I'm working on a new character. Attached is his picture and below is his origin. I have a vague idea of what powers he might have but haven't cemented anything yet. Creative group that you are, I thought you might have suggestions. Here's the origin of Monochrome (aka Captain Video): ----------------------------- In the 1950s, Captain Video was popular host of a national TV show. But like all pop culture icons, he faded from memory except in the hearts and minds of a small but loyal following. The man who played the Captain slowly became infirmed and spent many years in a nursing home, anonymously living out his waning years. While visiting another p…

World War 2 super heroics seem quite popular, as do some pulp in the Pre WWII years. I wonder... breaking it down decade by decade after that... has anyone played a Champions game based in: 1950s- Does a world that wants a "return to Normalcy" have a place for super heroes? What of the McCarthy era? Would our super heroes be put on trial for being "unAmerican"? 1960s- From Flower power to space exploration, Civil Rights, and Vietnam. It would certainly be colorful. Would there be a 'generation gap' even among Super heroes? 1970's- Remembered chiefly for three things, "lack of taste, lack of taste and lack of taste" , it also had the Watergate Scandal, The Bicentenia…

I had this idea for a neat NPC. But I have no idea how to make the powers. The Pied Piper. Music is in everything. In every motion, in all things, the beat of music is present. That beat is hypnotic, or can be; it stirs the soul, the heart, the mind. The Pied Piper is essentially a walking Musical. He's a sound manipulator and an illusionist, but that sound he uses to compel and control his audiance. Imagine The Mask, less cartoonish, more Lounge Lizard. He does all forms of music, to a punk metal rage of sound, to a captivating, seducing Rat Pack singer, the Diva pouring her soul into the music, the Rapper drawing in the rhythm. He essentially is a …

Hey all, I wanted a powerful mystic antagonist as a Tier 2 NPC (not world-threatening, but formidable). I ended up lifting Talisman and adapting her by tacking on a couple of hundred points of extra powers. I renamed the character and her background is different to fit my storyline. I intend to use her as a sometimes-ally sometimes enemy Loki type character. Ultimately selfserving, but possibly helpful when it suits her ends. I wanted her to have more odd-ball and story driving powers so I tacked on a few 'allows-for-plausible-story-hooks' powers more than combat ability. I also wanted her to be an independent player to be reckoned with, so I upped her INT and …

Cliche? Nah, Lawyers are evil, though they can redeem themselves by helping the gaming industry Here's some ideas for a Lawyer in your group. Mako - After arranging for a corporation to 'legally' take an island from some native families, this guy was cursed by their head mystic to have his nature match his soul. Being a Lawyer, he naturally was cursed into a were shark. He was appalled at first (He went through a lot of suits, and blood is hard to get off the ones that survived) but he's since learned the advantage of having opposing witnesses disapear. Loophole - A teleporting Lawyer, who used his powers to gather (And take) evidence on more than one…

The question is What level of stereotyping are you comfortable with in you game. I don't think that anybody is going to disagree that making a villain called Blood Nazi and making him a sadistic killer is going to offend anybody, but how comfortably would you be in your game with concepts or names that bordered on what some folks would classify as racist/sexist/homophobic/ect? Probably nobody would be too awful offended by an Irish character named "Lucky Lass" with luck manipulation and shamrocks on her green costume, but how comfortable would you be with a Mexican character that could shoot out a slippery substance and called himself Greaser? How about an …

I'm trying to help a player flesh out a character. He's a manhunter/dark detective that started in the Silver Age, complete with Rogue's Gallery. When one of his Rogue's goes too far, he ends up killing her (this is going to be one of the events that heralds the Bronze Age in the campaign ala The Death of Gwen Stacy), and hangs up the cape. Needless to say he's going to come out of retirement for the campaign. So I'm looking for ideas for this type of character. I've gone through all the typical themes (raptor, knight, bat, cat, etc.), and am drawing a blank. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Demo Demo has an accelerated cellular structure from the unlocking of his mutant genome. As a result, it has made his reactions and synapic processes extremely quick. At SPD 9, he falls into the category of speedster. His true power comes from his love of bombs. He served in the US Marine Corp Demolitions Squad until he was discharged. His superior officers thought that his obsession with explosives was 'creepy'. He joined up with VITAL, a superhuman organization destined to cause as much havoc in the world as possible. During a routine terrorist mission, Demo accidently detonated a bomb too soon and he was killed in the blast. He woke up in the morgue t…

I would like some suggestions on how to make a normal flame thrower, and how to determine if an object has caught on fire.

Does anyone have good/bad experiences with campaign backgrounds that caused major changes to the world before play began? I'm talking about changes extreme enough that overly sensitive people might be offended. I'm in the process of updating an old campaign. Originally superhumans were created in 1985 and the campaign began in 1995. Now it's 1992/2002 so I just shifted events ahead seven years in most cases. I've lost thing like Desert Storm and the Soviet Union's collapse, but I've made do. In August 1997 a superhuman with flame powers (Human Torch clone) went on a PCP rampage through downtown Miami. Turns out he had a version of Nova Flame. Construction of New Mia…

this is one of many I am actually having a hard time trying to create, but this one is the one I can think of right now. I want to create a magical power in which I am capable of firing off one arrow and then in mid flight the arrow splits up into three or five other arrows. All hit the target, but using the hero system how can this power be created?

Hello I’m new to the Hero system and I’m thinking about starting a 5th addition game Champion . The Game will be based on the Avengers from the Marvel Universe. I’ve made the write ups on all the main characters expect Captain America. I would really like to write him up as high powered as possible and still stay to Marvel’s limits on him. My friends and I have a debate about how he should be . So if any one could post a good high end version of Cap. that would be Great! Thank you very much for your help. Kaladur

Hi. [smiles] I recently reregistered to the boards, and I've been a long time fan of HERO. I've been trying to build a certain character (for fun), and I'm not sure about the new 5th ed duplication rules? I was wondering if anyone might know the answer to this question: It says their is a +1 multiplier to the cost of Duplication if the duplicates are different from the main. Well..the main is a metahuman with all the powers of the three counterparts (the third person is handled via multiform but that's not relevant to the question. Just for clarification). But the other two are created through duplication. I'm using duplication as a 'special' effect as how all …

Working on a character who was a Detroit firemen during the Battle of Detroit. He realized that a lot of people could have been saved if rescue personnel could have survived in some of the conditions the victims were trapped in (high radiation, intense heat, etc). So he goes to engineering school and comes up with a suit of powered armor (I love Comic Book Science!) that will allow a fireman to rescue someone in virtually any environment. I've been toying with ATLAS (All-Terrain L Armored System) but can't come up with anything for the 'L'. Also, I'm not set on the name and would be open to suggestions. Thanks in advance to the learned panel for the ideas.

For my next game, I would really like to present a piece of artwork to my players to cap off the cliffhanger ending I have in mind. However, the piece of art is fairly esoteric. What I'm wondering is if anyone could help me find, either drawn or photoraphed, a picture of a woman, preferably older, that is being used as a hostage. IE: Tied down to a chair, maybe gagged, or something similar. The cliffhanger involves the picture of a players Mother surfacing with a ransom note, so having the picture will only add to the shock value. Can anyone help me with this?

How would you build this? My current design for the character includes some skills (Criminology and a host of sciences, mostly from Dark Champions) and a retrocog power built like so: Sight and hearing group clairsentience; Retrocognition Only(-1), Requires a Skill Roll (Criminology, -1/2), Reduced by Time (-1/2) I don't think that the character should be able to see faces of people in the reconstruction; should that be an additional disadvantage? The skill penalties associated with the time steps seem pretty brutal -- if the character arrives at a crime scene two hours afterwards, the skill roll is -8 (if I read the time chart right), but I don't know that it…

I guess the topic line says (asks) it all. I couldn't get to it today. Yours is one of my favorite art sites, it'd be dearly missed if it's gone permanently.

I did not play the Hero System before Fred came out. I had never even heard of Champions. However, I am curisous about these older versions. What if I was simply interested in playing a nice Silver Agey supers game? Do I need the highl level of detail Fred (and to the same extent) the BBB offer me? Would it be simpler to get an earlier version of Champions? And if so, which one?

Defently, there are a few legiodary villians I have herd about, but have never spoted a writup on. Holocost was one of them. With this, my hopes have been tingled. Will we ever see: 1) The Lavender Fog: Homosexual master villian/mutant who is able to transform himself into a cloud of lavender mist. Can also generate a lavender mist (Darkness). Basicly an openly gay, flamboyant type. Quote: "Tie him to the Pleaser Bar, Brutus." 2) Blond Bombshell: A martial artist girl who can explode. Forcently, later writups are said to include Desolification linked to the explosion (or is that personal imunity?). Proably will never see one, because of who created her (hint: He…

He's mentioned in Champions Universe and in Conquerors', Villains and Crooks, but there isn't a write up for him. In CKC, his entry is in boldface indicating a character sheet, but unfortunately he isn't. Where can I find his 5E stats?
