So, USPS Informed Delivery showed a few things arriving. One was the bill for the blood tests from my annual a few weeks ago. Knew that was likely coming, didn't know when. Another was a check from the state. Huh...did I mess up the state return and miss a deduction? That would be nice... Of course, advance expectation is that the second will be smaller than the first, right? Well...the check was a $250 tax rebate the state's sending to everyone due to the recent economic strains. How nice!! I never knew. Like I said, I suppose I should pay more attention to local news. And even better? The bill was much le…

Andy Fletcher of Depeche Mode has died. Andy and Vince Clarke were the start of the band and then Martin Gore and Dave Gahan joined. After Vince left the songwriting was mainly Martin and Dave. Andy handled things like management which the other members did not want to do. I consider myself fortunate to see them live once. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-61597992 RIP

This will be a simple game. We will start with a word then someone will change the word by changing one letter or adding or removing one letter. Each resultant word must be a recognized word. That is all there is to this game. Lets see how much run we can have with our crazy language. First word: pass

I was first introduced to his music through Carl Sagan's Cosmos series. And then there was Chariots of Fire. From this foundation, I bought a LOT of his music and was always left marveling at what I'd heard. To learn years later that he'd never learned to read music and that he pretty much recorded as he was creating made it all the more impressive to me. His music has inspired me, comforted me, moved me. It has helped define the person I am today. Rest In Peace, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou. I have mentioned this before but am prepared to run this in July or August of this year. It would be like the World Creation draft but with differences if we are comparing drafts The main pick would be a location. This could be country, city etc but it is crucial to each player as his choices revolve around it. The other pick I am settled on is a leader or chief figure associated with location I don't want to go the route of picking 5 heroes or villains to form a team so that is out. One potential option is the Why would you go there pick. So you have a city big deal, what is so different about it that someone would want to vi…

New league year began March 17th. Less than impressed with the way the Bengals spent the 5th most cap money so far. A bunch of average guys basically. One impressive signing - CB Mike Hinton is a steal and he was pulled away from the Steelers. We did manage to get an ok OT with Riley Reiff. Although, he is better than the 'matadors' we have on the line right now. We FINALLY got rid of the worst OT in the league - Bobby Hart - so addition by substraction I always say! Weirdly, we also got rid of the worst QB in the league, Ryan Finley. Better yet, we somehow got the Texans to trade for him. This could be proof that the Texans are now the worst run team …

Although there are many on this board that I would consider Bad Mutha’s (I’m just talkin’ ‘ bout Shaft) in their own right. I would like to wish any of the actual Mothers here whether they are genetically connected to their children or not a most happy day.

George Perez has posted that his cancer has reached critical mass This really hit me hard because I'm going through the end of this story right now. I'm watching my step-father go through the same. He suffered a few minor strokes a few weeks ago. He's been dealing with prostate cancer for a decade and the last round of radiation treatments did f' all and so the plan was to comfort him and start hospice when it looked like it was time. We (the kids) all gathered for Thanksgiving this year, and dad, unable to talk well was vibrant and laughing taking part in the telling of tales where he could and miming when he couldn't find the words. …

Fan-made animated Batman film, written and animated by Stephen Trumble. Original score by Claire Wickes. Starring Brian Vaughan, David Trumble, Sylvie Nightingale, Bronwyn Sweeney, Calum Carpenter. Special sound design by John Moros. A much better than average Batman Story, where Batman is true to character, doing his Detective thing at the start.

Anyone else geeking out about the new MST3K Gizmoplex and Season 13? I love that we're going to be able to stream all 150+ available classic episodes on-demand, for free, finally. (Available = episodes that the movie rights owners haven't clawed back.) And as a backer of the Kickstarter, it's been fun watching them pull it all together and experiment with their Season 13 livestreams. Anyone else looking forward to the public launch of Season 13 and the Gizmoplex tomorrow?

The Article At 13th Dimension I had heard it said that if superheroes were real, they'd look just like they were drawn by Neal Adams. It's an assertion with which I'm strongly inclined to agree. Rest You Well, Sir. You shall be dearly missed.

It all started innocently enough. It was just another little war in Eastern Europe, happens all the time. But in this case, the ‘president’ of the invading nation decided that if he couldn’t have his prize, nobody would. He ordered the release of all kinds of weapons of mass destruction - chemical weapons, biological agents, dirty bombs, even a tactical nuclear strike. Retaliatory strikes quickly followed, and then strikes in retaliation for those strikes. Allies got involved, and then allies of allies. In less than 48 hours, the world’s human population was reduced by something like 95%. Now, twenty years later, the world is a mess. Large parts of the contine…

Highly recommended! I don't binge watch things, but every episode ended on a cliffhanger, and I just couldn't stop until I'd finished. I especially liked that tabletop RPGs were very prominent. While videogames and even CCGs have been positively shown on TV, tabletop rpgs are usually played by people who either accidentally summon a demon or violently lose touch with reality. (granted, those examples were LARPers.) Okay, I did roll my eyes when their setting book actually proved useful, but still it was a nice change of pace. Demogorgon indeed. And wow, Winona Ryder was absolutely convincing as a mother on the edge of madness. All the actors did a g…

Unlike the other thread, the episode in question doesn't necessarily have to be well-written, well-produced and/or well-acted (though I imagine favorites will typically feature above-average writing, production values and acting).

So the brackets are being released as I type this. The local team (NMSU)...co-champs during the season, they said, and won their tournament...got a 12 seed. Quite good for a 1 bid league. And *the* seed for upset purposes...12's beat 5's with amazing frequency, 33%. By comparison, 13's beat 4's only 21% of the time, and 11's beat 6's only 37% of the time. The 12's are frequently underseeded, it looks like. In the 2nd round, the 12's are 9-3 against 13's...but also 13-29, 31% versus the 4 seed. Now there's some tweaks to this. The NCAA restructured things a few years ago. There's 4 play-in games; it's a 68 team tourney. What they did is the…
