now as a couple of ya know, i have only recently started my trek into Hero. And the rules are still very new. now what i mean for options issues i am talkin about how can i convert the DnD 3e flavor to the Hero system? there was so many options (from races to feats). I still have a fav character of mine which is set in developing some celestial heritage (aka as he grows in experience he developes the hal-celestial template). How could one simulate this with Hero? i figure you just create lesser versions of the envisioned final power and increase it with experience as you go. No fuss no mus, or is it? Since i am still trying to figure out everything, can one do t…

This is actually being used in a pulp adventure but would work well in fantasy as well. The character has no magic. They wanted healing (and this could work for other things as well). In their background they were healed by a shaman once, and then had to serve him for awhile as payment. Now when he is wounded he can call upon the shaman to heal him. It is a large healing power, 1 charge, extra time, and a side effect which always happens - his debt to the Shaman. So when he is badly wounded he calls on the shaman and is healed overnight. Then as soon as he is able he has to perform some task to repay the shaman. It works great to give him access to…

Hi, maybe I'm slow, but I've finally been bitten by the Diablo II bug, now I'm in the middle of act three, and well I can't help but wonder if anyone has done some conversion rules for Diablo. It seems to me very possible, just a question of finding powerlevels for each Act. For example Act one is probably around 75+50 starting points, maybe even less, and it goes up from there. Also in a champions adaptation there should be much less fighting, if the actual amount of monsters a character had to face equaled the amount thrown at a Diablo character you'd probably end up spending 5 nights gaming time just getting through the first quest from act 1. just a thought.

The Master List of Limitations

I've had several people inquire about the health of the Master List of Limitations, and the reason it was down. I'd like to apologize to everyone for the inconvenience, first off. Secondly, the list is back on the web. The URL is http://www.globalguardians.com/masterlists/index.html Be aware that the Master List is currently undergoing a reformatting, so not all the pages are available. Steve Ball, the Global Guardians webmaster, is working as hard on it as he can in addition to his regular job and the other pages he creates for the GG. In addition, both myself and Guardians developer David Doepke is working to complete the missing entries.…

I misspelled that, I just know I did. Anyway, back to the question. This would probably require player permission, but has anyone ever tried a scenario in which there is absa-friga-lutely no chance the players will survive, much less win, just to see how long they can hold off the inevitable?

I was browsing through Hero Designer v2 last night and noticed a new Talent called Rapid Healing. When I looked at the definition it referred me to Fantasy Hero. The description sounds much how I would like my Champions character to heal rather than her current Healing (Regeneration). Would some kind soul let me know how this was built in FH, assuming that Talents show how they were built as in FREd?

Full armor suits (whether leather, chain, etc.) are listed in the Price Listing Area and in the Armor Area in the 5E FH book, but the weight on one of the lists is 2x the weight on the other list - what's up with this? (No book handy for page references.)

Anyone with cable might wanna check out the History Channel series 'Conquest.' At least, it seems to be an actual History Channel production - if it's showing elsewhere, I apologise. I thought it was in-house. Anyway, it's about weapons and combat styles. Has an actor (Peter Woodward), who knows stuff about things. It's mostly about medieval stuff, but also has odd digressions (an episode on bull riding? What the hell?). As an example, the first episode I saw was about axes. It was brilliant. Changed my opinion about 'em. Showed them being used in what they think would be historical styles (as very little is known about actual medieval combat styles), and they w…

I'm trying to develop a magic system that simulates precognitive contemplation. So a practitionar meditates and is given flashes and clues to future events. Now I don't want the GM to plan every move the players are going to take so I was thinking the character would make a RSR PS:Divination during the meditation and then use the "delayed" advantage to dictate how many "hints" the character is trying to interpret now when the character wants to use one of his hints he would make a second RSR Deduction to see if the hint is recognized as being relevant. Now here are the problems I'm having: 1) How do I dictate a time frame for the hints to be effective since severa…

I´m preparing to write up my own weapons list for my Undermount Reaches campaign, and I just thought of an interesing thing: How fast is a weapon? Should´nt the fact that a light weapon, or a more well-balanced one, can be more easily handled than a heavy, clumsy weapon give a bonus to DEX for the purpose of determining initiative? I figured this would work with Lightning Reflexes through a weapon OAF, and that weapons weighing up to 0.5 kg would get +2 DEX, up to 1 kg would give +1, up to 2 kg +/-0, up to 4 kg -1 DEX, and up to 6 kg would yield a -2. And if the weapon is unbalanced, like an axe or a mace, it would get a -1. Is this anything? Comments? Viewpoi…

If a beastie has an array of weapons bought outside of an MP can it unleash all at the same time? Lets use a Manticore as an example, it has claws, a bite and a tail to attack with, all bought seperately. Can it slash, bite and sweep with the tail all in the same phase without using sweep maneuver penalties? I'm inclined to say that it can, but would like another opinion, would anyone care to comment? Thanks in advance, Alistair

In the Fantasy Hero rulebook, there is a section that discusses using a Spell Skill system. Instead of the PC paying for points in the actual spell, he actually buys a Skill with the spell instead. Of course this assumes that the GM has a bunch of spells already worked out or he can use spells in the FH Grimoire. I kind of like this method of having PC spellcasters buy spells using a skill, like Fireball Skill etc., The only problem I see is if after a while the PC spellcaster gains some XP and wants to make changes to the actual spell, how would a GM handle that, since the only points the PC spellcaster actually spent is points in a Skill for the original spe…

Hey Guys,I'm working on my psuedo-class system for my setting. The first part of it is stat maximums. Basically they primary stat maximum have to all add up to 135. The secondaries are figured from the primaries.I'd like a sanity check on some initial results. Some things in this are specific to my setting (like the Religion skill priests use to cast is based on EGO. The Performance skill bards use to cast is based on PRE.) But in general how do these look to others. Reasonable for a psuedo-class based world where people have very different abilities according to their areas of training? ></pre> <table frame="lhs" cellspacing="0" rules="groups" border=…

OK, I'm thinking of setting up a one-on-one game set in the FF7 universe, but I wanted to detail and balance the rules sufficiently that I can add in extra players as I go along if desired. I'm planning to run it using Superheroic rules but starting at a low points total - so there's no NCM and fights are 'super' lethal rather than 'heroic' lethal, but characters will start at a reasonable power level before starting to escalate (much like the computer games where you go from taking on a couple of armed guards, to defeating dragons in a couple of blows...). This also simulates the fact that characters in FF7 tend to have signature weapons, so it made sense to me to h…

For those using this costing system: how do you differentiate between powers (spells etc) that have costs divided by three and those that cost full? It seems that even some talents have spell like function. Do you charge 1/3 for those? What about semi-spell casters like Paladin based characters? Do they pay full points or do they get a cost break too? Or do only 'true' spell casters get this cost benefit? I am curious if and how others have dealt with these issues.

OK - heres the problem. I'm trying to work up a music magic - where the spell lasts as long as the caster plays, and lingers afterwards. The caster will be at 1/2 or 0 DCV throughout the casting (I haven't decided), and can basically play as long as he wants (and pays for it, if I use END cost). The gestures part works for the "must play instrument" part. Does the lingering suffice for the rest? Reading it, the literal interpretation seems to be no - the advantage seems to keep a power ready for use for a set duration. Maybe raise the advantage to reflect the variable nature - since it only goes into effect after he stops playing. Or is the uncontrolled…

So how many of you include books in your fantasy campaigns and if you do how much are they worth? I've decided the prices of paper, parchment, and vellum in the FH book must be a typo and I'm treating the listed price as being the cost of 1 kg of paper rather than the cost of 1 sheet. At a rate of 1 sp per double page (using a nonmovable type press or 2 SP per page if hand written) and a cost of 10 SP for binding. Books are still worth 100's of SP each (I'm completely ignoring the prices listed for reference libraries since I can't seem to resolve them at all). While as gamemaster this means I will use books as a very compact form of treasure only really appreci…

I have a player who is proposing (for his PC): -15 Psych Lim: Hatred of Orcs and Goblins (com, strong) -20 Enraged: when facing Orcs and Goblins (com, 11-, 11-) -20 Hunted: by Orcs and Goblins (8-, mo pow, public id) My question: Does hatred of orcs and goblins overlap with being enraged by orcs and goblins? It seems to me that both disadvantages are going to result in this character attacking goblins on sight. I'm not sure it's worth 35 points... Also, if he is HUNTED by orcs and goblins, he has a good incentive to fight -- self defense! Does he really need extra points for attacking them too? I'm looking for opinions. He's getting 55 points for t…

I just asked Steve about Summoning and Communicating with Summoned Creatures, and here was his response: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10488 How are people handling this? For "druid" types, do they have an "animal tongue"? For regular mages, how do you handle talking to summoned rat? Just hand-wave it? Assume the rat / other creature has intelligence / training and can understand basic commands? Include a telepathic component to the summon? Include a linked "language" to the spell?

I am playing in a new Fantasy Hero campaign and am playing a swashbuckling duelist sort of character. I would like him to be able to do kewl wild and wooly cinematic stunts by constructing them in the same way you would a superpower. I have had some of my own ideas and am inspired by the material in ninja hero. I was wondering what ideas any of you have had? If you have any of your own examples and you think they would fit in a FH game, could you share? Im looking for powers in the 20-60 Active Point range.

I was thinking about Magic systems and sorta unifying them for my home game and came up with the following. It basically uses the concept of Combat Skill Levels on magic. Magic: Players are required to purchase a Power Roll in order to use magic. All forms of magic will use a variation of this roll. The majority of magic users are elementilists who have access to a single school of Elemental Magic, however some more gifted magic users have access to all of the elemental schools. All magic is based from the elements but few are able to progress beyond the foundation of magic. These powerful commanders of magic are called Summoners, Necromancers, Sorcerers, a…
