I feel the need to spew random thoughts onto a public board from time to time so I thought I'd start up a thread to do it. Of course everyone else is welcome to spew here also--the only rule is that you cannot reply to someone else's post. Each post should have as little to do with the others as possible.

We have threads for quotes from games, books, movies, etc. But I think there should be a thread for quotes from life. With or without context. Things you have said or heard yourself, that were not directly lifted from gaming or fiction. From my divorce: My wife: "It's not just a sex thing with you, is it? It's a romantic thing." Me: "You've only now understood that? I always thought it was something that went without saying." After a silence - Me: "It's taken me seven years to realize, that you and I speak a completely different language of the heart." Lucius Alexander Many palindromedary taglines would probably qualify for this thread....

Inspired by Enforcer's comment on another thread: So, well, here is a "nice happy thread" meant to be used only for "nice happy" things.

We just wrapped up 2022 with a Superdraft—the first we've ever run in December, if memory serves correctly—so I guess it's time to begin talking about 2023. If no one has any objections, I have an idea for one in January. I would start it on the 9th. If any of you have one you would like to run later in the year, tell me when and we'll keep it updated here. Sound good?

I know almost everyone has Winamp (or the equivalent) cranked up most of the time when they're online. So, what are you listening to? Right now, I'm listening to: "A Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash. "My name is Sue! How DO you DO? Now you're gonna die!"

The first round of the NFL Draft is tonight, and although my team isn't participating this evening, I figured it was time. First story of the new thread actually involves news announced yesterday: Peyton Manning announces scholarship endowment in memory of Demaryius Thomas

WARNING: The contents of this thread may be too disturbing or terrifying for some people. If you have a low PRE score and/or are easily squicked out, now would be a good time to head for the exit. If you're at the office right now, we cannot guarantee that everything here will be 100% work-safe, so please use discretion. Just walking out of the theater. Every bit as good as the first one, probably because they took it in a totally different direction from the first rather than trying to give us more of the same. Perhaps Police Academy taught some folks that more of the same will never have the fresh surprise of being what it is for the first time. Just like the first one, Darla gets the best line in the movie.

I've been binging on this topic and I want to start a thread to talk about it. For an article: OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 is a new illustration of AI bias - Vox. These programs are similar in a way to Jukebox for music or GPT3 for text. They don't photobash existing pictures, but they draw on patterns they've learned to associate with certain words. And they're fun! just pop in a few words and get instant gratification. I don't have access to Dall-E, but Midjourney just went to open beta, and I've been having fun with that. Questions: Will this be impactful at all? I saw a few musicians 'collaborate' with Jukebox, taking inspiration from Jukebox…

Everybody likes jokes. Here is a thread to post your favorite or most recently heard jokes. Here's one I heard today: A woman takes a lover home during the day while her husband is at work. Her 9-year old son comes home unexpectedly, sees them and hides in the bedroom closet to watch. The woman's husband also comes home. She puts her lover in the closet, not realizing that the little boy is in there already. The little boy says, "Dark in here." The man says, "Yes, it is." Boy - "I have a baseball." Man - "That's nice." Boy - "Want to buy it?" Man - "No, thanks." Boy - "My dad's outside." Man - "OK, how much?" Boy - "$250" In the next few weeks, it…

From Enforcer84's idea. Mention one thing you believe to be true about the most recent poster, and then add a complete and total lie, to make that poster appear to be more complicated. Well, it might not work, but give it a try. Enforcer84 - Not only is he a fine player and a good guy to hang out with, but Enforcer84 also has the largest single collection of lawn ornaments in North America.

The Hermit “Mark?” Jane Hillsmierer paused in the outline of the door frame around her. She reached for the switch one side of the door. She had learned to distrust the dark. “It’s me, Jane.” “I’m here, Janie.” A lamp cut on, casting a glow on a work table. Mark Hadron sat so she couldn’t see his face. “Why are you sitting in the dark?” She placed her hands in front of her. “What brings you by, Janie?” Mark shifted slightly in the shadow. “The business is closed.” “I think you need to think about reopening it.” Jane stepped forward. “I got a warning from Nobody. Another rip is coming.” “It will have to happen without the Lamplighters.” Mark turn…

If you reveal some juicy plot details, please make good use of the SPOILER notification to avoid ruining someone else's pleasure... For me, "Something from the Nightside" by Simon R. Green stands out. Fast paced urban fantasy with interesting characters. Sequel is "Agents of Light and Darkness". I give it an "8" out of 10.

This is a companion thread to the other "What Science Fiction/Fantasy Book...." thread but focused on fiction that doesn't fit into those other two categories. The purpose of this thread is to give opinions on recently finished fiction books so that readers can investigate those books posters like and possibly save money/time/frustration by avoiding books posters don't like. However, beauty (or ugliness) is in the eye of the beholder. One poster's "all-time-favorite" book may be another poster's "piece of wretched crap". So please keep in mind the subjective nature of the topic. Also, please use the [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler] tags as a courtesy to potentia…

THe world of illustration has been roiled these past four months by the release of Dall-E, and Stable Diffusion since. Charges of art theft, due to the researchers scraping publiucally posted art, and photographs, up to 5 billion images, without regards to ownership, and getting to the point, that the text prompts can specify a certain artist's style, have generated protests on gallery sites and concept art boards, across the net. However, a court precedent has decided that only humans and human generated art can be protected. Therefore A.I. generated art, is automatically in the public domain.

Since Who's line is it anyways? has been the subject of much discussion (okay, SOME discussion) why not try it here? Someone picks a subject/scene, three posters respond to it by writing an example out, and the third one also creates a new subject. Other than that, we wing it. First Scene: The wrong thing to say on a first date

Well since Mr. P kicked off the NFL thread, I'll get the college thread. Preseason polls are about as full of meaningful comments as afternoon talk radio, but still...the preseason picks are Next Verse, Same as the Rest. Bama, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson. Hey, maybe one of em won't live up to expectations. Asking for 2 of em to fall flat...that's a bridge too far. Scary...the very lightweight first week...even called "Week 0" in the schedule on si.com...has 10 games, largely non-entities...and it's Aug. 27th. GAH!!!! Not ready for football. Nevada's actually coming down to play the Aggies that weekend. No game time listed yet..…
