I was musing over something I remembered from the first X-Men movie... Mystique had shapeshifted into a Wolverine duplicate and they had a fight. She had the claws, but since they weren't adamantium he sliced right through them (causing her to shriek in pain, of course!). But this got me to thinking: what if you had a really consummate shapeshifter... one who could duplicate certain powers that basically came from the limbs of people they were duplicating? The GM might rule that Wolverine's claws can't be properly duplicated as they're metal, but Sabertooth's could. Or Nightcrawler's tail. Or Angel's wings. Obviously this is a VPP, but it seems like it would nee…

Looking at CKC it seems that the Villains in general are not too tough. Even when subject to their own maximum damage output most would go down in one hit. Even standard level super heros with up to 80 AP powers and PD,ED in the range of around 20 (say up to 30 for bricks) would not stay up long against equally powered characters. My impression from comic books was that nobody went around using their full potential all the time. So my thinking is that in order for battles to last longer than a few phases there has to be some holding back. Why? The villains are arrogant and don't feel the need to give it their all. The heros want something more than bloo…

Greetings all, I am starting up a Champions game locally between friends, and I have a questions about the "range" of an effect. This is a standard Supers game, btw. The character is basically a super-powered physician/surgeon with Sense, Ranged, Analyze, Discriminatory Life Energy. The charcter also has the appropriate medical skills for a doctor and paramedic. (Yes, there are other powers, but they are not applicable to the question.) The question becomes, besides the obvious, what can and cannot be determined about a person with this detect? Obviously, the heroine can tell if a person is alive or dead, and probably if a person is undead. Howeve…

In the June issue of Game Trade Magazine we ran a Hulk promo. Champions, Silver Age Sentinels, Marvel, and Mutants and Masterminds each gave you their versions of the green monstrosity. Each written by their respective publishers, so this is as close to "official" as you get. Have you seen it? What are your impressions? If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? Go to your local retail store and ask for a copy of the June issue of Game Trade Magazine today!

I have an upcoming Champions session scheduled for the end of the month, and I need some help designing a death trap for the PC heroes. Basically I need a death trap that the heroes walk into. They cannot be drugged or knocked out, then placed into said death trap. They must walk into it, like a room that seals it self, then the walls begin closing in on them, etc. The death trap must be able to withstand super strength (60 STR), teleportion, flight, and tunneling. I'm looking for a trap which will delay the heroes for a short while and force them to use their brains to get out of it, not necessarily brute force. Can any of you guys and gals out there throw…

In 2005+, when you are ready to update the Champions Universe I have a couple of suggestions. I really like the sidebar notes in USPD, and I think a book design around this idea would be a great idea. Call it something like UNTIL Meta-Human Field Guide, and include in it. 1. Updated version of the Champions (with +50-100 points of experience). 2. Updated timeline. 3. In the villian section, have some revised villians (For Experience, also some villian change powers alot in the comics book), and add new villians if you have any good ideas. I also would also like to see some Field notes similar to USPD in this section. 4. If you have not published Strongho…

I was just wondering if anyone has come up with Hero 5e stats for the various characters from the Mutants and Masterminds scenario "Time of Crisis"? (Yes I'm a lazy GM hoping to save some time)

I love the new rules for Change Environment! I was just wondering what kinds of cool things all you guys have been doing with the new dynamics of this power. So, what have you come up with?

Here is the redo with suggestions included. I am also posting the background. (Any suggestions to help firm it up is welcomed) Jason had a very good childhood. He had two loving Parents and an over protective older brother. He had plenty of friends and was doing well in school. Three months after his eighth birthday, His parents and older brother were in an automobile accident. The result left him an orphan. For the next few years, Jason was bounced from foster home to foster home. Parents who didn’t seem to want a child more than some free labor around the house. And some parents who had no idea what they were doing. Some parents wanted to…

Hey guys, I am writing a character and I would like to know how you would do the following power. I have a few ideas of my own but I rather have you tell me how YOU would do it to give me extra inspiration... The character (a brick) is powered by some kind of energy. The energy gives him fairly high stats (uh well... brick level you know). However, he can you the energy to do all sort of neat tricks placed in a multipower. When he uses a power from his multipower he has instant access to the power (as per the standrad multipower rules) but it does a few things: 1) All his energy enhanced stats drop by 10 to 15 AP (representing the fact that he needs …

Hi There, I was just wondering how GM's out there handle presence attacks against their super-heroes...is it just me or is rather "unheroic" for a character to be humbled this way? If the PRE attack is successful do you just "take control" of that character until its effect wears off? Thanks for your help/advice.

Last night a friend of mine discover an online game called City of Heroes. While searching its forum he came upon following discussion on origins. From there, he discovered a page with general character development. So it got me wondering about superhero specific questions to help develop a character. The only one I have come up with so far is…. If someone made an exact clone of your character right down to your memories, how would you react? Would you hate him or treat him as a brother? Since we've had fun and games compiling a list of super names, I thought it might be useful if we began constructing a list of super team names. So to start with, these are from my campaigns: Hero Groups The Unknown Street Justice Stormfront (loose federation of vigilantes led by the character Storm) EuroGuard Team UK The Paladins (WW2 international super alliance) The New Paladins (1950s superteam) Project Tricolour - French superteam League of Patriots Villain Groups SHOCK - Super Humans Opposing Christ's Kingdom (Satanic villain group Dragon Circle, the Armada - Spanish criminal alliance HeadHunters .. there have been othe…

There are lots of threads with character sheets. I thought a thread to help with backgrounds might be nice. Here is a background of another of my characters. I want help fleshing it out and seeing If I left the character open for evil GM's. (I hate it when a GM looks at my character and grins) BACKGROUND As all young children, Mindy had a normal childhood. Going to school, playing with friends and doing all the things a child does. She was your normal little kid till the age of 12. At age 12 her back and upper shoulders grew malformations. Mindy was able to hide it for a few weeks under baggy and lose shirts. When her parents found out about the g…

I've known several of these. The first was mine, an elven fighter, (her highest stat a 14 and average of 9) who could NOT fire a bow into melee that included teammates without hitting the teammate, or worse, his special paladin warhorse.... She also never once made her 90% elven resistance to Enc/Charm/Sleep spells. However she also could not be hit in melee combat. The DM of the time had a capture scenario once, hordes of rats that gradually whitled down the team to unconsciousness fairly quickly, all but me. After several hours of this the rats are almost all dead, hundreds of them and he grabs some robed miniatures and has me save versus Sleep... Always wondered …

...every month, Game Trade Magazine did an article using the various Superhero Systems to simulate the Cool Game/Character of the month? Seeing the Hulk done for Hero 5th, Marvel, SAS, and M&M was interesting. It'd be fun, be cool to see how different systems take different characters. Next month...hm...how about either Hellboy or an anime character?

I began this character during one of our "high DEX/normal DEX" discussions. My basic concept was, "What if someone else got ahold of Doctor Octopus' tentacles?" In this case, that someone is Eddie Perretti, a Danny Kaye/Fred Astaire wannabe whose career hasn't gone so well since musicals went out of fashion. Too bad, since he really is a good actor and singer despite his monumental ego. He stumbled upon the villain Cuttlefish's spare set of arms and decided becoming a superhero would be a good way to boost his career. Now he's sought not only by the angry criminal but the police as well, who think he's Cuttlefish. Please let me know what you think. Name: D…

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I am wondering where (on-line or in the Seattle, WA area) you all get your miniatures for use with Champions? Ideally, I'm looking for a decent selection of semi-generic heroes (maybe a caped, un-caped and brick for each sex) as well as a few guys in business suits (corporate types are the true villians, heh heh) and goons (uniformed as well as plain clothes). Any thoughts? Thanks. Chris

Hey, guys. I need your help! I could have sworn that I saw a power in a Hero sourcebook that detailed Teleportation through reflective surfaces, a la the Mirror Master. I thought it was in the UNTIL Power's book, but I couldn't find it on second glance. Does anyone know where this power appeared? Thanks in advance!
