{Standard disclaimer: As always (or at least almost always) I am looking at 5th Edition stats and concepts.....thanks.} After re-watching (for perhaps the 15th time) the 1937 film version of James Hilton's Lost Horizon this morning I found myself toying with the idea of a campaign where the PC's are, as the subject line suggests, agents of the lamasery in the Valley of the Blue Moon. Not that they would come and go from the valley, or even fully know of its existence. Rather I am considering what might be a motley group of 'do gooders' who could be involved in endeavors ranging from the collection of items of wisdom for shipment to the lamasery, to perhaps even forest…

When a notable person displeased crime lord Big-eared Tu (Tu Yueh-sheng of Shanghai's Green Gang, the most powerful man in China), he made a practice of sending a coffin to the offender's home. Reparations were hasty.

Saw this blog post I found while searching for something else and thought I'd pass it along. While it's intended for police work, it definitely looks like something a mad scientist would bulid. And if you're wondering who in blazes would have thought this up--just check the name of the author.

I don't think I ever posted this. It's a little something I threw together a while back. I realized that dinosaurs (true dinosaurs, not to include marine lizards, flying reptiles, etc) didn't really vary all that much. By grafting a few options onto a generic framework, pretty much any known dinosaur can be recreated in Hero terms. This isn't incredibly polished, but it may be useful to someone out there.

As this is the hero system web site, I think it safe to say we can agree Pulp Hero is the best pulp game out there. But what would be your second choice? I know of only two pulp themed games. Adventure a part of the trinity universe, and Spirit of the Century. I'd have to put the order 1.Pulp Hero 2.Spirit of the Century 3.Adventure. Are there any others, and what would you put in the second spot?

Not precisely Pulp, but pretty much close enough: Please check it out and support the project! It's not listed up there yet, but I'm going to be writing one of the stretch goal adventures. It's a great scenario that's easily adaptable to Pulp Hero, so I'd really like to write it.

If you have a spiritualist or other occult sort in a pulp campaign, you can Do Things to that character for what seems like spurious reasons of national security. From a book I just finished.... On Tuesday, 25 November 1941 HMS Barham was sunk by U-331 in the Mediterranean, losing 862 of 1258 aboard. The U-boat went deep immediately to evade depth charge attack, and while it did escape, they didn't see the sinking or identify what they'd hit. The Royal Navy intercepted and decoded the U-Boat skipper's report afterward; he reported that he had torpedoed an unknown British battleship with unknown effect. So the navy suppressed the news, waiting several weeks to inf…

One of the last foiled operations in Fu Manchu's timeline was some kind of attempt to disrupt the Munich Conference in 1938. Now his goal was to first ensure China's unity and independence and to make it a great power. Bearing that in mind, what do you suppose the scheme that Nayland Smith foiled was?

Link To Blogsite While for the purposes of Pulp Hero the "pulp" era ends at 1940, this blogsite features pulp mags from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and shows us that masculine high adventure can be found after--and during--World War II. And there are more than a few adventurous women as well, from scantily clad women who fight Nazis to scantily clad women who are Nazis. If you're looking for over-the-top adventure with a strong element of spice, this is the place for inspiration. P.S. While there's no overt nudity, I would wait until you get home to open the site. Seems fairly tema by today's standards, but you never know. . .

Im going to have a Pulp Hero game at 3pm at 2720 e madison (if you need a bus, its #11) There will be pre-made characters, paper miniatures, popcorn, and fun! RSVP rjb9@yahoo.com oops forgot to mention im in seattle Well, it's been a week. No RSVPs, no interest of any kind. I may as well just bag it. This may not be a dying game, but the genre seems to be as dead as the proverbial doornail. Pity, but I may just have to rethink this hobby.

From 4-15 National Geographic: Italian archaeologists working at the Greco-Roman site of ancient Hierapolis (modern-day Pamukkale) in Turkey have uncovered that city's gate to the underworld. Pilgrims from around the classical world came to Hierapolis to bathe in its hot springs and worship at the Ploutonion—a temple precinct built over a cave and underground thermal area. By tracing the path of the hot springs through the ancient site, the team from the University of Salento, led by Francesco D'Andria[/url=https://www.unisalento.it/web/guest/scheda_personale?p_p_id=SchedaUtentePortlet_WAR_SchedaUtentePortlet5121&p_p…
