I was going to make a big post with lots of pictures, but decided that it was a huge pain in the butt to find all that stuff. So I yoinked a couple and I'll put them here, expecting others to do the same. Criteria for this is that the gun is a bit different. Anyone can go and look up the military weapons of various eras that have been in use for some time. I'd like to see some of the different ones, though it doesn't have to be crazy. So, for my entry, I present two iterations of the S&W .500 Magnum X-Frame revolver. One is a full-on snubby, and one is a 4" barreled snubby. This is basically a big bore old-school style round for a revolver that really belong…

This thread is for material that evokes a "Dark Champions" feeling. Guidelines: *Anything 1950s and onward, please. Before this, and the feel of "Pulp" becomes greater. *Near-future is okay. Too far into the future, however, and we're in Star Hero territory. ---

The following collection of characters are based on various heroes, anti-heroes, and villains mentioned in assorted pop/rock/country/folk songs. I've tried to avoid adding to much to any one character, sticking mostly to what the song gives us, although I did give additional ideas in the character's Description section on things the GM might want to add. Enjoy.

It seemed to work well for Richard Logue in the Star Hero forums, and I've seen it work in RPG.net, so why not here? We're at least as creative as those guys! Anyway, the idea is, imagine a hotel stocked with weird characters. They should be strange in a Twin Peaks/X-Files kind of way - they can be possibly vaguely slightly mystical (but it should never be obviously magic), or they could be vaguely slightly high-tech (in a conspiracy sort of easily-mistaken-for-something-else way), or whatever you like. The only requirement should be that they are weird characters easily captured in a few sentences. You don't have to give them names - giving them titles such as, er, …

We start out with some very cool images usuable for the Card Shark gang in the Dark Champions the Animated series. Diamond: Club: Spades: Hearts: These guys could be the costume of common goons or special lieutenants or whatever you want. If you wonder where the images are from. I think they are special costumes for the popular game Fortnite.

How is this martial arts technique executed in HERO 5th/6th Edition?

I've been toying around with the idea of running some Commando comics -influenced World War 2 game with pulpy heroes boosted with abilities from Dark Champions and Pulp Hero. The players would participate in a number of imagined and real world operations in various World War 2 theaters in their adventures. I've looked at writeups for weapons of the era in Hero and I wanted to make some changes. Hopefully this thread will contain many "realistic" weapons for greater verisimilitude in WW2 era combats. I mainly focused on assigning correct autofire ratings for these weapons, but damage might change too in some cases, and some notes regarding crews manning the weapons. …

To me I always assumed that Street level hero was synonymous with normal human characters i.e. Batman and Punisher. U was given by a friend a trade paper back of Iron Fist and Power man awhile ago and the light bulb clicked that you can have street level heroes who are powered too. So looking up on the net, I got a small list as follows: Spiderman Daredevil Power Man Iron Fist Moon Knight Misty Knight Are there any others? Thanks (p.s. This is going to be used with DC:TAS, that might have a bearing on choices)

We're building out a new Urban Fantasy Monster Hunter campaign based in part on my old Demon Hunter: FBI setting from the Haymaker and EZHero days, and influenced heavily by the recent novel Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia. Here is the site: Here There Be Monsters. UPDATE: The site is fully fleshed out with Origins, custom Abilities and Powers such as Hex, Intervention, Invocation, Exorcism, and Supernatural Suppression, 40 sample starting characters across the five Origins of Believer, Mystic, Psychic, Innati, and Professional, 20+ NPCs (and growing), 3 "Vignette" adventures with character writes ups and plot-lines, and sundry other thin…

Based on forum activity I have noticed a marked decline in the number of people that seem to be playing the Dark Champions genre. I have a hard time believing that people have all of a sudden lost their appetite for Guns and Violence. Is this due to Herogames' lack of support for the genre or some other reason that I am not seeing? My group has been playing a Dark Champions campaign for nearly six years now and it is the most successful game we have ever had. Speaking of support for Dark Champions, is there any plan to revive the genre? Perhaps renaming it "Action Hero" or something else and updating the genre book and perhaps the Hudson City sourcebook? I…

Worse than rape 1 2 3

Topic says it all. What would you consider to be worse than rape? I have an idea for a female hero, who has had bad things happen to her, tortured, soul destroying, etc... I have some real gruesome visuals in my head, but one thing I want is for it to have been more traumatic to her than if she had been raped (A crimelord broke her basically)...ideas?

I have been doing some thinking on Guns and Ammunition lately. I've always liked the Dark Champions genre as I am something of a realism nut. I did some deep digging into the Hero System Firearms damage tables (in Dark Champions 5e incidentally). What I found was a more or less true correlation of Muzzle Energy to Damage Classes. Each Damage Class is supposed to represent double the Energy (in Joules) of the previous. This is fairly well represented in the table (with the occasional stray). I was thinking of a way to further break down Damage to add some flavor to Firearms Damage Classes. First I guess I should share my findings. Firearms Damage …

One of my players, who almost never posts (TheQuietOne, I believe), sent me this link in an e-mail and I liked it, and I realized that while we have a Fantasy art thread.... I don't recall one for Dark Champions. So, here's a thread for posting images of places, people, or things, or whatever that you think would be neat in a Dark Champions game (or anything that relates to Dark Champions, or would be a subgenre of Dark Champions, or could be modified for Dark Champions... etc. When in doubt, share it!) tl;dr version (I need some commentary from any gun/military/law enforcement/body armor experts on how actual gunfights play out... to compare to how Hero simulates them.) So I've long been a fan of the "Heroic" level of Hero system, playing out the cinematic and closer to "real' levels of combat. I've never found a system that works as well for detailed (but not TOO detailed) resolution of attack maneuvers, defense maneuvers, hit locations, damage effects, etc. For all Hero's flaws... this remains the coolest "combat action resolution" system out there. That being said, last night I did a side adventure in my Secret Worlds campaign, where I gave my…

tl;dr Looking for alt rules/house rules that make guns and gun combat in Hero more realistically dangerous in comparison to HtH, muscle powered weapons and movement in the normal Hero rules. Well, no one appears to spend much time in the Dark Champs Genre board, but I'll try here to see if I can get any opinions. 1) Running a cinematic "real world" game... think Jason Bourne meets X-Files type of thing. 2) While characters might be a touch " over the top" in some ways, stats are within the Heroic level, combat should feel dangerous and not something to be taken lightly. 3) Martial arts and muscle powered weapons exist, but guns should be…

Gun Barrel Overheat 1 2 3

I've heard that autofire weapons can experience overheating of the barrel due to heavy use. Does anyone know if this is covered in the rules anywhere? If it isn't, how could this be simulated?

I was asked recently to run a Heroes Unlimited Campaign for my Sister-in-Law and her family, but I didn't want to use the palladium rules, so I looked around and found Hero System. I'd heard of it before but never used it, had a quick read of the rules and thought I'd give it a go. So I established a setting using the Wold Newton Timeline as background and history. The city I chose to set it in was my home city Brisbane, Australia. Decided to run the game every second Friday night, unfortunately the first night no one showed up because of family issues. During the next fortnight I changed some things in the setting, I decided it would be a heroci level game with characte…

I have seen snipers used in one of a few ways. 1. A fully faceless threat to show that a territory is dangerous and that the party ought to "snap to". This typically happens by having a neutral/friendly NPC in the PCs' vicinity getting their melon exploded. Afterwards, the PCs head into a building/underground/vehicle/etc and don't encounter a sniper again. 2. An obstacle not unlike a diabolical trap in a dungeon. The PCs must confront them, outmaneuvering through sheer wits and courage. The enemy sniper is not necessarily killed. 3. An often unknown foe for the party's resident sniper/marksman to take on during their time in the limelight. 4. A named/known…

So, I've been reading on the 18th century, and I started thinking about weapons of the era. I watched a couple of videos on muskets and I gleaned some useful information. Firstly, the damage. A Brown Bess for example is said to shoot a load of .75 caliber ball with the amount of powder equaling a 11 gauge shotgun. That would round either way to 10 gauge or 12 gauge shotgun shooting solid slugs. I think a safe compromise in damage is about 3d6 of Killing damage. A pistol .51 caliber ball would do maybe 2d6 Killing damage. The loading time. I saw a video of a guy shooting 3 rounds off a Brown Bess in 46 seconds. British soldiers were said to have fired at 3 rounds p…

If you're an anime fan, and you want an interesting take on the DC genre (guns, violence, chases, two-gun killers, organized crime, and so on), try and find something called Black Lagoon. Four people run a courier service out of Thailand using an old WWII PT Boat, the Black Lagoon (also the name of their company). They are smugglers, pirates, killers, and more. Check out the Church of Violence, a nunnery that smuggles guns. Hotel Moscow, the Russian mafia. Mr. Chan, who's Hong Kong Triad, and is Chow Yun-Fat in all but name (he has the same look and the gunfighting skills). Revy the psycho two-gun fighter from hell. Dutch the Vietnam vet and the brains behind the co…

I have decided to start posting the old campaign logs of my best and longest running Dark Champions campaign The Omega Campaign. The Omega Team was a group of vigilantes that operated out of Hudson City. Most of the characters were originals with the exception of Nightstick who was adapted for use by one of the player-characters and Dancer who was a permanent NPC. (Both of these characters were taken from the Hudson City Blues sourcebook). Dancer was very useful for providing info to the players and as extra firepower on those night she was needed or a player was unable to attend. I made use of many published adventures during the course of this campaign (published b…
