I was confused when Monolith pointed out to me on a sample construction that I hadn't bought an adder for my change environment. No mention was made of the need for an adder to have more than one effect for change environment in FRED. After re-reading the Change Environment Rules I was not under the impression that it was called for. I finally bought USPD and a friend who I had discussed this with found the adder... in the margins! He found two more adders. All these adders interpreted powers in FRED to be more limiting than a reading of the powers in FRED led either of us to believe. I cry foul! If you want to add new rules to the game, it's one thing to add ad…

Here's one for all you GMs out there. Did a player ever come to you with a power that seemed harmless enough, but ended up twisting your campaign beyond your initial expectations after you approved it? Post your humorous anecdotes here. Players too, even if you weren't the GM in a campaign this happened in.

The new Champions book listed a handful of crimesolving gadgets that all superhero teams would find useful - secure headset radios, tracking devices, power-cuffs, etc. I haven't bought that book yet, and I'm not planning on it (I've run and played Champs for years), but I'd like to spur some ideas on (A) crimesolving gadgets, and ( alternate ways of writing up the same gadgets. I'll start with ( for the tracking device, or "homing beacon." From what I recall, the write-up in Champions was wordy and complicated; I'd like to see if it couldn't be simplified. The real power in a homing beacon isn't in the beacon, I figured - it's in the handheld computer that display…

Just wanted to get some input from the vast number of players and GMs out there. I have a great desire to start a Champions campaign. My problem is finding players. If you were new to an area or even been a long time resident but didn't have a "Champions" base to call upon. How would you attempt to recruit players? Thank you all for your input.

I have a minor issue with the Nega-Beam, as presented in the USPD. It's actually NOT the idea of using Summon to cheaply get a ginormous super-devasating energy blast that's nearly impossible to stop. I've actually seen it done before. While I'm probably being a little *too* anal-retentive with this, technically you're 'summoning' a living thing (or at least semi-sentient; it has an EGO score). And while the power is, in fact, intended for villains who wouldn't care if they were obliterating a living being, if a good guy started using it, would that constitute a 'kill' for a Code vs Killing? Let us assume that said good-guy only uses it for busting robots or bui…

The effect I am trying to create is flight using a combination of anti-gravity (AG) and thrust - kinda like Hawkman. Basically, someone is wearing an anti-gravity device and they have a jet back or some other way of producing the thrust for forward momentum. If they get hit or stunned, they will not fall, as the AG belt is what is keeping them up. Obviously, if you take away the AG belt, they can't get airborn. My initial build on this is to have two seperate flight powers: the first slot is just to float, no forward thrust; the second being thrust only. But I'm wondering if there is a more efficient construct for this.

One of my players is looking to improve his hearing by spending xp. Specifically, he has +4 to his hearing perception rolls, and now wants to buy targetting for his hearing. It seems to me that they should be in the same power (not separated at all). However, the example of Kodiak in Millenium City seems to imply that they can be separated out, and should be. Now, I realize I can make a GM's fiat decision here, but I'm curious what the correct Official way to handle this would be.

I'm trying to stat out Supes circa 1941. He was relatively mundane compared to his Silver age version but I'm really not clear as to what extent. He is said to be able to withstand a howitzer shell exploding and is strong enough to Lift a car, beyond that I'm blank. So if anyone could help answer the following; 1.) How strong? i'm guessing 60-65. 2.) He can leap tall buildings. Could he not fly outright originally? Could he by '41? 3.) How about the other super powers like X-ray vision, Heat vision, super breath and the rest of the senses? 4.) Can I assume Kryptonite worked pretty much the way it does today? Any help appreciated

Darren, Steve... anybody. Having just gone to see X2 last night has rekindled in me an interest in super school settings. I have Champions Universe AND Millennium City, but am curious if any further development of Ravenswood Academy is planned? Are there any future products in the works that include it? Inquiring minds would like to know

Hi folks! I've a question or two for you. Yes, you!! Now put down that Krispy Kreme and read up maggot! Sorry, I seemed to be channeling R. Lee Ermey for a moment there... 1) What is your guesstimate of role-playing vs. combat/action in your Champions games? 2) How many folks have players new to the Hero system in their games? Thanks! Take care, Harry

Hi All, I am attempting to do a write-up in 5th Ed for ths character from the 4th Ed module The Zodiac Conspiracy but am having difficulties. The description given for her powers is not descriptive at all. How does her Transform work (what are it effects)? Why does she have an EGO to END Transfer? Does she shapechange forms including growth and shrinking or is she a kind of Ant-woman to giant-woman character? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks Daz

It occurs to me that a couple of the categories in the Online USPD now have enough listings that an artist who felt properly inspired could make up some drawings for them. Specifically, I'm thinking of Body Control Powers and Luck Powers. I think it'd be very interesting to see Nighthawk trying to strangle Leech through the latter's Oxygenated Skin, or facing down Hazard (again) as Mechassassin "happens" to show up on the scene as Hazard's Rescuer. Of course, actual posting in the online USPD would be subject to Steve's approval... but what does anyone else think?

In my last post, I asked for help designing or finding tanks and related military weapons used to go after some high-powered PC's. The PC's survived the attack, and have now determined to "take over the country" by marching right into the Congress and announcing their intentions. They seem to think that since they are (they believe) among the most powerful beings on the planet, there is nothing that can stop them. Maybe that's true, maybe it isn't; here's my question: What is the liklihood of success? These are 9 or so PC's from 300 pts to more than 700 pts. But I figure the U.S. Gov't is would stop at nothing to get rid of them once their intentions are clear, …

Please forgive my mispelings. Terror Incorprated (The New) City Under Glass - Profesor Murete was not killed, as was preveously thought, only majorly injered and driven insain. Still posising a scientific mind (othoe warped), he has decided to do what his mentor, Dr. Distroyer has not quite done yet: Destroy Milimum City. He has set up a device which creates a magnetic, and very strong force field around the city. Then, with his new hord of normal agents with guns, Giganto, and a new batch of supermercnaries, he is planing the slow and delibret elimination of eveyone in the city besides Terror Incorprated. Can the heros survive long enougth to find a way to turn…

I'm in the process of ramping up for a Champions campaign with a bunch of people who are brand new to the Hero System and have varying experience with roleplaying in general. In our last campaign (which was a 3rd Ed. D&D fantasy campaign) there was some problems/ill-will because some of the people knew the gaming system significantly better than others and there were some exchanges like this: Player A: OK, I attack with my bow. GM: OK, roll...a 9...you just miss. Player B: OK, I take aim for a full round to get the +2 to hit bonus. Player A: What?!? I didn't know you could do that. I would have done that if I had known! Since my main goal in getting…

Okay, as some of you know by now I have started a thread of four way battles, between three different teams of champions (4th, 5th, and C:NM) also throwing the guardians, these are the future matches I have planned, any comments on changing them or the order they should be in would be welcome... I'm playing around with a character concept of a teleporter who creates "gates" which normal objects can pass through. One aspect of this idea is to have a defense reflex where if the character can see an attack coming, he can open a gate between himself and the attack and cause it to teleport from in front of him to behind him. In a lot of ways, this is like Missle Deflection, or a limited Desolid, only to avoid taking damage from certain attacks. The problem is that Missle Deflection would cause the character to sacrifice actions to apply this defense, and the Desolid would cause the character to buy Affects real world with all his attacks. This is the character's p…

What is would scare a brick more? As I have mentioned before I am running a campaign consisting of mostly brick type characters. And although I am not having any problems dealing with that kind of power in the group. I do want to keep the pressure turned up and at lest keep them worried. So I have am designing a brick to be part of there next super powered run in. So my question is all about what you folks think is intimidating. Or what would intimidate your brick style character more in any random campaign, just in terms of special effect? 1- Said NPC brick jumping in the middle of the party and screaming maniacally and emitting a sickly green light the en…

I’ve recently restared a Golden Age WW2 campaign. Unfortunately this happened about the same time I was assigned a major project at work. Long story short, I could really use some plot seeds, story ideas, or interesting real world incidents that might be spun in to an adventure. Here is what we’ve done so far: Characters: 250 pt, built 150 + 100 disads, (light on disads so as to make the chr.s seem a bit simpler than there angsty modern counterparts.) A beginning Captain America A beginning Batman American Eagle, a silver age alien Hawkman cop The Catwoman, golden age thief turned agent of the US for the duration of the war Amazon, anothe…

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. However, I'm interested in playing a character similar to the T-1000 from Terminator 2. He's an alien construct sent to infiltrate worlds as a spy. He was built from the hardest substance in the universe, the plasma from a star going supernova. I haven't played Hero in a long time and am relearning 5th edition rules. My problem is trying to build my interpretation of this character within 350 points. The caps are 12 DC and 30 defenses. I don't like the idea of building a rookie character and building him over time. Why can't I just build the character I want as long as he meets the campaign caps? Anyway,…
