Okay, so I'm running a slightly comedic Dark Champions: the animated series game(Hudson City Powers), 5th Edition rules, with a twist: I give them incentive to play batman-types(normal gadgeteers) beyond the usual normal characteristic maxima: They(The PCs) start out with 270 points and normal characteristic maxima and can buy off normal characteristic maxima with their starting points. However, I'm trying to think of a foxbat adventure seed or something, and the other problem is that I'm counting on there being a lot of players(around 12). I wonder... My dad had this idea of the "villain scouts", a villain training camp run by foxbat, but I thought of the idea of Fox…

I somehow totally missed that this had gone on sale: "The Third War" It's a story I wrote last year for Pinnacle's "Necessary Evil" setting, in which all the superheroes are dead and the villains have to save the world from an alien invasion. Here's the synopsis from PEG's website: Crusader is the most isolated man in Star City. He spent the years prior to the v’sori invasion racking up an impressive body count of supervillains and street criminals. For his efforts he was hunted by the cops, targeted by the underworld, and reviled by the public as a ruthless vigilante. Since the invasion he’s shifted his focus to shooting aliens, but still takes any opportunit…

In anticipation of people soon getting their hands on Hudson City, we've posted two new documents to the Free Stuff page: 1. The Hudson City Encyclopedia, the encyclopedic index for the book. 2. The Hudson City Hotel, Bar, And Restaurant Guide, a handy list of places to stay and eat in the Pearl City. Enjoy!

My chairacter I created is kind of a crossover between cammando and bounty hunter. On the one hand commandos chase down bad guys. Then again so do bounty hunters. Both do it for profit. Just a matter of the ol Dead or alive thing. I think commandos would rather bring their bad guy back dead rather then alive. A bounty hunter on the other hand doesnt get paid for their man to be dead. So if you had a choice would your Dark Champions chairacter be either a commando or a bounty hunter?

So the deal is this: Near future, Tech-based powered armor. My current thinking is to make this an Heroic game so that the focus is on the characters. Each "driver" or wearer of the armor will have a chosen field of study. Either a hard science or perhaps something a little more on the fringe. Equipment will consist of a base-model exoskeleton, but several "mission mods" can be loaded on hardpoints at major joints (shoulders, back, Left and right arms, left and right legs) depending on what the job might call for. Think of Iron Man meets Thunderbirds, or, Centurions, if you remember that show... So the question is: Thoughts on Character point and Disad limits? Norm Cha …

A few times when I've run street level crimefighting campaigns, I've heard a few of these quotes from players as intros when they arrive on scene and the players aren't quite in the right grimly serious moods for their characters. Here are some of the more humorous examples I recall. "Beware evildoers, for I am the crabgrass in the lawn of crime." "Fear me. I am the parking meter that won't take your coins."

HOLY COW! This book is absolutely fan-freakin'-tastic. As I've mentioned before I recently moved and in the unpacking I found a few Champions books I hadn't seen in quite sometime. On of the books I found was Hudson City Blues. I picked up somewhere for like 3 bucks but I never really read it. Well I was out of reading material so I picked up and started reading it. I was pretty intrigued and thought it was an interesting adventure. It makes reference to characters in the Underworld Enemies, so I figured I'd see if I could find a copy of that and Justice Not Law (haven't been through the latter yet). I got them both from Amazon.com for under $15. After going through …

This character was inspired by Salvador Velazquez's cover art for Eco Comics' Dick Turbin #1. I have a hard-time coming up with "themed" characters -- but this worked for me. Dick Turban was a historical highwayman, and I've always enjoyed Alfred Noyes eponymous poem -- The Highwayman. I had a picture in my head of a 1700's highwayman blowing into "old town" on an old Indian-4 motorcycle while writing it. The design fits the Hudson City Knights genre-principles and Hudson City Powers power-levels. However, I've been considering doing Champions:TAS with trimmed down power-levels that would allow DC:TAS crossover. To that end, his flintlock blasters …

Hello everyone! I'm running a game set in the modern day where the PCs are participants on a game show with high stakes. Indeed, their very lives are on the line. To help them out every now and again, the people in charge of the competition will send in bags chock full of supplies. Asides from the usual equipment (weapons/ammo, medical supplies, food/water, clothing, etc), what could be placed in them to add flavor and cover those little luxuries us lazy first-world citizens take for granted? (Before you make mention of it, know that I did not see the first The Hunger Games film before I came up with this idea .)

I've written up a few guns that I've found in various places (mostly The Firearm Blog) that aren't in the HSEG. Constructive criticism is welcome. Lahti L-39: (Total: 95 Active Cost, 21 Real Cost) Killing Attack - Ranged 4d6, +1 Increased STUN Multiplier (+1/4), Increased Maximum Range (1,200m; +1/4) (90 Active Points); OAF Bulky (-1 1/2), STR Minimum 15 (STR Min. Cannot Add/Subtract Damage; -1 1/4), 10 Charges (-1/4), Real Weapon (-1/4), Beam (-1/4), Required Multiple Users (2 people; -1/4) (Real Cost: 19) plus +1 with this rifle (2 Active Points); OAF Bulky (-1 1/2) (Real Cost: 1) plus +3 to offset Range Penalties (3 Active Points); OAF Bulky (-1 1/2) (Real Cost: 1…

Hey there guys. I seem to have failed my PER roll and my Hobby Skill (HERO RPG) roll. Because of that, I would appreciate it if someone could point me towards the relevant 6e (or 5e, if it is the only option available) rules for duels between gunfighters.

Every year, on January 1st, my group does a long one-shot game. This year, with all the excitement over "Skyfall", I decided to run a Danger International/Spy game. It's clearly a team dynamic, so, more like "Sneakers" or the "Mission Impossible" tv series than James Bond. My questions are around character creation and team roles. I want each character to feel unique, but I want to ensure that they have input into character creation as well. All THAT being said, I also want it to be modular. This is where I am headed and the input I need. Basic Training Characteristics - Package Deal/Template - The minimum stats for passing basic training. Basic Training Sk…

Some time ago I was looking through the Dark Champions book at the modern profession Package Deals, and noticed a glaring omission -- the Astronaut. I thought this was a really interesting career choice for player characters, that could provide a cross-over possibility with Star Hero plots. I did research on Wikipedia and the NASA website, and came up with my own Package Deal. I just noticed it went down with the Vault, and re-uploaded it. Astronaut Package Deal

I am playing Shadows of the City and one of the character, a local police detective in hudson city, decided to ask his dept for firepower help in busting a big drug cargo in the docks. Considering I live in anotehr country () all this local/federal/national overlapping of duties is making my head spin. Armed vigilantes using non conventional weaponry are wiping out the major drug dealers in the city. On top of my mind I guess ATF (for the weaponry), DEA (for drugs) and local police powers could be involved. I have seen some action movies myself but I wonder - would the local police actually ASK DEA for help in the drug bust or they would prefer to keep it for their…

There is a subgrnee of stories (mostly on television, many animated) in which teenagers are recruited into international espionage work and prove to be extraodinarily good at it. I don;t have Dark Champions yet, but since that seems to be the de fact source material for espeionage campaigns of all sorts, can the teen-spy camaign be handled well and how well would ti work. Aside from which, I'm wondering what people would rather see their camapigns inspired by: Kim Possible or Totally Spies!?

To me I always assumed that Street level hero was synonymous with normal human characters i.e. Batman and Punisher. U was given by a friend a trade paper back of Iron Fist and Power man awhile ago and the light bulb clicked that you can have street level heroes who are powered too. So looking up on the net, I got a small list as follows: Spiderman Daredevil Power Man Iron Fist Moon Knight Misty Knight Are there any others? Thanks (p.s. This is going to be used with DC:TAS, that might have a bearing on choices)

I was just wondering if people are converting the Dark Champions (I also include in that - Hudson City, Dark Champions: The Animated Series, and Urban Fantasy) to the 6th Editon rules - or are they just keeping with the 5th Edition rules? I started Hero System with the 6th Edition rules but I did purchase the 5th Editon rules in both book and .pdf form. I was wondering how I should run it - but 5th or 6th editon rules. Thanks Todd

What makes for a memorable criminal in a Dark Champions setting, especially those that involve masked heroes? Do they have to have powers and abilities? Can they get by with odd motivations alone? What makes for an "uncommon" criminal? What are some you have faced as players or created as GMs that you feel were a cut above so-called "common" criminals?

I am gonna post that random kickin art that just feels like DC in this thread. Unlike my fantasy thread, this one won't get nearly so many posts but hopefully it will still prove useful to the Dark Champions games out there. Link 1: Need a little voodoo magic to straiten your players? This guy can deliver.
