Anyone have recommendations for fantasy games that would be good to pick ideas from. Along with recommendations why would be nice to know as well (what makes it a good referance) whether its the game world, the magic system or something else.

I am located in the Portland Metro Area. I am looking for a few good players. It is a fantasy genre game using standard hero rules. The story line takes place 1000 years after the PC game Diablo2. Hell has forged out into the land of Sanctuary, and the heroes must defeat the enemy and follow them through the depths of hell to vanquish them. If you liked the PC game Diablo2, and are familliar or even not familliar with the Hero system please feel free to email me. diablo2caravan@attbi.com I will actually be recruiting with in the next couple of weeks, please respond quickly. We try our best to play every other weekend. There is one game this weekend …

Hey Ya'll, Does anybody know of any good info on converting D&D 3 characters and monsters to Hero System? If someone could recommend where much of this has already been done, that would be great! Thanks!

Looking for opinions. Does this seem balanced for a Heroic (probably 75 +75 to start) campaign? Magic in the Realms Magic in Faerun is divided into two catagories: Arcane and divine. Regardless of type, all magic spells are purchased as individual Powers and Power Frameworks of any kind are not permitted. A single spellcaster may practice both arcane and divine magic, provided that he or she abides by all applicable rules. If a magic spell requires a Focus, that Focus must be Obvious and Accessable. The greatest number of seperate spells that a spellcaster may have active at any one time is limited to INT/5. This includes spells with the Delayed E…

I understand that it is either 3 or 5 pts CSLs that are the cheapest to increase damage. Is it the 3 or the 5 pts CSL that is the minimum for Limitations? How much would "Only to Increase Damage" be worth as a Limitation?

OK i'm trying to build a Masterwork Sword (yes i'm converting my D20 Game) What do you think of this? Long Sword, Masterwork, all slots: Independent (-2), OAF (-1), STR Minimum (10; -1/2), Real Weapon (-1/4) 1) Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 4DCs (plus STR) (vs. PD), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (30 Active Points) 2) Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 1DC (vs. PD), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (7 Active Points); Limited Power (Only when Attack roll succeds by 5 or more; -1 1/2) I dont' want to just make it do more damage or have a bonus to OCV but i want it to be better then a normal weapon of its' type...any other sugest…

Dear Sirs, Like to start up the gunpowder thread again so here is a gunpowder timeline, which I plan to post here for your edification. But the first two hundred years took ten pages I decide to post a shorter line that deals with the black powder weapons. I deleted the important people listing, and most battle descriptions this is still long. 1250AD – Roger Bacon and others discover gunpowder around this time. Many keep it secret but it effeteness is limited by the impure ingredients. 1300 AD Somewhere in Northern Italy a person notices that if you take a tube and tie it to a board as a platform, cram in gunpowder (made with the new purer saltpeter) a…

Well, after strugging for ages with a magic system for my Fantasy HERO campaign (75 +75), I finally had a two-fold epiphany: a) It's not that worth worrying about so much. It's a game and the point is to have fun. Some of my drafts were pages long and read like legal documents. Blah. Simpler is better. So, here's my magic system. All of it. a) All magic is handled through the Magic VPP except for permanent magic items (ones without Charges or with many Charges). No Advantages or Limitations can be applied to the Magic VPP other than the ones it begins with. Similarly, none of its initial Limitations may ever be bought down or off. All player-propos…

Starting a conversion of the 3e Monk. Im ambivalent about this. Personally, I would recommend using the UMA to design custom monks with really cool combat styles and personalize the characters. Coming from 3e, where HtH is just a big kludge, the Monks are perhaps the class most improved by converting to HERO. But in the interests of a baseline, Im doing a 'close to the book' version. The idea here isnt to get too caught up on the details or try to replicate system-specific abilities that have no meaning in HEROs. The idea is also to be economical on points so that the final points are reasonible for a given character; a conversion that left a 1st level D&…

Hola, I have a player who'd like to convert a character from 3e to Hero ... he was playing a Barbarian. I was wondering how people would create the Rage ability that all Barbarians have. Would it be considered an Enraged with some added stats only when Enraged?

This is a magic weapon I made for a character. Its a huge piece of construct and I am not sure its done right. 40 Sword of Alexandra: (Total: 141 Active Cost, 40 Real Cost) Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 1d6 +1 (plus STR) (vs. PD), +1 STUN Multiplier (+1/4) (25 Active Points); OAF Durable Expendable (Extremely Difficult to obtain new Focus; -2), No Knockback (-1/4), Real Weapon (-1/4), Required Hands (One-And-A-Half-Handed; -1/4), STR Minimum (1-5; -1/4) (Real Cost: 6) plus Enhanced Perception (+3 to PER Rolls for All Sense Groups; Increased Arc of Perception: 360-Degree) (14 Active Points); OAF Durable Expendable (Extremely Difficult to obtain new Focus; -2) (Real C…

Ok I have a question for the GMs out there. How do work Magic Items that characters find/have made? Do you make them pay points for them or are the free like other equipment? And Why?

I was wondering, what would the ramifications be if you changed the cost of STR from 1 point to 1.5 or 2 points per STR point? What would happen to game balance as it is designed now?

I'm in the process of beginning a Hero campaign in a home-brewed world. I've got most of the "mundane" aspects of the campaign worked out, everything from the resources of given lands to who rules what lands and where. The only thing I'm having a spot of trouble with is the magic system. My players and I are rabid fans of Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar novels, and I would like to use the Hero rules system to duplicate the magic system used in the novels. Has anyone else ever worked on this particular endeavor? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Could you provide a bit more clarity on what will be in Fantasy HERO as compared to the Fantasy HERO Grimoire? Is the Grimoire ONLY going to contain spell examples? Sort of a Fantasy UNTIL Database? Or will it contain different magic systems, as well as magic items (the latter would be an EXCELLENT addition in my opinion). Or will the main FH book contain the magic systems? Also will it have extensive magic-based character packages (as well as other fantasy character archetypes and packages)? AND approximately how many actual character examples will the books have? Thanks

I'm currently trying to convert the D&D Forgotten Realms setting to HERO. I'm thinking of using a single Power = single spell system for now. The question is this: How do I best differentiate in HERO terms between the two types of magic: Arcane and divine? I don't want limits like "arcane spellcaster can't heal" or "divine spellcasters can't shoot fireballs." This isn't D&D, and I don't want that kind of arbitrary baggage. Besides, powerful mages have been healing and clerics of fire gods shooting flames for years in the D&D Realms, so that would be a bad approach anyway. I don't want to use set spell lists because, again, this is HERO, so why l…

For those who are unfamiliar with the Talislanta setting , it is a Fantasy Post-Holocaust setting, where a magical disaster has left the land reft with wild magic. Strange and alien races abound; the tagline reads, "Extensive World Setting. Updated Rules System. Still No Elves." I think there was some material for this on the old message boards. Anyone done anything with this? I think some of the races would make excellent additions to any fantasy campaign - I'm thinkin', Thralls and Neurians and Sarista, oh my!

Good morning, I have two questions with a decidedly fantasy stint. As a fan of ancient Egyptian culture I wanted to semi-recreate it a fantasy culture. As it is fantasy, there will be magic, and there is the crux of the question. What flavor do people feel Egyptian magic would have. From my studies and search the Egyptians were a very spiritual people, and the priests of the various deities had great impact on the culture. I mean they felt their pharaoh was a god. Thus, most magic would be divine in nature, practitioners would ask the various gods for favors (spells). Magic might take the form of blessings, curses, and plagues (Aids, Drains, Transforms?). I…

Just started playing Shadowbane a few days ago. I'm quite happy with it. Anyway, the game has Use Light Armor, Use Medium Armor and Use Heavy Armor as skills. Better types of armor require more skill points and the level of protection you get from a particular type of armor increases with skill. I thought this was interesting and that it could be translated into Hero. Spend a point or two to get the Armor X Skill, then spend more points to get increases in DEF/rDEF Only In X Armor. Maybe limit it to PD and Damage Resistance. Of course this does increase the tank problem. I just found it kinda neat.

I'm currently working on a Fantasy Hero character, and I need some input. It's your basic Ranger-type character, but I want him to know a few simple spells to help him out. I'm talking things like Resist Elements (Life Support or Change Environment), Healing (low-level/takes time/requires herbs), etc. The world is fairly high magic, anyone with some aptitude can learn a few household spells, but you require specialist mage training to do anything powerful. Any ideas on the sort of spells he should know? Also, anyone have an idea on how to model a spell allowing him to start a fire?? cheers oberon

Here's my first attempt at designing a Heroic magic-using character for HERO on the standard 75 +75 points. I managed to start out with a fairly useful selection of spells, but I do still have some concerns over the slow growth in this area that the "single spell = single Power" system can often mean... I'm still pretty satisfied with the character as written, though. I have only the genesis of a backstory so far, but the stats are complete. Name: Ziran Reilore Player: Will Mistretta Race: Human Gender: Male Characteristics: STR: 10, Roll: 11-, Lift 100 kg, 2d6 DEX: 14. Roll: 12-, OCV:5/DCV:5 CON: 13, Roll: 12- BODY: 10, Roll: 11- I…
