Storn has a really good thread going right now where he has posted some color artwork from MMM. I mentioned that I have some color pics I did for the Fantasy Hero Grimoire, and was asked to show them. Here they are. For these illustrations, I basically worked in the opposite edirection the noble Storn did. Whereas he worked in color and reduced to greyscale, I created these in greyscale and colorized them as an experiment. BTW, these were also the first illustrations I did after getting a Wacom pressure sensitive tablet. They are entirely digital. WARNING: Though there is no nudity, the third illo is something you might not want to suddenly flash up on your scree…

I've been doing some work on magic for my fantasy world, and came to the conclusion that I need to do a lot of work on magic for my fantasy world. Looking through my world writeups, I have found references to/characters for/villians using 23 different styles of magic(!). It has also been pointed out that most of my players would much rather be able to pick precosted spells than build their own, although some would also like to build their own, as well. Some of the work will be done by my buying the FHG (thanks Steve & Co!), but there will need to be a lot of work done by me to get everything I want done, done. Now, here's the question I have. Since I ha…

Hey I got MMM today and it looks good. I realy like this book it's handy to have default people like humans to refer to. It is nice to just look something up now and then as opposed to making every thing new. I think this book will get more use than ony of the other books I have purchased from DOJ (excepting the Grimoire) But and there is always a but... It is missing one of the pics and in the back it still has the lay out note for two of the pics? Anyone have the news on that?

A hypothetical question: you are using a humanoid race from Monsters, Minions, and Marauders "off the shelf" not customizing it for your campaign. Let's say it's the orc. The stats listed for the orc (Str 12, etc.) compare to which human stat set from Hero 5th? The orc is described as being a typical, competent individual the player might encounter. Do you compare the orc listed in MMM to: A) The Average Person (Str 8) The Noteworthy Normal (Str 10) C) The Skilled or Competent Normal (Str 13)

(I've got the Bestiary and am awaiting MMM by way of background.) I'm trying to build a mist "creature" like that in Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and Gray Mouser story Ill Met in Lankhmar, and am encountering some difficulties. Namely, the "creature" has a mist body, whose tendrils grapple and slow up those with its grasp, strangling its targets, and seems to have more "slowing" capacity as you get closer to its center. The body's mist-like tendrils can be cut but would seem unable to be grabbed. A few paths I have explored have included: 1. the hydra model, with duplication, to enable multiple tendrils grabbing multiple targets, but this is problematic since it r…

Just bought Ninja Scroll yesterday, and have seen it three times since. I´m certain that I saw a write-up of one of the Eight Demons (it´s the hunchback with the wasp nest) on these boards this summer, but I can´t find it. Has anyone seen it?

Hey all, I have a quick question for ya. I am running a 75+75 game. I am curious what your games at that level or so end up with averge ocv/dcv and damage.

I was creating magic armor and wanted one of the magic affects to be that the armor was weightless, so checked the encumbrance, which I had previously not really paid all that much attention to. I was less then thrilled when I read the rules, which is the standard how much can you carry business. It means that a charcter that has say strength of 9 (far less then the minimum strength needed for most weapons) can still wear full plate mail with no problem. Which immeditaly made me ask, why doesn't armor have minimum str requirements? It would be easy to use the exactly same rule setup for minimum strength for weapons. If your strength is 5 points below the str mi…

Okay, here's a summary of the fantasy campaign I've been working on and asked for advice on since I joined the boards. I had originally expected my players to be involved in courtly intrigue, but nobody wanted to do that, preferring to be outlaws instead. So here's my campaign for you to enjoy (and use, if you wish): CAMPAIGN: THE WRONGED INTRODUCTION Swashbuckling swordplay and unarmed martial arts mix with political intrigue in this fantasy version of Europe. Heroic deeds and romantic liaisons are everyday occurrences in the seventeenth century. The heroes have become outcasts for one reason or another, usually as a result of having fallen victim to a villai…

Okay, I've been over and over this one and I just can't GROk it. Many package deals contain stats as part of the package. Howevre stat points can be sold off for what they cost according to the H5 rules. How, then, does putting the stats in the package deal effect anything? If i wanted the stats I could buy them without the package deal, and if I don't want them I can just sell them off and take the points back out of the package. It seems to me to be a null addition to the package. What, if anything, am I missing?

Hey there, So I'm working on some stuff for a fantasy game and I was thinking of allowing mages access to VPPs ... but I'd like them to be able to keep a book of their spells OOC ... in other words, they have to have the spell listed in their own notebook (with a breakdown of what it does) if they intend on using it. Would you consider this a limitation for the VPP Control Cost? If so, what would you give it? I was thinking something along the lines of: 30 pt. Magic VPP (Must have spells listed in spellbook, -1/2) 45/40 What does Herodom think?

Suppose, if you eat a given portion of a critter, you get a magical effect. It's like a potion, but maybe the critter gets to use the power normally. How do you do that? Usable by others? Or is there a second write-up besides the critter entry? I only ask because chickens in Caleon have something like this, and after years, I'm going back to FH to run it. Your Thoughts, O Assembled Hero-dom?

YO Bullseye! Having noted your Package Deals question to Steve I figgured i would bring up an optional rule I have not yet had a chance to fully test. The Rule is very simple: Create a Skill enhancer named(Package Deal) that only "enhances" skills in that package, thus if a Druid had : Skill Enhancer "Druid" and his Druidical Skills(skills he shared with the package you were bonusing) were: Paramedic, Ks: Poisons, KS: Diseases, Ak: Local Forest and PS: Druid, then to buy the abilites at 11- would only cost 8 points and not 10. The Larger the number of skills in the package the "cheaper" the cost. At this point you have only saved 2 points but with say eight s…

Okay, a question for you all. What is the power level in your game, and how do you keep maintain it (if you do at all)? For my current campaign I had planned to have "normal" attacks around 4-5 DC, and attacks by a combat specialist up to about 6-7 DC. Defenses were similarly targeted at 3-5 DEF average, and about 8 DEF maximum. I set CV at 8/8 for a dedicated warrior, less for others. The PCs stuck to these guidelines nonimally -- their base attacks and skill were within parameters, but after adding in the effects of PSLs, martial arts, and other things, I had characters with +10 to +15 effective OCV and 4d6K attacks. The dwarf could fight at SPD 4, 11 OCV, 11 …

I happen to like the fantasy genre, but I am tired of; elves, dwarves, hobbits etc. I wanted to create new races, for an online game, as well as an interesting background. If anyone here has any suggestions on generating races, I'd like to hear them. Will people even want to play the game without the old standard races...........?

I've been asked to do a writeup for a old fashioned, water wheel powered sawmill, probably from the early Renaissance. I agreed thinking it would be a snap to find a book or website on how they ran sawmills 'back in the day'. Reality is a harsh mistress. Does anyone out there know anything that might be useful? Or of any books/websites I should be investigating? What I have so far: There will probably be a pond formed by a small small dam, appropriatly called a millers pond. There will be stacks of logs near the mill drying out. The miller will have about 4 assistants or apprentices or sons. Gears will be used to connect the wheel to the saw blades. Sawb…

A while ago someone posted an URL in one of the HERO forums to a comprehensive list of possible limitations that may be applied to spells. The list was for 4th Ed., but is mostly applicable to FRED. I searched the forums, but no luck. Does anyone remember this URL? Thanks in advance.

The Fantasy Hero Grimoire has a spell to create a wight, but I couldn't find stats for it in the Bestiary. Am I looking in the right place? Also, CKC describes Takofanes as a sere lich. Is this something unique to the Turakian Age?

Anyone done any work on any of the magic systems from Lawrence Watt-Evans' Ethshar novels? I just read Ithalanin's Restoration, which is basically all about fixing a spell gone wrong, and I was thinking again of how Hero would handle all the different magic systems in that setting.
