This saturday is probably going to be my first Champions game, a Low-Powered Superhero Game (150+100 Disadvantages) and in order to make my life as simple a possible, I've decided to make a brick-type character - super-strength, high resistant PD and ED, moderate other defenses. The problem is, I haven't been able to do this without resorting to supreme cheese (like taking Characteristics in an Elemental Control) or running out of points well before I got going properly. I was hoping that some people on the forum could help me make a low-powered brick - proof versus bricks and normals with clubs, but nonetheless with well-rounded, broad defense and offense. Any tips would…

Manifesting Weapons Help
by Guest C_Zeree- 9 replies

The character can manifest weapons out of energy. Once manifested they stay solid. It takes him a moment to manifest the weapons. Thus I was thinking, just buy the weapons outright: HKA, 0 END, OIF (To represent if taken he can manifest others), Extra Time (only to activate constant powers) Now the semi tricky part, he can throw some of the weapons. Example: he manifests daggers and throws three of them for an autofire. I would do this: RKA, OIF (energy weapon) And put a few more in a multipower. I was thinking Lockout on the weapons, but its not really, since he can easily manifest more. It all seems clunky. I was thinking VPP, ener…

There's a lot of reference to ages - golden age, silver age, bronze age, etc - when describing Champs campaigns. I'm only an intermediate comic book fan; I can tell the original JSA from the JLA, I know how many Robins there have been, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what happened at Zero Hour or Genesis or intelligently compare and contrast the X-Men of today to their original stories. Could someone wise and knowledgeable break down what the various ages are like, and how they make for different types of campaigns in Champs? I'd be very grateful. I've been playing Champs only since 4th Edition, I must confess, and it's been one nice, long campaign the whole wa…

Greetings all, My gaming group is looking to start a Superhero game. The game will be a 'troupe game' (meaning everyone is going to be sharing GMing duties). Our game is going to mostly focus on the lives of people that are college students and starting their superhero careers. Each player will be allowed to play one beginning hero, and if they choose they can also play an experienced veteran hero that the others can get advice from. Anyway, one of our players that is new to the system wanted some guidance on setting characteristic values. I was told that FREd had a table to show roughly what each value would represent. I could only find that average human …

Okay we have had Superman vs Thor, Batman vs Cap, I think if I dug around I could find Dr Fate vs Dr Strange but now is the battle to end all battles: The evil villain Dust Bunny has set two unbeleivable powers of good against each other, who will be victorious In this corner we have Javis, first the Butler to the Invincible Iron Man but would become famous as the Butler to Earth's Mightiest Heroes AND IN THIS CORNER We have Alfred, the faithful butler to probable the hardes master posible that of Bruce Wayne...

Hello all! This is the good doctor's wife, Fraulein Codename, and I have a question. I'm working on a character that has powers similar to that of a magician only with a certain amount of flair. What I would like to know, is how would any of you suggest doing a presdigitation ability? For example, the ability make things appear, such as the keys to the prison cell tucked neatly away behind someone's ear; pull an enemies holstered weapon from her own pocket, etc. Thank you all! Fraulein Codename -- Dr Rotwang's wife.

Only in Hero ID and Distinctive Features A Were-Wolf that keeps his personality, skills, and knowledge in wolf form. Sound more like Only in Hero ID, more them multi-form to me. So going with that how would you do the Distinctive Features (Were-Wolf)? Would you just apply them the same -1/4 Disadvantage as powers? Thus decreasing the value of the disadvantage? I can't find anything in the FAQ or the book to handle this. Thoughts?

An exact number isn't need, just an idea of how many paranormals exist in your world. Just asking since I'm writing up a world right now. Who knows, I might win the lotto and self-publish. Anyway, I decided personally to have the main team be the first supers of a new, modern generation and decided that two generations (Golden and Silver) had passed before but were either dead, retired, or "other" (storyline secret, sorry). The reason is that this approach gives more freedom and lets the team have a much greater impact on the world: without needing insanely high point totals they are still the premier team (JLA or Avenge equivalent). I like it. It's intended…

Okey, a very simple concept that is screwing up my head... I figure that a character travelling at great speeds become a blur - so much so that recognizing him would be difficult. So Joe, in his Secret ID does a quick run from point A to point B in his secret ID but because he moves so fast, no one can ID him. I first thought invisibility, but that isn't quite right. Then I thought the Disguise skill but it also didn't seem appropriate - rolling everytime he ran to hide himself. Finally, I am thinking of Change Environment to add some negs to the Per roll but again, not fitting the mold. Has anyone created such a SFX that would work? Could it be a min…

This is just something that hacks me off right now. I'm running the classic 'Microfilm Madness' scenario from the VIPER 4th Edition book, updated to 5th. It's the initial fight at the graveyard, and in the middle of the fight ... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIGHT! ... one of my players requests to LOOK AT THE VIPER BOOK while I'm in the middle of running a fight out of it!! I could not believe that anybody would have the sheer unbridled gall to ask me if they could, basically, look up the stats of the villain while they were in the middle of fighting them. The only other time anything of the sort happened, the PCs were fighting Firewing and one of them said, aloud, "…

Well, I know that the originals are owned by others. But I always had (my own version) of the characters in my world. I pulled a "ragnarok" type demise for them (see JSA), where they just disappeared. They were soon replaced with a team of eerily similar, frighteningly young heroes and heroines who had each been chosen personally by the individual members of the original team. I don't want to step on any toes, but would anyone mind if I posted them here? I have finally updated the leader, Crossfire, to 5E and rewrote his origin, and want to show it off. But if the combined legal expertise of the boards tells me that maybe I should just keep these legacy heroes to my self …

Ok I was just looking through a Soul Calibur 2 website and I was curious, how would you create Ivy's Valentine Sword using the HERO system? For those unfamiliar with Soul Calibur the Valentine Sword is a sword created via alchemy which has the qualities of both a sword and a chain whip. In addition, it has a base intelligence of it's own. I'm wondering as I'm planning on having a possible character of mine use such a weapon.

Hiya, folks. I think I've asked this before, but hell if I remember the answer. This time, I promise to learn! My wife and I both have ideas for characters whose powers are derived from an ingested drug. In her character's case, the drug gives her her powers (healing) for 24 hours; the powers leave in an hour if she misses a dose. My character turns into a sexy, blood-thirsty she-snake for 20 minutes at a time. We have no idea how to build "Has powers" with "When she takes the drug". Honest. I mean, we're not stupid; we just...can't...figure it out. Help? Thanks in advance.

Ok, I admit this is going to set of some cheese alarms, but its late, Im bored, and well, it sounded like fun to make. (Was made as an automaton, fyi) I'm also quite sure there are some glaring no-no's, as I dont have my copy of fred with me, atm. The story of this blade dates back to the mythic era, when mages and dragons walked the lands, a time lost to pre-history and myth. The greatest knight of the era made a holy vow in a time of great evil in his land, that his spirit would never rest while evil walked the world. He commissioned the greatest blade ever seen, crafted from the heart of a fallen star, it weighed more then many men. It was ensorcelled with magic to …

I run a large group of 9, I have both my number Crunchers, and my Role-players, for this reason I do story driven campaigns with high action. But occasionally usually after one of my number crunchers do a mighty stunt in combat, the rolplayers get peeved and start whining about character power. So over the years I have put caps on starting powers and stats and even taking the time to tell the role-players how do some of the basic number crunching tricks. From this I have learned that building the character properly in the first place to follow or grow into your hero's concept is actually far more powerful then a cool concept. Opinions?

I'd like to give a low powered brick that I'm working on a Pimp Slap type power. It would be a Pre Drain with jestures and incantations, but I'd like to tie it into a slap (punch) too. The brick just uses his strengh in combat (No +HA's) so, would an advantage work to combine the drain with a slap, or do I need to somehow link a slap with the drain? Mightybec
