I was going to make a big post with lots of pictures, but decided that it was a huge pain in the butt to find all that stuff. So I yoinked a couple and I'll put them here, expecting others to do the same. Criteria for this is that the gun is a bit different. Anyone can go and look up the military weapons of various eras that have been in use for some time. I'd like to see some of the different ones, though it doesn't have to be crazy. So, for my entry, I present two iterations of the S&W .500 Magnum X-Frame revolver. One is a full-on snubby, and one is a 4" barreled snubby. This is basically a big bore old-school style round for a revolver that really belong…

We're building out a new Urban Fantasy Monster Hunter campaign based in part on my old Demon Hunter: FBI setting from the Haymaker and EZHero days, and influenced heavily by the recent novel Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia. Here is the site: Here There Be Monsters. UPDATE: The site is fully fleshed out with Origins, custom Abilities and Powers such as Hex, Intervention, Invocation, Exorcism, and Supernatural Suppression, 40 sample starting characters across the five Origins of Believer, Mystic, Psychic, Innati, and Professional, 20+ NPCs (and growing), 3 "Vignette" adventures with character writes ups and plot-lines, and sundry other thin…

It seemed to work well for Richard Logue in the Star Hero forums, and I've seen it work in RPG.net, so why not here? We're at least as creative as those guys! Anyway, the idea is, imagine a hotel stocked with weird characters. They should be strange in a Twin Peaks/X-Files kind of way - they can be possibly vaguely slightly mystical (but it should never be obviously magic), or they could be vaguely slightly high-tech (in a conspiracy sort of easily-mistaken-for-something-else way), or whatever you like. The only requirement should be that they are weird characters easily captured in a few sentences. You don't have to give them names - giving them titles such as, er, …

The following collection of characters are based on various heroes, anti-heroes, and villains mentioned in assorted pop/rock/country/folk songs. I've tried to avoid adding to much to any one character, sticking mostly to what the song gives us, although I did give additional ideas in the character's Description section on things the GM might want to add. Enjoy.

If you're an anime fan, and you want an interesting take on the DC genre (guns, violence, chases, two-gun killers, organized crime, and so on), try and find something called Black Lagoon. Four people run a courier service out of Thailand using an old WWII PT Boat, the Black Lagoon (also the name of their company). They are smugglers, pirates, killers, and more. Check out the Church of Violence, a nunnery that smuggles guns. Hotel Moscow, the Russian mafia. Mr. Chan, who's Hong Kong Triad, and is Chow Yun-Fat in all but name (he has the same look and the gunfighting skills). Revy the psycho two-gun fighter from hell. Dutch the Vietnam vet and the brains behind the co…

This thread is for material that evokes a "Dark Champions" feeling. Guidelines: *Anything 1950s and onward, please. Before this, and the feel of "Pulp" becomes greater. *Near-future is okay. Too far into the future, however, and we're in Star Hero territory. ---

I have decided to start posting the old campaign logs of my best and longest running Dark Champions campaign The Omega Campaign. The Omega Team was a group of vigilantes that operated out of Hudson City. Most of the characters were originals with the exception of Nightstick who was adapted for use by one of the player-characters and Dancer who was a permanent NPC. (Both of these characters were taken from the Hudson City Blues sourcebook). Dancer was very useful for providing info to the players and as extra firepower on those night she was needed or a player was unable to attend. I made use of many published adventures during the course of this campaign (published b…

Working on a new subsite for my website, detailing a setting im calling "MetaCyber", based on a campaign I ran a few years ago. Ive got a lot of paper material to parse and write up, and some gaps to fill in. So, no real content yet, but I got the framework for the site and some general fluff material up over the last couple of days: http://www.killershrike.com/metacyber/MetaCyber.shtml

I am posting this in the Dark Champions thread since this seems to be where most of my fellow gun bunnies hang out. Anybody happy (like me) that the latest issue of the American Rifleman says the US military is going readopt the .45 caliber pistol as its standard side arm. Apparently the 9mm has been disappointing. While the 9mm has better penetration but it lacks stopping power. If you want to penetrate something you'll use a rifle anyway. The US Military has decided that stopping power is more important. The decision has been made to open bidding for a new .45 ACP Joint Combat Pistol. Apparently the US Military is looking to purchase up to 649,000 of which ever .45…

The mottos used by various (mainly military) organizations can be very useful in giving flavor to Dark Champions games. One of my favorites is "The difficult anytime. The impossible by appointment only." used by The US Navy's Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman. What are some of your favorite mottos, and have you used them in games?

Blame Edsel -- his Weekend Warriors campaign log gave me the itch to run a Dark Champions: The Animated Series game, which will have its first gaming session on Friday (7/14). The place is Hudson City, the time is now, and the characters (who are allowed to be slightly superhuman, if desired) are a female metahuman brawler named Powerhouse and a superhumanly intelligent inventor named The Sentinel. The two have experienced the pain of losing loved ones thru the actions of criminals when they were both exposed to the mutagenic effects of cosmic radiation. Now they are out to stop crime wherever they find it, or however it finds them. More details will be forthc…

Since 1867. A brief introduction to the current roster: Ainsworth Gunslinger. 'If I am away from my spread for too long, there'll be hell to pay'. Possibly a rancher. Chadron Weapon Specialist. 'I'm game! I'll open the park'. Possibly a park ranger. Dodge Martial Artist. 'Sometimes I need a break from punching numbers'. Possibly a banker. Hastings Field Medic. 'Handing out lollipops to new young patients simply isn't as fun as patching these guys up after a mission!'. Possibly a doctor. Lincoln Team Leader. 'We're not on public record.' Possibly a civil servant. Niobrara Soldier. 'Miranda? Never heard of her!' Possibly a …

I know nobody likes the way Civil War was handled, but I have to admit, I'm rather pleased that one of the outcomes is the fact that there are more sources for Dark Champions themed heroes. For those of you not in the know, following Captain America's surrender, the current membership of The New Avengers decided not to register and remain underground fugitives. The end result is that the outlaw vigilantes have to use a lot of streetwise knowledge and espionage style tradecraft (and magic courtesy of Dr Strange) to stay out of SHIELD's reach. The team is led by Luke Cage, who has recently just been using his last name as a superhero handle instead of PowerMan. Fo…

Re: Secret Worlds: Book 3 - Episode 4 Finales Ok... here's my attempt to finish up the big fight. This was a tough one to write and capture the feel that really played out well in the game. Again, this is stream of memory (faulty) and very unedited. I actually realize I wrote part of this wrong, and I'll correct it in the official story book when I get the chance. ----- 40 Seconds Previously Kovias grins and laughs in recognition and respect of Damien’s challenge. He bellows his own name in response and is a whirlwind with his tulwar. The blade spins and cuts again and again at Damien. Though it never connects, Damien is forced to slide and circl…

As usual, I see no reason not to draw on the collective knowledge of Herodom Assembled to save myself time and effort. So: What sort of guns, gun technology, and ammunition would those of you who are interested in the subject like to see in the new Dark Champions? What nifty and intriguing new guns are floating around out there that the book ought to include? What sorts of gun modifications and add-ons have you heard about that you think are worth mentioning? Have you heard about any new types of bullets that the book should have game stats for? Let me know!

I have been doing some thinking on Guns and Ammunition lately. I've always liked the Dark Champions genre as I am something of a realism nut. I did some deep digging into the Hero System Firearms damage tables (in Dark Champions 5e incidentally). What I found was a more or less true correlation of Muzzle Energy to Damage Classes. Each Damage Class is supposed to represent double the Energy (in Joules) of the previous. This is fairly well represented in the table (with the occasional stray). I was thinking of a way to further break down Damage to add some flavor to Firearms Damage Classes. First I guess I should share my findings. Firearms Damage …

I have read that cyberpunk, in the 1980's and somewhat, the 1990's, was about fighting the man behind the machine. Nowadays, it is supposedly about fighting the machine behind the man. Is any of this true?

One of the most controversial manga titles in years has come to the United States, and it poses the idea for a great but difficult campaign. Death Note tells the story of a high school genius named Light who finds a strange notebook on the ground by his school and picks it up. Reading the introduction, he finds that it is the "Death Note", a notebook left behind by an Angel of Death. If you write a person's name in the book while his or her face is in your mind, that person will die in the manner you specify if you do so within forty seconds. If you don't specify a means, he will simply drop dead from heart failure. (the face is a failsafe to prevent you from causing…

OK, folx, since I'm about to start working on the new Dark Champions genre book, it's time for yet another "what do you want to see?" threads. Before I get started (see next thread), I'm going to make a couple of suggestions that I hope will keep the thread focused and make it as useful as possible to me. First, please read the posted outline. If I've already mentioned something in the outline, you don't need to suggest that I include it in the book. Second, please remember that despite the title*, Dark Champions is not a supplement for Champions -- it's a genre book for modern-day action-adventure, ranging from costumed vigilante crimefighters (like Batma…
