Yesterday marked six years of me never having to pretend to be a guy again, and today, like every March 31st, is International Transgender Day of Visibility, so it's a double celebration for me. Being visible as a trans person is important to me for two main reasons. For one, to remind non LGBTQ+ folks that people like me exist and are real people who are part of their communities. The other reason is to help older trans people who think that they're too old to transition know that it's never too late. I started my transition at fifty-two and it's still the best thing I've ever done for myself. So, like the title says, happy Trans Day of Visibility…

If you reveal some juicy plot details, please make good use of the SPOILER notification to avoid ruining someone else's pleasure... For me, "Something from the Nightside" by Simon R. Green stands out. Fast paced urban fantasy with interesting characters. Sequel is "Agents of Light and Darkness". I give it an "8" out of 10.

After an emergency exit does its own exit...?? For me, right now? NO. At least not until they figure out the root cause.

From Enforcer84's idea. Mention one thing you believe to be true about the most recent poster, and then add a complete and total lie, to make that poster appear to be more complicated. Well, it might not work, but give it a try. Enforcer84 - Not only is he a fine player and a good guy to hang out with, but Enforcer84 also has the largest single collection of lawn ornaments in North America.

Inspired by Enforcer's comment on another thread: So, well, here is a "nice happy thread" meant to be used only for "nice happy" things.

I'm going to talk about my writing in this thread, but anyone should feel free to throw in their own anecdotes. I managed to flip a switch in my head recently, and I'm writing again. I'm writing a lot. On my main project, I've written over 40k words this month, with a few thousand more that I've ditched or set aside for possible future use. This makes me very happy. Quite a while back, I posted a link to the one novel I've completed. anyone who remembers that would be unsurprised to learn that my current project is about teens with super powers. The protagonist, Frank, is a character who was the antagonist in a bunch of stories I used to tell my kids at …

This is an experiment to get my ass writing again. Whether I will ever actually use this in a published work or not remains to be seen, but I need to get myself motivated and I figure trying a bit of writing here might help. This will be the roughest of Rough Drafts. I Hope folks enjoy. I'll try to write at least a paragraph each day. Let me tell you something about superhero costumes; they work best in certain situations. Most of us, superheroes that is, are in good physical shape. Even if your powers aren't physical in nature, you end up dodging, chasing (or fleeing), punching now and then, and generally working up a sweat just to get by. Some of us are blessed w…

What Fiction Book (other than Science Fiction or Fantasy) have you recently finished? 1 2 3 4 14

This is a companion thread to the other "What Science Fiction/Fantasy Book...." thread but focused on fiction that doesn't fit into those other two categories. The purpose of this thread is to give opinions on recently finished fiction books so that readers can investigate those books posters like and possibly save money/time/frustration by avoiding books posters don't like. However, beauty (or ugliness) is in the eye of the beholder. One poster's "all-time-favorite" book may be another poster's "piece of wretched crap". So please keep in mind the subjective nature of the topic. Also, please use the [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler] tags as a courtesy to potentia…

I thought this would be an Internet hoax, but evidently it isn't: the creator of the immensely popular Dragonball series of manga and anime, Akira Toriyama, has passed away at the age of 68. Even if the name is not familiar, gamers would have to have been living under very large rocks to be completely ignorant of Dragonball. Starting as a comical riff on the classic novel Journey to the West, it featured a strong but naive boy named Son Goku who is enlisted by a girl scientist to track down seven magical orbs which, when brought together, would summon the godlike dragon Shenron to grant the user one unconditional wish. Along the way, they encounter a string of…

According to the news , Akira Toriyama has passed on from a brain aneurysm at the age of 67 on March 1st, and they just reported it to the public today (Friday, March 8th). Creater of Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball, character and monster designer for Dragon Quest and Crono Trigger, among other works. He still had many unfinished works in the pipeline (Dragon Ball Super and the upcoming Dragon Ball Dai series). May I suggest trying to find your copy of the Dragon Ball Z RPG from Fusion Labs in tribute to him? Fusion is partly Hero System after all. Thank you.

It's only a couple of weeks until pitchers and catchers report, so I'm starting a new baseball thread for 2024. In our first story of the new year: 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame voting results: Adrián Beltré leads class alongside Joe Mauer and Todd Helton Helton becomes only the second Hall of Fame with the Rockies cap, following Larry Walker. It took him six years to reach the 75% threshold.

"I'm beginning to see Brooks [Robinson] in my sleep,” [Sparky] Anderson said afterward. “If I dropped a paper plate, he'd pick it up on one hop and throw me out at first.” Former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Carl Erskine once described his strategy of pitching to Musial: "I've had pretty good success with Stan by throwing him my best pitch and backing up third." Apparently the way to pitch to Hank Aaron was to make sure no one else was on base. One of the Washington Nationals TV guys once said that the way to pitch to Giancarlo (then Mike) Stanton of the Florida Marlins at Nats Park is to just go ahead and turn around & throw the ball o…
