As mentioned in the Tremors IV: Thread, anything can be made pulp by simply changing the setting and making some tweaks! So I invite... nay, I DARE you to do so here. I'll start off... Predator: A group of experienced adventurers are sent deep into the jungle to find the remains of a previous expodition, only to be stalked by a hideous beast that can blend in with the surroundings. (Okay, that was an easy one, I'll try to think of something harder)

have to say, I wasn't to thrilled at first with a lot of the initial casting. Not sure why, I suppose I was just visualizing things a touch differently, and it seemed they were trying to toss in to much Xena into my REH..... However, with the recent passing of Frazetta, and going over a lot of the great Art the man produced, I couldn't help but notice when the pics of Jason Momoa started to come out as Conan, (And I defended his casting as Conan to more then a few people telling them to wait and see...)... I have to say....Dude looks like he stepped off a Frazetta Painting.....which works for me. So far really the best thing the nit pickers can Pick …

This probably belongs in NGD, but it's fun and pulpy. Yesterday, I won in a citywide impromptu speaking contest at Toastmasters. We started with nineteen contestants, then voted for the best seven, then three, then one. My first round question was: "You have just been appointed to the mayor's council on transportation. What changes do you suggest?" I immediately answered: "Zeppelins!" Then I went into all the reasons that zeppelins are totally awesome, and how it could be made even more fun by dropping passengers off with a series of bungee cords and sliding boards. I was almost unanimously voted to advance to the next round with that one.

I just thought that I would start a new thread to ask other fans of the Pulp genre what "pulp" or pulp style books they have been reading recently. Recently I have discovered a series of books featuring a two fisted American hero named "Hardluck" Hannigan , written by Bill Craig. The first book in the series is "Emerald Death" and already (i've read the first eighty or so pages ) we have an American adventurer in Africa in the 30's involved with a beautiful aviatrix, her adopted father (who apparently studied in Tibet alongside one "Kent Allard"), nazis with a giant airship (with its own squadron of fighters on board),and a race to find an emerald with mystical proper…

All right, it's that time again -- time to give us your thoughts on our upcoming RPG opus! We'd like to get your input on what you want to see in Pulp Hero. Before you comment, PLEASE READ THE OUTLINE AND DESCRIPTION I'VE POSTED BELOW. Every time I do one of these posts, I get a lot of suggestions for things that I've already explicitly stated are going to be in the book. Please, save yourself some time by checking out the description first. Along the same lines, please limit your comments to textual content only. I don't want to talk about art at this time; we'll get to that later if necessary. Please also keep in mind that I don't have time to do immense…

WORLD OF KONG INTRODUCTION The World Of Kong: A Natural History Of Skull Island is an art book filled with design and concept work from the people at Weta Workshop for Peter Jackson's film King Kong. Presented as if Skull Island really existed, the book shows dozens of animals created for the Skull Island sequences, few of which actually appeared in the final film. Each creature has a name (usually given in Latin), a translation of its name, a general size listing, and a few paragraphs of descriptive text. Material perfect for adaptation into the game system of your choice! The character sheets presented here are my efforts to offer the denizens of Skull Islan…

So, pulp buffs, what films have you run across, either period or modern, that you think are worth watching for pulp gaming purposes? To save you some time, here's the PH draft filmography as of 04/01/2005: FILMOGRAPHY The movie industry was in one of its heydays in the pulp era, giving GMs and players plenty of period films they can watch to get a feel for things (though many of those old movies aren’t available on VHS or DVD, or are rare). Rather than try to list all of them, this Filmography lists a few classics, concentrating instead on modern films and television shows depicting pulp adventures that the author particularly enjoys or thinks would…

Was thinking of getting motivated to run a Pulp campaign and was wondering what good Pulp films are out there to watch. This is what I've come up with so far: 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Temple of Doom 3. The Last Crusade 4. King Kong (2005) 5. The Mummy (1999) 6. The Mummy Returns (2001) I left kingdom of the Crystal Skull out intentionally since it takes place in the 50's but it still might fit because of the story. I know there are more Pulp films out there. I googled pulp movies but the only thing that comes up is Quentin Tarentino's very unpulp movie.

Hi Everyone, After reviewing the results of a poll (or two) that I posted it looks like people would be interested in a Pulp Hero game (which is great because I love the genre), so I am now going to be looking for people interested in playing in the game. First off, the campaign is going to be A low powered Superhero Pulp game, meaning powers, abilities, etc... are fine (Think The Shadow, Doc Savage, John Carter, Jack Fool, mad scientists & mystics, or "Daredevil" like characters set in the 1930's). The game will involve "weird science" & evil "martians" or "Moonmen" out to steal our women, "strange cults" and "mystics" out to steal our women, nazis, etc…

This thread is for character write-ups, scenario write-ups, and general chat about Chiba Bob's Pulp Hero game. Enter and be amazed with the valor of Billy Deighton and William Price of the Canadian Rocket Brigade and their perilous adventures! Walk with Jack Roscoe as he explores mysteries beyond human ken! Read about the mysterious Sarah Ann and her inner conflicts and struggles! Marvel at the beauty of the beautiful Countess Ariadni Von Hapsburg as she enacts her impulsive, wily schemes. All of these and more await in... "Fists of the Rocket Men!"

Greetings, pulpsters! I'm doing the preliminary planning for one of our upcoming Pulp Hero supplements, Thrilling Places, with the author and we wanted to get your input! Basically, this is a book of thrilling and intriguing locations for characters to have adventures, learn new skills, meet cool NPCs, and so on. Here's the blurb: So, with that in mind, what sort of locations would you like to see in this book? As you think of and make suggestions, please also try to suggest ways that each location could be made interesting and useful to players as well as GMs. What can we include that would make the locations, and thus the book, interesting t…

I'm sure plenty of you are interested in the pulp genre/era and have done your own researching and reading on the topic. What books have you run across that you'd recommend? The PH draft bibliography is already about 2,500 words long, but there's always room for more.

Since Pulp Hero is at long last off my desk entirely (the proofs having just been FedEx'd back to the printer), I thought I'd keep the ball rolling by discussing what supplements people would like to see. We're hearing a lot of enthusiasm for the book, which will hopefully translate into sales, which in turn will lead to supplements selling well. So, it can't hurt to listen to what people would like to see in supplements. Before you post, PLEASE READ WHAT I'VE WRITTEN BELOW REGARDING THE SUPPLEMENTS WE ALREADY HAVE PLANNED. It's a waste of your time and mine to suggest something we already have on the schedule or in mind. For the rest of this year, we have on t…

So, I'm gleefully browsing through my GenCon swag, one item of which is Pulp Hero. Amazing. There's a ridiculous amount of information in this book. The history timeline is just insane! I saw so many adventure idea tidbits just flipping the pages. It's nice to see the art take a step up from recent releases as well, even if much of it is reused. Still, there are some good new pieces; who did the pics of most of Randall's Heroes? "M. Calderas"? I didn't see them credited in the front of the book. The old pulp covers are also a nice touch. And the maps! Keith has outdone himself. Incredible job, DOJ!

Reading some of Christopher Lees Obituaries after yesterday I find myself thinking about real people who would make for interesting pulp heroes. In lee's case RAF intelligence officer seconded to the SAS (possibly one of the inspirations for James bond) , expert fencer, multilingual, professional actor and Stuntman direct descendant of Charlemagne. Also Buster Keaton Physical Phenomenon pioneering stunt man jackie chan before there was a jackie chan Parkourist before parkour watch this video and tell me he wouldn't be an amazing pulp hero so who else would you suggest

In the Expanded Raider-verse, what level of paranormal anything can be reached before it becomes Call of Cthulhu? Relics/artifacts work - a given. Fetish Magic - see the voodoo doll in the novelization of Temple of Doom. Potent Mesmerism - see the voodoo prince in the novelization of Temple of Doom. Classic Wicca - the original novel Indiana Jones and the White Witch ESP - see Colonel Doctor Irina Spalko in the novelization of Crystal Skull.

Hey there, armchair historians. In preparation of a campaign I am working on, I have to ask: Which leader do you think was most instrumental in defeating Germany? You know, besides Hitler.

Hey guys! Please do check this book out- it's really excellent, and we'd love to continue doing more Pulp Hero support stuff, but we need to hear from you that there's an audience for it. It's available in the store in both hardcopy and PDF formats, as well as at your finer FLGS's everywhere. Thanks! dw

O.k. let's try the kind of thread that everyone either loves or hates. We'll all make a charecter. After I start, each succesive post fills in the next piece. As I've started the thread I get to do the first three. The charecter is a male named Dex Kiran. He is a two fisted hero type based on 75 base points and 75 disads. Obviously we next move on to stats. So the next post assings str, the post after dex. You can assign whatever you like, but be sure to post point costs. Espically when we get to skills and perks. Cause we have to switch to disads at 150.

Howdy, folx! Several of you asked me to post reports if I ever started a PH campaign, so since I kicked one off last night, I figured I’d oblige. These reports are likely to be much shorter and briefer than some others we see posted, because (a) I don’t want to spend too much time on them, and ( since I plan to use a lot of HPAs, or turn other adventures I run into HPAs down the road, I don’t want to give away too many details. Dramatis Personae Before I launch into a review of the first game, I should tell you about the characters and players: Roy Austin, Aviator and Scientist (played by John Losey) Jake Brand, Treasure Hunter (played by Dean Nicholson) …

Here's an article from National Geographic about some research/exploration at the Tunguska site. Looks like pulp-adventure-seed material to me. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/11/071107-russia-crater.html
