Hey Lightray, On this issue there is definitely more that one way to skin a cat. The crux is how to simulate "Wu Fu" style shooting without getting overly complicated. If deciding between autofire & rapid fire, both need additional skill levels for accuracy. The difference is that if you use rapid fire you have a 1/2 DCV penalty, with autofire you do not. Before FRed many people handled this type of thing as naked advantages or advantages placed different power levels. The more active points on the power, the bigger gun you could use, up to the max RKA. Assuming a 9mm Baretta for example: 1d6+1 RKA, Area of Effect- Any (to simulate picking ta…

I'm writing a phony interview for my Champions campaign newspaper, the Weekly Globe Enquirer, of the mayor of Tintagle where a recent supernatural incident occured. What I need is British slang for "gadget" or "equipment." The only word I know in that vein is "kit," which I'm not certain is correct slang for military hardware. And if anyone knows a good website or dictionary to get translations from our mother tongue to American and vice versa, I'd appreciate it. I'm still trying to figure out why we Yanks spell "grey" with an "a" and leave out the "u" in "harbour".

Hey all I just wanted to post a character to get your opinions. Would you allow him in a game of yours? If so what would you change? If not what would you change?P.S.: I know his CV is low but that represents his lack of experience with his powers & if you’re a person who just plain out laws V.P.P. then on that particular thing I will admit that I am not compromising as in our games they are encouraged as about the only way to simulate what most comic characters do with their powers.JerichoPlayer: Robert Towell Val Char Cost 12 STR 2 18 DEX 24 20 CON 20 12 BODY 4 13 INT 3 19 EGO 18 30 PRE 20 16 COM 3 5/15 PD 3 5/15 ED 1 4 SPD 12 10 …

I began writing up the original Blue Beetle during a "Battle of the Costumed Crimefighters" thread we had a while back. Here's the finished product. Working on a new character and asking some help. During the Golden Age, a young archealogist was bestowed the power to become a cat-like creature by Bast, who I think is the Egyptian goddess with the cat motiff. Fast foward to today and a new character will be bestowed the power, a student of the field itself. Anyway... my take is that the switch between the student more physical in that she has a new body and approrpriate powers. Mentally, she has the same knowledge and memories but her emotions shift a bit to be a bit more cat-like (affectionate, likes hunting, enjoys laying out in the sun, and also feels more empowered/confident). So, is this a MF or I…

I have a problem. I am a point gout. My 250 point characters end up at 500, my "high powered" characters edge towards infinity. Anyone else? I just made two 600 point characters. they ended up being 675 and 705 and neither looked like I wanted... is all lost for me? Should I quit the point based system in favor of a "storyteller" system that doens't really care what your chracter does as long as he looks angsty? *sorry, just pouting*

I'm starting up a high level game, either before or when Galactic Champions arrives, and I'm trying to think up the basic epic villain archetypes. So far: 1. Dimensional Conqueror/Terror from Beyond--kind of the top of the food chain. This is actually a type of villain that is highly successful, and our lowly dimension is the only one that seems to frustrate their ambitions again and again. 2. Supernatural Evil Power--a slight variation on 1, generally your demonic types fall into this category. 3. Alien overlord--a powerful alien emperor who wants to build an intergalactic bypass in the space the planet currently occupies. 4. inscrutable cosmic entity--…

I thought I'd run this by and see how people react. I'm starting my first Champions campaign soon (I've been running other Hero for >15 years), and one of the players came up with an interesting concept: machine control. Inspired in part by young Anakin Solo. Basically, the idea is that the character talks or communes with the target machine and can then repair it or take control of it. But how to do this in Hero? Repair is easy in concept, an Aid or Healing limited only to machines (or maybe Regeneration usable by others?). For taking over machines, I came up with two solutions. The first is a linked Psychokinesis, limited to only machine controls,…

As noted earlier, I'm working on writing up some characters for a super hero world I might work on one day. Yeah right. Anyway, I tend to be bad with names and was going to run some by for some help. Thanks. Team Name: The Knights (possible The Silver Knights, which connote purity and is a nice nod to the Silver Age; the team in general has modern day realism but maintains a silver age morality in terms of doing the right thing, killing is bad, etc... to show that just because things are bad, you don't have to be part of the problem). Members: Lady Silver: (note, if I go with the word Silver in the knights, I would need to change this): leader and sorcer…

Well with someone asking to flesh out one Superthug team, here is a request to flesh out a second from the same book. How would you add member to this team. As only 6 members were listed, this team screams for filling out. Members: Electra-leader, Lightning based EC with fly, FF, EB Professor Possesser-Mentalist with telepathy, MC, and Ego Attack (causes targets to fall asleep) Volt-Ancient warrior gifted with Immortality and the ability to generate an electrical feild around his hands. Has alot of sciences and is also the team Gadgeteer. Blaze-Speedster with the ability to leave a trail of flame behind him as he runs. Telefist-Brick with …

I've found the two free documents listing the Heroes and Villains of the Champions Universe extremely helpful in designing and running my Champions Universe Campaign. What I would find even more helpful would be a pdf copy of the Champions Universe Timeline (from the CU Book) that I could print out and give to my players as a handout (not to mention cut and past into Word so I can add my own "historical" events of the past and entries from our campaign). Just a Suggestion/Request.

I'm building an Artificial Intelligence computer for my player's character, and could use some help with the Disadvantages. Is it within reason (and fair) to use the Disadvantages Unable to Walk, and Cannot Taste/Smell for the A.I.? If this is fair, what other Physical Disadvantages could I assign to the A.I.? I already have some Psychological ones too, but would any from other catagories be permissable? Thanks in advance. Acroyear II

One week to go, and I'm getting psyched. As much as I liked Milwaukee, from what I've heard Indianapolis will be a real upgrade in facilities. Did you preregister for most of your events? Or do you prefer to get generic tickets and wing it when you get there? What are you most looking forward to?

How do you know when to Dive for Cover? As a general rule I will not let characters Dive for Cover in abusive ways. Like avoiding hand to hand attacks (that’s what Dodge is for)….ect. But I have come to the conclusions that I may be too lenient in letting them do it vs. area effect attacks. Obviously if the NPC’s are throwing (or launching) grenades if a save bet you should/could Dive for Cover. But what about the energy projector that has an exploding lighting bolt? If the PC’s have never seen said energy projector fire an exploding lighting bolt how they would know to Dive for Cover. Especially if the said energy projectors normal lighting bolt and explosiv…

This saturday is probably going to be my first Champions game, a Low-Powered Superhero Game (150+100 Disadvantages) and in order to make my life as simple a possible, I've decided to make a brick-type character - super-strength, high resistant PD and ED, moderate other defenses. The problem is, I haven't been able to do this without resorting to supreme cheese (like taking Characteristics in an Elemental Control) or running out of points well before I got going properly. I was hoping that some people on the forum could help me make a low-powered brick - proof versus bricks and normals with clubs, but nonetheless with well-rounded, broad defense and offense. Any tips would…

Manifesting Weapons Help
by Guest C_Zeree- 9 replies

The character can manifest weapons out of energy. Once manifested they stay solid. It takes him a moment to manifest the weapons. Thus I was thinking, just buy the weapons outright: HKA, 0 END, OIF (To represent if taken he can manifest others), Extra Time (only to activate constant powers) Now the semi tricky part, he can throw some of the weapons. Example: he manifests daggers and throws three of them for an autofire. I would do this: RKA, OIF (energy weapon) And put a few more in a multipower. I was thinking Lockout on the weapons, but its not really, since he can easily manifest more. It all seems clunky. I was thinking VPP, ener…

There's a lot of reference to ages - golden age, silver age, bronze age, etc - when describing Champs campaigns. I'm only an intermediate comic book fan; I can tell the original JSA from the JLA, I know how many Robins there have been, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what happened at Zero Hour or Genesis or intelligently compare and contrast the X-Men of today to their original stories. Could someone wise and knowledgeable break down what the various ages are like, and how they make for different types of campaigns in Champs? I'd be very grateful. I've been playing Champs only since 4th Edition, I must confess, and it's been one nice, long campaign the whole wa…

Greetings all, My gaming group is looking to start a Superhero game. The game will be a 'troupe game' (meaning everyone is going to be sharing GMing duties). Our game is going to mostly focus on the lives of people that are college students and starting their superhero careers. Each player will be allowed to play one beginning hero, and if they choose they can also play an experienced veteran hero that the others can get advice from. Anyway, one of our players that is new to the system wanted some guidance on setting characteristic values. I was told that FREd had a table to show roughly what each value would represent. I could only find that average human …
