OK, so I've got my group creating their characters for our first stab at a campaign of my own creation (more on that later). Many of them seem to be going with the Distinctive Feature by stating my "my character is really tall" or "my character has unusually bright red hair" etc... I'm cool with them letting their characters have the features and distinctions they want, but I'm having a hard time coming up with how this becomes a complication for them... Who cares if they're easily recognizable, they're not trying to hide from the law, they are the law. How else can I use their distinctive features, that aren't necessarily repugnant, in the story. Unless I'm…

My group is just starting out with MHI, and during character creation one of the players noticed that Mental Defense in the MHI book lists has the following clause: I checked the NPCs in the book and the only one I saw with Mental Defense was Harbinger, and he didn't have the bonus for his Ego, nor do any of the monster entries with Mental Defense. I also have Champions Complete, so I checked the power there and didn't see the same clause. If I'm reading that correctly, a character with Ego 15 who spends one point on the power will actually get 4 points of Mental Defense (1 for 1 point, plus 15/5=3), making a single point investment in the power a great value. …

I'm working on putting together the opposition for the next session of my MHI campaign, and I've run into something that's got me confused. I'm seeing several monsters with multiple HKA Powers that look like they are there to make the monster more dangerous, but if I'm reading the rules correctly they can only use one per phase and there is no restriction on using them on subsequent phases, so I'm not really seeing the point. The Shoggoth is the most significant one that I've seen. It has three separate "Fanged Mouth" attacks and three separate "Clawed Hand" attacks that are all mechanically identical. The Gargoyle, Lindwyrm, and Invernal Soldier all have both bit…

I'm a guest at this new con: ConGregate Larry Correia is one of the main guests this year. Among other things that I'll be doing, I'm running an MHI RPG game on Sunday that he'll play in, with the other seats being auctioned off at the Charity Auction on Saturday night. Come on out and join in the fun!

So i'm in the process of building a boss for my my next session, and want to give him the ability to create images to camouflage himself (amongst other things). The language on "Targeting senses" in the book is a bit vague. The table (page 123) indicates that creating an image that effects a targeting sense group is a 10 point power. Here's my question: Does the 10 point power cover all the sense in the "sight group" So it has the ability to fool even players with infrared vision as well as those that rely on mundane vision? Seems a little overly powerful for only a 10 point power if that is the true interpretation. Thanks, Taylor

Just came across this story and while it probably has usages in other genres, I thought that the obvious arcane oriented plot hooks might fit this genre best. https://roadtrippers.com/blog/harvard-discovers-three-of-its-library-books-are-bound-in-human-flesh -Carl- EDIT: corrected terminology in subject line.

Would anyone be willing to share characters? I want to run a couple campaigns and I just haven't found time to create characters for players. I'm thinking that since this is such a time consuming aspect of this system others might benefit if there were characters posted somewhere that one could just pick up and let a player run with. I eventually want my players to create their own but I'm thinking I will lose their interest if we spend a lot of time creating characters. I know how our characters become important to us but if it was the initial character generation with no name that might not be too much of an issue. Any format works for me, I have Hero Designer, but…

Hey all, I'm running an MHI campaign in about 2 weeks and I'm world building. I picked up the Bestiary so I'd have more options than just what's at the back of the MHI book. I was wondering if pretty much everything in there would be puff apllicable and if you guys had any suggestions on how to come up with a puff for something that isn't listed in mhirpg. Thanks, Andrew

I suspected that this sort of linkage belongs here, more than say in the Dark Champions or Champions forums...If I am in error, let me know.... That said: I see possibilities here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIu85WQTPRc -Carl-

I was wondering if anyone out there has considered using "The Laundry Files" books by Charles Stross as source material for an MHI campaign. At a glance, they seem like they could be merged.

..it's pretty good. Got ideas that I'm going to use in other places, campaign concepts, etc, etc, etc... Mind you, I also can see how you'd bring Allucard (http://www.devermore.com/surbrook/adaptationsanime/hellsing/hellarucard.html) into this whole mess...what happens when a vampire becomes the nearest thing to an Eldrich Abomination that humanity can understand, and hunts monsters now because he kind of likes humans (sort of how you'd like dogs) and he's bored. And, he views other vampires and monsters as just lame posers. He's the real deal and the real monster. He just wants a good challenge...

So in looking at the power Dispel, our initially honed in on things like Mind Control, Entangle and the more offensive powers. But started thinking outside the box and quickly went beyond the limits of the MHI book. Could Dispel be used as an Anti-buff? Shut down a monsters Damage Reduction or Life Support? If so, how would that work? Would the character have to re-roll each phase, or if he hits the first time, can he just keep paying the END cost? For things like life support, if you were to successfully dispel the life support on an undead creature, would that be essentially an insta-kill?

I can't find any explanation of this in the MHI book. It's an Instant power, and I would interpret that as 1/2 phase but I've also misunderstood many a power before. Help please.

Hey folx! Just wanted to pass along the word that I'll be running a charity session of the MHI RPG at ConGregate, July 11-13 in Winston-Salem, NC. Larry Correia himself is occupying one of the chairs at the table. The other four will be auctioned off at the con's charity auction on Saturday night. The game itself will take place the afternoon of Sunday, July 13. Hope to see some of you at the table! Here's more info on the con: ConGregate

I recently noticed a familiar name in the credits of the book. I just confirmed via facebook that we both used to hang out at the same quirky coffee shop in Tampa back in the 90's. Here's one of his illustrations from the book:

OK, so I'm looking at pitting my players against a boss with damage negation, and just for the sake of this discussion, let me present a hypothetical situation: Player is carrying a H&K G3 assault Rifle. Fires a full auto burst (five rounds) at the monster's head. Let's assume for the sake of the example that he hits with all five rounds. The G3 is a 2d6+1 or DC7. With the full auto rules, each hit beyond the first adds 1 DC, so 4 addtional hits moves it up to a DC11. So to roll damage on the monster, (with a damage negation of 6 DC's) i subtract the DC's first, Moving damage roll down to 5 DC's (2d6-1) then apply the multiplier 2x for head shot, then subtra…

OK, so my group tackled the start of our MHI campaign this weekend via roll20. It was pretty slow going as we are all new to the Hero system, but overall I think it was a lot of fun. As part of their big encounter for the night, the group, playing as Trainees trying to earn acceptance into the MCB had to defeat a wight. According to the character sheet in the book, Wights have Resistant (+1/2) for 10PD / 6ED, their Characteristics stats say they have 8 PD / 8 ED (6rPD) / 6(rED), all told they've spent 20 points on their points. I can't make heads or tails of this set up. The Rules say it costs 3 character points for every 2 points of resistant defence. for 10PD …

Am I reading the rules correctly in that I can build a character with two alternate forms for 55 points? 50 points for 250 character points in the new form, +5 points to gain a third form of equal or lesser point values?

Plot seed material here, if I ever saw it. And potentially useful in other genres as well. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/mystery-of-the-lyubov-orlova-ghost-ship-full-of-cannibal-rats-could-be-heading-for-british-coast-9080103.html EDIT: The WIkipedia entry for the ship in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Lyubov_Orlova -Carl-

While a bit dated and kinda cheesy, I was thinking how the old Danger International module, S.H.A.D.O.W. over Scotland might make better fare with the supernatural option turned on, and run as an MHI-based scenario. S.H.A.D.O.W. becoming another supernatural evil organization - on perhaps opposed to MHI, etc. Any thoughts from old timers out there? Anyhow, thought strikes me. I had picked up the module the other week (for a $1) to continue to round out my Hero collection.

I finally gave into curiosity and googled MHI. Sounds interesting. Am I reading correctly that it is Dark Champions meets Buffy and parallels John Ringo's Special Circumstances? Cuz if that's the case, I definitely think I can get my table-top DnD crowd interested.

I just ordered the MHI Employee Handbook. Love the series and I'm seriously excited about the RPG. However, I live in a vacuum for this type of gaming. I ordered the book because I am a huge fan. Anyway I was wondering if there was anyone here familiar with Roll20.net I would love to get a group together weekly to play. Let me know if there is interest. I'd really like to find someone who would be willing to GM. Thanks all. Joe
