I get an error in HD where it crashes. I have found out why it crashes but not why it crashes. Removing the appReq (i think that's the file name) seems to do the trick. But, if I open a certain HDC file, it corrupts again. If I recreate the character from scratch, I think it will recreate the issue (the first time I wrote it in HD, it had a similar problem but not as extensive problem). The file is not binary, a simple xml text file. There are no viruses in it as far as I can tell (scans clean by virustotal.com). I've posted it in support under #1775.

I feel like I'm going insane. I swear that I saw rifle scopes in a Hero Designer prefab somewhere, but now I can't find them at all. I also swear that the prefab had different selections based on the kind of sight (fixed iron sight, micrometer, etc.). I have the 6e HS Equipment Guide prefabs, and the Pulp HERO prefabs, but I can't find it in either of these sets. Has anyone else seen this prefab? Please help assure me I'm not mad!

Hi. I'm new to the system, and the program, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. Is there a way to do armor, like a piece of equipment, and show how it only covers certain areas of the body? It's a resistance defense for both physical and energy. I was thinking just having a PD and ED characteristic increase, with the resistance advantage and the real armor limitation. But I'm not sure if that's the right way to do it, or how to do it only covering certain parts of the body.

After some discussion about the rules in a different forum, I now have a question about HERO Designer's application of that rule. Here's a dagger that I got from the HS Equipment Guide prefab: Dagger:HKA 1d6 (1d6+1 w/STR), Range Based On STR (+¼), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +½) (26 Active Points); OAF (-1), Real Weapon (-¼), STR Minimum 4 (-¼), Beam (-¼). The character who has this dagger, however, doesn't increase Damage Classes at the rate of +1DC per 5 STR. It has changed to +1 per 6 STR. The rule on 6e2 97 says to include Advantages that directly affect damage, and in this case Range Based On STR and Reduced Endurance are not on that list of Advantages. S…

I’m fiddling around with an export template in HERO Designer for a Martial Arts. The goal is to have an RTF output of maneuvers and non-maneuvers, some within lists based on a specific style of martial art, and some not in lists (chosen à la Carter in a mixed martial arts sort of way). I’d like each list to have a heading based on the name of the martial art, but without the title being shown as a list item with the cost of zero. Then I’d like to have the mixed stuff headed by the title “Other” in order to clarify that it is not part of a particular style. Hello, I`ve tried to build a sentient vehicle with the vehicle template in HERO Designer - but I failed. I will do it the old way, using pen and paper. But is there a way I haven`t seen yet to combine something like an AI and a Vehicle into a single HD file? Or are the templates just too specific for such a build? What steps do I have to do for a reverse engineering with a regular character or automaton template? Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm using version 20190408 of HD, and I'm running into an odd linking issue. I have two abilities that are linked to Spatial Awareness: Weapon Master and Detect Evil. The program doesn't give me any warnings or forbids me from linking to Spatial Awareness, but it seems to "forget" the link after I save the file and close it. When I open the file from a saved copy, it shows Linked (???; -1/2). If I go into the ability and relink it, it's fine again while I'm working on it. It then forgets again after closing the saved file. I've tried linking these two abilities to other abilities that offer the same Limitation value, and it still forgets the link a…

Hero Designer has the option to "Print to PDF" which creates a fantastic character sheet that resembles the default sheet in the back of the 6e book. There are only a couple things I'd want to add to this (such as headings for Perks and Talents). Is there a template associated with this that can be modified a little bit to fit what I have in mind?

I encountered the "unspecified error" while trying to unpack the MHI Character pack for Hero Designer, after a bit of frustrated searching discovered that the Windows 10 default compressed file management doesn't deal well with the compression format the charpacks use. I downloaded 7-zip, extracted the files where I wanted them with no issues. Only posting on here because I never found (easily anyway) anyone else's experience that talked about that.

This is a strange one, but it is reproducible...I'm not sure if it's just me using HD incorrectly or a bug but I figured I would report it. I also understand that Time Limit can be an Advantage or a Limitation depending on the power but this happens on the same power. For the record, I'm using the 20190210 build. I have now been fumbling around trying to build a vehicle template that includes support for mental stats, I've figured out how to build the stats themselves (I think), but I have no idea if I'm going to need to rebuild entire pages to get them to work properly and figure a good way to check would be refrencing the templates I'm extending. Problem: I can't find where the built-in templates are located. My worst fear is that they're locked inside the Jar and, while I do have a tool that can rip it open, I would really rather not have to go hunting. It seems that there are some rather nasty updates to either Windows itself or Java running under Windows that is removing the file association for .jar files for a number of users. It is not clear at this time why this is happening, but it is preventing people from running HD by double-clicking on the HD6.jar file (or any shortcut they've created). I'll use this thread for troubleshooting this issue with folks -- the fix information in this post will be edited as needed to help out. I was hoping to put a negative, levelled adder on HKA. It works as a Custom Adder. I can see how it works with Modifiers. I can't seem to get it to work though - even when I essentially copy a modifier across. Is this possible? Thanks Tim Smith

I downloaded some characters here a long time ago and thought nothing of it. Some were just rtf files and some were hdc files. I looked at a few and noted that there were some from somebody's campaign called the Top Ten campaign, some were movie, TV, and comic book characters, and some were even based on song lyrics. There were a lot of them and I thought they would be good inspiration for original characters of my own. So, they sat there for years just taking up disk space as I ran other campaigns. Every time I go to edit my character in hero designer it acts as if it opens the editing window however nothing opens up and I find myself unable to go back or anything so I have to shut the program down from my task manager. I already have uninstalled and reinstalled java and cleaned out my computer using various cleaning and updating programs. not sure where to go from here

Every so often I'll be working on a power or skill, have it open, Alt-Tab out to check something, and when I Alt-Tab back in the program is stuck. Hard to describe, but it's like the program still works, but the sub-window (ie power or skill I was working on), stops responding. I can't click, enter text, anything. However, the program is still running, because if I try and click close on the main window the sub-window flashes like it needs me to OK/cancel. The best way I can say to recreate part of the issue is to do just that; open a power/skill/etc and instead of clicking on it, click on the main window behind it - that's the flashing I get. Standard Autofire is 2, 3, or 5 shots. I've got a power that I want 4 shots (that will be in a predefined pattern box pattern), so I selected 5 shots and edited the box so that it says 4 shots. But when it comes to display the power in the it says 5 shots. I can edit the text as a work-around, but this seems strange. I guess this would stop me from purchasing a x2 shots and editing it to say 37 shots, but it seems strange to be able to edit the text and not actually have it display in the build. Thanks!
