Hi all, I've finally done it. I've got the perfect solution, I hope, to the Bat Team problem. Due to criminal action, Batman has broken most of his bones, had his identity exposed, and has sufferred a stroke. Robin (Tim) is dead. Nightwing (Dick) lives in Denver. Batgirl (Barbara) was on another case when the trouble occurred. Who will help her defend Gotham City? Timeline wise, were in the animated Batman universe after the second series. Also, we're in an alternate Champions Universe where John Collingsworth is the President, most superhero teams have more than one federal liaison, and the existance of the Stargate Project was recently exposed by the NID an…

Our current campaign storyline involves a baddie re-animating old corpses. Our campaign is set in an amalgam of the DC and Marvel universes. He has now stepped up the attacks by managing to revive and control an unspecified alien Green Lantern, Captain America's old sidekick Bucky, and Jason Todd (Robin #2 of 3). So can any of you comic book fans with eidetic memory come up with other heroes who are truly dead and gone, and haven't been brought back by the comic publishers? I'm interested in just those from the last century, not really from the distant past or far future (like the Legion of Superheroes). Others I could think of include the original Supergirl (Kara/Li…

Hi all, Just out of curiosity, how many of you playing in the official Hero Universe setting ever intend to use some of the other genres as settings for time travel adventures? Myself, I expect/hope to see something soon covering the Turakian Age, as one of the characters in my campaign gets his powers from an artifact from that time -- it was built to oppose Krim and Takofanes/Kal-Turak, and since the character is /very/ curious about its real origins I expect we'll be taking a little trip one of these days...

I am working on a Golden Age sonics character called Anthem. Two questions for the Learned Panel on limitations for her powers: She has a PRE Aid when she sings the National Anthem. What would you give 'Only Works On Americans'? She is part of the Defenders Of Justice that stayed behind on the homefront as per Champions cannon, so she will spend most of her time around Americans. I have it at a -1/2. Too High? Too Low? She has a 'Siren Song' styled Mind Control, which I want to give a 'Target Must Be In Earshot' Limitation. Since 'Requires Eye Contact' is a -1/2, I was thinking more of a -1/4 since sound travels and is indirect. Or maybe Limited Range? …

So I'm starting a new game

Hi there - I've been away for a year or so (just after the boards switched over last time) but now that I'm setting up to start a game of Champions for some new players, I've found my way back again. As none of the players have ever used Hero System before, I've given them the task of giving me a thorough description of the people they want to play - average normals, University students with no unusual abilities. I've chosen to work all of the character creation themselves, as I've decided to run a mutant game, and have figured out the power-set I'm going to go with for each of the characters when their powers surface in the first adventure. Part of the story…

I'm making a character who is imbued with the powers of the Greek god Hermes. Since Hermes is, amongst several other things, the god of trickery and deception I thought the character should have some kind of enhanced sense to allow him to see through deceptions of some kind. Since this concept could become a little too powerful and unbalancing I thought I'd stick to an enhanced sense that would only allow me to perceive through illusions made by the Images power (I'll also take mental defense only usable vs Mental Illusions). How should I go about that? My first thought was either a bonus to perception, only vs Images or Detect: Images (as sense, discrimiatory, et…

I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that you can do a move through with a weapon, I just can't find it anywhere. If someone could clear this up for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. The main question I had was (if they are allowed), how the damage is figured with an HKA. Say you have 50STR and a 2d6 HKA, the max damage you should be able to do it 4d6 KA, but does that increase with the momentum from a move through? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

If I wanted to create a character who doesn;t intially know they are destined to be a superhero and doesn;t even know he has superpowers, much less what they are, how would this be handled? I'm thinking about the situation where the character either has his "origin" over the course of play (he's a less powerfulnormal, then has accident and gets superpowers that he did not expect and initially has a hard time controlling) or a character with innate super-potential that emerges gradually over time (every so often he gets a new power or super-characteristic until his character is filled out to full power). Is there a good way in-game to handle this sort of developemnt. …

I was wondering if anyone has updated any of the old Champions adventures? Specifically, Wings of the Valkerie, and TGSVC (the great supervillian contest) These have always been two of my favorites and I'm thinking about using one or both against my players. The main problem is I procrastinate and mind blank about halfway thru. So I was wondering if anyone had started on them so when I mind blank, I'll be close to done. TimS

Starting my first thread, so be kind. OK, over the course of several weeks of playing I finally got the players where I want. Namely, the mini-plot I have been building up to for the past 5+ years. One of their team members had her spaceship stolen by a VIPER villain, who attempted to use it to steal some medical equipment from some aliens. The heroes of course, boarded a secondary spaceship, and chased after them. While they were on the other world, they prevented an alien fleet from invading the Earth. (dang aliens) Now using various methods, the heroes are going home. They will each have at least one short scenario on the way back, and it will take…

Hi all, I'm starting a campaign in Gotham City, New Jersey using Champions 5E, and I'd some help. We're using the Batman Animated timeline and this Gotham's in an alternate version of the Champions Universe where, as far as the general population knows, there is no life in outer space. UNTIL has not put a space station up and James Collingsworth is the President of the United States. Wondering who will protect Gotham City if something happens to him, Batman has formed the Bat Team, a group of young heroes he is mentoring. Aside from Alfred, his butler, his only assistant, so far, is his engineer, a brainy and beautiful woman. Although a skilled kunoichi, or femal…

Okay, Started my first Hero Campeign last weekend with adults (I have been playing with my son & Daughter for the last few years). First over half the group did not show up (Two had to work, one who knows). The adventure was a simple misdirection Museum heist of some mystical artifacts by grab and Talismen. One player through his Secret ID out the window to start lobbying fireballs at Talismen The other player managed to get captured by the mind controlled GRAB as they were stealing sacrificial daggers I'm trying to figure out what I am doing to mage boy now...

Allrighty, fellow Herophiles. The 'Queen City Knights' campaign officially started this week. I would like to thank everyone that offered their time, advice and suggestions. In appreciation, I thought you might like to know how things are going. So, I've decided to describe the campaign as it unfolds. Note: QCK is set in a slightly altered CU where magic doesn't exist. Mutants are the prefered origin source, but aliens are accepted as well. The current roster of characters is as follows: Titan - (aka Hank Sanders). Powered Armored Brick. CEO, owner and founder of Muratech, a locally based multinational conglomerate that specializes in such things as su…

Ah, romance 1 2

Best left to blue booking in some folks opinions, and sometimes assumed off panel, Romance is nevertheless a common element in the super hero genre. Be it dark knights and spider guys attracted to thiefs with cat motiffs, nosey reporters with a penchant for being thrown off buildings taking the hearts of caped wonders, or fellow super heroes forging romances within their own team between saving the world sessions; Romance, like excrement and little green apples, happens. I've noticed the romances my own Players' Characterss' have had tend to be with equals, that is, other superhumans. This is in part my fault, if an NPC intrigues me long enough, it's possible he/she…

Are their any downloadable 5th Ed. character sheets with room on the sheet for pictures of your character? Hero provides for free download those old '82 character picture templates (That I LOVE! It was seeing character sheets with those templates, and everyones character done up in colored pencil or felt pen, that got me to first give Champs a try.) I'm wondering if there are some 5th Ed. Champs character sheets with a big ol' blank rectangle on the front where a nicely resized '82 template could be placed in? On a side note, as a GM, I run Champs at 250 points, however if the player provides a color picture of his character, I give him 10 bonus points, …

I have the 5th Ed Hero book. I'll be starting up a Champs campaign soon, one where all the players will be playing villains. It will be set in the official CU, but set in Boston. I have the members of the BHL (Boston Hero's League) as well as a few other local heros and villains for the players to interact with. Also my local mastermind villain. I DO plan to pick up Conquerors, Killers, And Crooks as well as Champions Universe. Like I said, I have the big black 5th Ed. book. Eventually I'll get Champions Battlegrounds. Do I really NEED the Champions book? I'm thinking rather than the big black book, I'll recommend my players pick up that one. Tha…

I have the Champions in my campaign (it's ran in MC), but I don't like using certain memberes of the team. My changes thus far has been to remove Witchcraft (I don't like Mystical characters being really blatant in my campaign; they are there, sure, but they don't like being Blatant). I also don't have ... Nighthawk is it? Mainly because I have two dark and brooding PCs and I figured it was partially redundant. Also I changed Ironclad from an Alien to something from another dimension (because I don't like blatant aliens either) and made Kinetik a member of the champs (Basicly an ally to the champs; he attends the meetings most of the time, he helps them in most …

In one of the things I've been watching recently, five teenage girls in a military unit have the ability to summon suits of power armor from within their spirits. fair enough. the trick is -- THEY DON'T WEAR THEM! They control the suits remotely with their bodies and stand on platforms in the open while doing so. The suits have complete freedom of movement, but offer no protection to the girls, who are just as vulnerable to attack as normals 9maybe even more so, since they're out in the open and too busy controlling the armor to really defend themselves). If you wanted to give a player-character this kind of ability, with this kind of weakness, how would you go about…

In the 5th Edition Champions Universe, in 1980, the American Superhuman and Paranormal Registration Act was passed with (it seems) strong public support but an unwelcome reception among super heroes. Identies are required, but only 'authorized' personel can gather that info from the data base. It is claimed that it has NEVER Been hacked. It's not heavily enforced, but if you're not registered, it would seem police and govt officials won't raise one finger to help you beyond putting the prisoners in jail. Now, OOC (Out of Character) I am not too crazy about this set up, but I'm trying to go with it. However, I'm curious just how many characters are registering (o…

One of my player killed a member of Psi (Soulfire to be exact...a young misguided youth of 19 ). We've taken a campaign hiatus which gives me time to think on what to do. I'm thinking of Murder Two and haven't decided if the DA wants to try to prove pre-meditation since the group was on patrol to do battle with Psi and "ran" into them. It was definitely an excessive use of force...Oh yeah, and the "hero" left the scene of the crime. Psi can also run amok with this...bad publicity and mental suggestions galore!

In reading the other Characters who Kill thread, An entertaining thought occured. I stared this thread to not detract from the other. Your PC superteam is at headqusrters when a call comes in from the Warden at Stronghold. One of the villains the PCs put away has been tried, convicted and been given the death penalty. The problem is, Stronghold doesn't have the capacity to carry out the sentence. The PCs are the only ones who've ever managed to injure him.
