who have played characters connected, in some way, to a source generally considered to be divine or spiritual ... say, you found Mjolnir, or channel the power of some pantheon or other. (I came very close to opening this thread in the NGD, so if it gets moved, I'll definitely understand.) Does the source of the character's power obligate that the character become a member of a religion appropriate to such? For example, if your character had Apollo's bow or somesuch, would you feel that this should automatically make him worship the Olympian …

I was just looking at another potential character. They're a empath who can control and inflict one single emotion, fear. The problem is they can't turn it off entirely and as a result people react badly to them because they're afraid of them, even if they don't know why. Since this doesn't help, it only hinders, I was wondering how best to handle it -- as Distinctive Features: Everyone Fears Me, or as a Social Limitation? Or is it both? Thanks for any help

Let's say that Our Hero is a gadgeteer with a bit of superheroing experience under her belt, and likes to be prepared for everything. According to the comics, at least every few years, the Villain of the Month will be some sort of supernatural menace, surprisingly often vampires. So, then, with access to Father O'Malley's blessings, how would you go about building a Holy Water Gun, Garlic Salt & Pepper Spray, Silver Nitrate Dispenser, and similar harmless-to-normal-folk equipment? I haven't found any examples in any of my HERO books yet...

Futzing around with a character I'll probably never get to play ... the basic concept is similar to guys like Ryu from Street Fighter, possibly the DBZ fighters (albeit on a non-cosmic level), or even Lucario from Pokemon ... the Ki/Chakra/Hadou/Wave Guidance manipulation power. An idea I had for an attack was to scramble/disrupt the target's ki/etc, as an NND. The hard part is coming up with defenses for it ... the ones that spring to mind are: 1. Lacking a 'Ki flow' (being an elemental, robot, or otherwise being made of nonliving matter) 2. Power Defense I'm not sure this is 'resonably common' enough to defend against, though. Any other ideas anybody has…

I figured I'd jump into the Champions section of the board just in case there are those that don't look through the other areas. For those of you who want there is now some software and associated game definition file that facilitates playing HERO over the net. Check out their site and forum area. You'll be surprised at how much this can add to existing games and how it can bring back together groups that are now seperated by geography. http://www.kloogeinc.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?

In the campaign i'm running, all supers who plan on dooing any heroing need to be registered. This isn't the scary 'mutant control' sort of registration, though. It's more akin to a CPR card. To get one, you have to attend a week-long class. There is a fee, but there are scholarships available to cover it. In the class, attendees learn: Police Procedure: How to make legally binding arrests, protocol and legality of appropriate use of force and collateral. (Yes, you can throw a car to keep Doctor Bleak from killing people. No, you can't throw the car at him when he's flying away from the scene after being foiled, because it's not defense anymore, etc.) How to gath…

I'm toying with working up some agents for one of my NPC villains and, while I know I could just design them under a GM fiat saying 'That's just how they are..." the hard core gamer part of me wonders about how to accomplish the following effect: Simply put, these agents would be much akin to (in fact they are inspired by) the 'sleeper' type of Cylons we see in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. At the basic level, they would have no memory of serving their controller and might even have their mind fabricate 'false memories' to explain missing time, etc. I would presume that they would, in the main, be somewhat immune to being exposed by a hero mind scanning them …

Before the fall of the original Olympians, Hephaestus descended from Olympus and in the guise of a lame old man visited some of those who created and crafted in his name. The experience was upsetting. The smiths he visited treated the old man coldly at beset, one or two attempting to physically remove the pest from their forges. Already prone to fits of self-pity, Hephaestus sulked rather than smote. It was while he wandered, lost in his thoughts that he encountered a group of thieves who saw an old man hobbling alone. The descended on the god and accosted him. Before Hephaestus could even raise a hand to his own defense, the shout of a man drew his attention, a…

My first experience with Champions was Third Edition (it was a gift I received) in the late 1980s and have collected/played various Hero System games ever since. Most recently, I have been using Champions Complete and Fantasy Hero Complete at local game events along with converting previous campaign materials to 6th Edition. Although 6th Edition has its strengths over previous versions, I still find myself drawn to those earlier editions for various reasons (e.g. graphic design, style/tone of writing), especially when introducing Champions to brand new players who would be turned off by the rules-heavy nature of 5th and 6th Edition. Have other people in this f…

(Contains spoilers of the villains past) I'm planning on doing a Champions episode where the supervillain, Hideous, gets healed of his past injury and stops being a supervillain. I'm going with the original version of Hideous which leaves a bigger opportunity for exploration of what happened. Off-hand, I'm thinking a supervillain was battling Lady Blue to set her up as the bad guy to cover-up what was really going on: storage of illegal chemicals. The heroes exploration will lead to the villain, having worked for a company, which does a multitude of illegal shadow operations. It could expand to Viper being behind this or a supervillain team. Still thinking on …

Has anyone posted stats for "Aliens"? You know, acid blood, burst from chest and all that stuff? I'm planning on using them for an adventure tomorrow and would like to see what others have used, I'm assuming at least one person has tried them in a campaign at some point.
