If you were putting together an "all-star" team of urban fantasy characters, who would be on your "must have" list?

Larry Correia and Hero Games are pleased to announce that they’re teaming up to produce a fan’s guide to and roleplaying game set in Correia’s “Monster Hunter International” setting, tentatively entitled The Monster Hunter International Employee’s Handbook And Roleplaying Game. The MHIEHRPG will be a full-color, hardcover book approximately 300 pages long. It will be written by award-winning RPG writer/designer Steven S. Long and will include a full version of Hero Games’s HERO System rules specifically tailored for playing in the MHI setting. Fans won’t have to buy any other books to play the game; the MHIEHRPG will have everything they need for hours of exciting ad…

I recently played MHI with a group of RPG friends, and they loved it! It was a definite hit. One friend made his character a tribute to Ash from the Evil Dead movies, and we had to wing the stats for a chainsaw. We looked online and there were at least 3 different stats on forums for a chainsaw. Is there an 'official" one somewhere? If not which set of stats would you recommend? Thanks for all the help you all have been while I get used to a new system. I love the forums here.

MHIEHRPG page 214-215 gives statistics for the AH-1W Supercobra, AH-64 Apache and MHI's MI-24 Hind. In addition to the listed machine guns / cannon and anti-tank guided missiles, the Apache (and presumably the Supercobra and Hind) can carry missile pods with the 2.76 inch FFAR rocket. What would be the game statistics for the FFAR? Also, the AGM-114 Hellfire is listed as 4d6 RKA AP Explosion, and the AT-2 as 4d6, AP x 2, Explosion. The M72A3 LAW on page 151 is 6-1/2d6 AP Explosion. According to Wikipedia the Hellfire has an 18 pound warhead, while the entire M72A3 weights 5.5 pounds. Is there any reason the M72 should do more damage?

I need a crash course in combat skills as they relate to character generation. The rule book seems fuzzy to me. Also, can anyone point to any other resources on the subject. For example, I see "+1 HTH" or "+1 with Firearms" in sample character sheets but no description of a HTH or Firearms skill in the rule set.

One of the major tropes of the monster hunter genera is that a normal human armed with only a simple sword can be a threat to huge nasty beastie because with one blow he can decapitate the meanest werewolf or vampire. So how does decapitation a head or severing a limb work in Hero? Called Shot penalty, sure. When does the head/limb get cut off?

OK, so I've got my group creating their characters for our first stab at a campaign of my own creation (more on that later). Many of them seem to be going with the Distinctive Feature by stating my "my character is really tall" or "my character has unusually bright red hair" etc... I'm cool with them letting their characters have the features and distinctions they want, but I'm having a hard time coming up with how this becomes a complication for them... Who cares if they're easily recognizable, they're not trying to hide from the law, they are the law. How else can I use their distinctive features, that aren't necessarily repugnant, in the story. Unless I'm…

Something came up recently in a comment on the Kickstarter page that I though was worth sharing here. One of the Kickstarter’s backers, Brian Smith, asked a question that I’m sure has occurred to more than one MHI fan who’s been following the project: And here’s how I responded: All that said -- we are, of course, both willing and happy to hear from MHI fans about what they want to see in the MHIEHRPG, gun-wise or other-wise.

So I'm new to the whole HERO system; I cut my teeth on Pathfinder/GURPS. This is my first attempt to use this thing and the sheer amount of stats makes my head swim a bit. I'm getting past that, sort of, but the big problem I'm hitting is... what's a reasonable stat? I mean technically I can crank these things through the roof at chargen, but I have no idea what a 'good starting template' would be. I checked out the MHI Hunter template, but that seems relatively... weak... somehow. I have -no- idea what number values to shoot for! Help!

So with it being October, the realty site my wife gets emails from sent us a link to the following: http://www.trulia.com/local/64735/type:zombie_risk_unnaturalHazards Apparently it is a modded Environmental Risk program (normally for fire, flood, etc) that has Zombie Infestation, Ghost Sighting, and Vampire Hunting Grounds as special filters. I thought someone here might get some use out of it until they take it down.

Hi there. Purchased the MHI character pack for MHI - and it's nice to have most of the basic people stats/etc. already defined - especially as it gives me a reference point for character design as I've never played the Hero system before. That said - what's driving me nuts right now is how to add - for example - the AR-10 that's part of the standard MHI template in the handbook, but NOT included anywhere in the character Pack. It doesn't get added as part of the MHI template, and none of the MHI characters who don't have a special weapon as a power ("abomination" - forex) have the standard equipment listed as part of the template. The stats are useful, but I'm not su…

I've got a similar post on a different section of the forums (http://www.herogames.com/forums/show...unter-Template ) but thought bringing it over here might start some more discussion... I finally gave into curiosity and googled MHI. Sounds interesting. Am I reading correctly that it is Dark Champions meets Buffy and parallels John Ringo's Special Circumstances? Cuz if that's the case, I definitely think I can get my table-top DnD crowd interested.

Hi all, I'm getting ready to launch an MHI Session with my group, and decided to simplify things for everyone by modifying the 6th Edition spreadsheet that's floating around out there. It doesn't look nearly as pretty, but since we're going to be playing using a virtual table top, no one is going to be printing this. I wanted to share it with the community, and since I'm apparently unable to share it by uploading it directly, here's a link to it in my Dropbox folder. *** Edit *** See link below for the sheet. Happy Hunting. T

I'm a newbie to the Hero system, haven't bought other books than Dark Champions years ago, but I'm planning to get into the game seriously. Monster Hunter International seems like a good starting point, but how complete is it in terms of rules and character options and such? Is it really a stand-alone book for a new GM to pick up for example?

Hi all. I recently found the MHI Books and loved them. Then I found the game and was excited. I have never used or played the Hero System before, but I am not new to RPG - I started with 2nd edition D&D and played all the diffrent editions since then. I have played (or ran) adventures in Fate, GURPS (a long time ago), the old FASA Star Trek, and several others I cannot remember right now. That being said I started with character Generation and figured that out easily enough and there is a lot about the system I am liking, BUT I cannot figure out how to run combat in the system. Can some one explain it to me or point me in the direction of a post I could l…

Hi, Long time gamer and huge fan of the MHI novels. Didn't realise there was a MHI game until recently and have come to have a look. In all my history of trying different rule sets, I have somehow managed to avoid the Hero System. Most of the groups I have associated with have always dismissed the Hero System as excessively complicated. Is the criticism justified? I see most praise the game for its ability to generate or replicate statistics for anything out there. How? How does this differ from other game systems? Is it easy to introduce a new gaming group to the rule set? None of my current gaming groups are interested in Hero system citing the criticisms a…

Hi Hero Gang! I am currently using Hero to run a campaign similar to the TV show Supernatural but maybe a bit more serious... Can folks recommend some products from ANY system that I could buy that I could lovingly convert to Hero? Yeah...not MHI specific but I thought it best fit this forum... *GAME ON!*

I'm working on an outline for a demo adventure to run at Cons and FLAGS. The PCs are a group of young, new monster hunters who have just set up shop in Dogpatch, Iowa. They have been marketing aggressively, getting their name out to all the local police & fire departments as well as the county sheriff's office. The adventure is divided into seven encounters. Only three of these are combat encounters. The rest are opportunities for the PCs to use their skills, interact with NPCs, and role play. One key to this adventure is that, while each PC has access to a variety of handguns, rifles, shotguns, and hundreds of rounds of conventional a…

Finally got around to picking up the RPG and prepping to run it for my gaming group. It seems a little unfortunately timed that the RPG came out Legion since there were major changes that happened in Nemesis and there was almost no time gap between Legion and Nemesis. If you are setting your game, like I will be after Nemesis there are some major changes especially with the MCB. Dwayne Myers is dead. Director Stark has "retired" from MCB for medical reasons. The new Acting Director of the MCB is Cueto. Cueto was a Strike Team "trigger puller" who worked his way up to unit commander. Described as a shaved head, muscular, grizzled looking warrior. Was a old friend and co…
