Hey guys, I am just starting to prepare a new superhero campaign and despite owning seemingly dozens of superhero games, none quite do what I want, so I am going to run 5th edition hero. I do have 6th but some of the stuff was a dealbreaker for me (specifically losing the connection between primary and figured characteristics which i love!) I am probably most comfortable with 5th edition, but I wanted to know what is easy to grab from 6th edition that you would recommend for a supers game? I am open to anything big or small which you think can be easily added to 5th, if its just more detail, or new powers, advantages, limitations, skills, etc. I know that the disadva…

So, I am an experianced RPG player but completely new to the Hero system and looking for some help. I have read the 6th ed. PDF and that's it. I was wondering how I would go about constructing the "super" team the Boys, by Garth Ennis. Do I just up their strength to make them stronger? Should I stick with just giving them a high PD to soak damage or will they need some kind of Resistance as well? And what would be considered high? Alternatively if anyone has already built Hughie, Butcher and the gang and can just point me where to find them so I can have a look It would also be very much appreciated.

I had a thread for this before, but it's long since archived and cannot be edited, so here is a new thread. I want to index all the corrections for 4th edition Champions/Hero characters. I am uploading the corrected character sheets to my web site here: http://mattcave.mypressonline.com/champions.html -- 402 - Mind Games p17, Mind Slayer's Multipower really only needs a 78 point reserve, not 80 points, as she only has two Ultra powers and the highest one is only 78 points. She could put her telekinetic Flight into her Elemental Control. She should have DF "Detects as a mutant" for 10 points. p20, Soulfire's Killing Strike s…

This is for you GMs to tell some of your mistakes made before or during a Champions game. 1) I've written up a clever episode where the heroes eventually run into some robots to fight. It shouldn't be easy but not too powerful that they'll lose. Yes, everything looks good... except I forgot to stat out the robots! 2) The game is going well, the heroes are beginning to get near to the mastermind's base and the players are really looking to stomp some goodness into the baddy except... the stat sheets for the minions AND the villain simply can't be found. "I had them a minute ago!" 3) The heroes encounter an impressive villain for the firs…

When I first introduced superhero RPGs to a friend who's coming with me to a local game convention in late July, they were Champions and ICONS. She easily picked up on the rules-light ICONS within a few minutes and Champions (5th or 6th) made her head spin from all the number crunching and variations of game mechanics. Later on, she took one of my comments to heart about how 5th and 6th Edition books often read more like textbooks versus an actual game book. She then asked me something along the lines of, "Well, when was the last time Champions was fun for you?" My answer was 3rd Edition. 🤔 Has anyone else experienced that awkward realization? I remember a few…

So yeah, I got an old print copy of the Voice of Doom, and I was wondering if anyone has anyone has updated these villains from their 3rd edition versions.

If Champions never existed, what superhero RPG would you have played (or be playing today)? 1 2 3

It was one of those "what if" questions someone asked when she found out that I had collected/played Champions in its various forms for over 30 years. For me, it would have been DC Heroes published by Mayfair Games since I played it often my first year or two in college and the game support materials were available at the various game stores I shopped (I would transition to run Champions/Fantasy Hero in the latter two). Nowadays, it would be ICONS, which I host at the local game events. So, if Champions never existed, what superhero RPG would you have played (or be playing today)? 🤔

Want to create a character with the power to enter a healing Trance. Healing Trance: Regeneration (1 BODY per Hour), Can Heal Limbs, Doubles as Sleep (+1/4) (29 Active Points); Concentration, Must Concentrate throughout use of Constant Power (0 DCV; Character is totally unaware of nearby events; -1 1/2) Nonpersistent (-1/4) Does this make sense or would you build it as healing.

From time to time I'll post small bits here. Mostly to keep psyber624 from drooling all over the board. Some of these may not be used. Some already have a place in the grand scheme of things.

Hi, Everyone! I posted a group of elemental themed villains inspired by the 1980s cartoon Inhumanoids and the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon strip. They are the following; Magmax - Lava elemental, inspired by the character Metlar (450 pts) Revenant - Bone golem, inspired by the character Decompose (400 pts) Trellis - Plant elemental, inspired by the character Tendril (400 pts) Snow Goon #1 and #2 - Inspired by Calvin & Hobbes' creations one winter day that went mad! (250 pts each) Enjoy! 😀

The thread about buildings that could make cool hero bases reminded me of an earlier thread in which I offered and solicited ideas for buildings and other places that villains could easily convert into secret bases. That in turn led to the HQ the PCs acquired in my Champions campaign, Avant Guard: a refurbished derelict ship. Our forum colleague Lord Liaden suggested the idea, so I named the ship the RV Liaden. The Champions forum has been a bit slow lately, so I thought some people might be amused by seeing what I eventually devised -- with maps. (Hex mapped, because we still play 5e.) Here's the first section: AVANT GUARD BASE: THE RV LIADEN …

I missed something obvious with another question that I was going to post, but this one is bugging me. I create an END reserve (say 50 with a recovery of 7) (forgot there is the OIF). The Active Points are 12 and the Real points show up as 10. But I've divided by 1.5 and I get an entirely different number. So far Hero Designer hasn't done me wrong. I have used 4th edition mostly and have had to re-learn things. So, could someone tell me what I am missing? Thanks.

Hey know this is random, but Black Mamba (AKA Dr. Timothy Blank) has been a long standing member of the Champions pantheon. But one thing has confused me for years One this that has been consistent with him through all his appearances is his "Drain" (1/2 vs. CON and 1/2 vs. PD)....what is the special effect of this ability? a constriction attack? poison? something more exotic? Just been on my mind for the last few days. Thanks

In any organization (business, government, criminal, etc), there will always be those effectively unnamed individuals who perform the organization's grunt work. Effectively this will be things such as making certain the physical properties remain clean and presentable, maintain inventory levels, deal with customer, and other functions of daily life for the organization. However, most stories deal with the high level management or exceptional individual that stands out. Let's talk about the more traditional individual that makes up these organizations and get their stories out.

This for a long time was one of my go to sites for champions, I noticed its still active, but not had an update since 2006. Does anyone know why it has not been updated for such a long time? Is there anywhere else that hero write ups get compiled on the net?

Enjoy! 😉

This is a nostalgia project where I drew inspiration from the Ultimates and other villains to create the Ultramercs, a group of super villains for hire. Below is the link to Microsoft Word write-ups for the characters (6th Edition) along with Hero Designer files (6th and 5th Edition) in a consolidated WinZip file. Each character is 400 points for 6th Edition. The members are: Tangleweb (Inspired by Binder of the Ultimates) LaBrea (Inspired by Plasmoid of the Ultimates) Cybrute (Inspired by Blackstar of the Ultimates) Fast Lane (Inspired by Slick of the Ultimates) Ekrixi (Inspired by Dr. Photon of V.O.I.C.E.) …

My claim in brief: V’han’s presence in the Champions Universe is so large that her metaptot is the only one that matters, and all you can do is serve or oppose her. While a worthy campaign idea, it essentially writes the setting into a corner. That said, I hope you’ll forgive me for belaboring the point but I feel I need to set up some explanation first so as to prevent confusion. I shouldn’t assume people know as much as I do on the topic. For those unfamiliar with the subject, cosmic horror is where the universe is dominated by a vast power that’s at-best indifferent and not at all friendly. It spawned by new discoveries in astrophysics, growi…

Since much of the discussion in the Pittsburgh thread is focused on the teenaged characters, I wondered about what it would be like if a city only had teen superhumans in it, heroes and villains. Perhaps due to some strange confluence or a controlling power dictating it, adults don’t get superpowers there and it is not a place where any adult superhumans ever seem to go. I was also wondering what a superhuman world might be like if people gained powers as teens but then lost them when they reached adulthood or at an arbitrary age like 20 or 25, so only young people had powers.

Here are my character write-ups for AC Comics' Ms. Victory, featuring the original (Joan Wayne) and her daughter who was her temporary replacement (Jennifer Burke). Both are roughly each other's equal in power levels at 400 points. In the few times I brought them to a game convention, players who had heard of Ms. Victory used her for the scenario (the original was generally preferred since she could fly). The Hero Designer Files and character sheets in Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF are included in the Zip file. Ms. Victory (Wayne and Burke) Enjoy! 😉

I assume there is, or there couldn't be any campaigns based around it. So far, what I can think of are: Adventures frequently happening in Orchard Lake Orchardsville. There'd need to be an explanation for that conspicuous implausibility, however. Getting caught up in whatever happens in Millennium City. Most plausible, but it's weekends-only. Also not an option in a 90's campaign without a shady means of transport... The students get nosy into the lives of people at school. Given that Ravenswood is, on the surface, a rich kid's school, there'd probably be a lot of white-collar dirty deeds to look into. Which I'm into, but am not sure about the rest…

Suppose I'm looking to create a team of superhumans designed to neutralize, abduct, and otherwise eliminate meddlesome superheroes...or -villains. Because I do. What powers and powersets would you all recommend?
