Hey all you herophiles out there... I've been contemplating running a pulp game for some time now, but I can't decide what time period to start. My original idea was to start in the 1920s, with a globetrotting adventure game, but there's a lot of technology that hadn't been invented yet. So, I've decided to ask for help. I've decided to write up characters for my players, so I know them a little better when we start, and I also don't have to sit here and listen to them complain about creating characters. So, here's a list of the characters I've got. What time period do you think they'd best be suited for? An All American football player, male, who's bee…

Just wondering how people would do a blowgun (as used by the natives at the start of "Raiders Of The Lost Ark") in "Pulp Hero" ? I'm guessing that the darts are either a Drain or an NND Attack (defence being more than a certain amount , say 5 or 10 points, of PD). Now the question comes up as to the range of such a weapon. Throwing ranges are normally based on Strength but I was wondering whether "blowing " ranges might be based on Con or End ? Further what sort of range would we give to a blowgun 1" per 5points of end /con? Any ideas would be appreciated as I have a player joining the game who may be interested in using such a weapon (he has a "Code Against Killing" dis…

I'm running a Lost Worlds PBP campaign and I needed some clipart to represent an NPC Sailor of the period. I remembered one of Steve Mqueen's finest films "The Sand Pebbles". doing a search I ran across this site It has a wealth of information on not only the movie but the actual events and the history of the Yangtze patrols. This info is not only invaluable for adventure resources it could really help in character backgrounds. espescially in instances where the character needs to justify knowing how to speak chinese or maybe how he learned Kung Fu. anyway, good stuff and worth a look.

I ran across a movie this weekend that really surprised me. It was called “The Quest”, It starred Jean-Claude Van Damme a B-list movie star who had a string of successful action movies in the 90’s. The Quest absolutely drips with pulpy goodness. Van Damme plays a pick-pocket in depression-era New York who somehow finds his way to representing the United states in a secret martial arts tournament in Asia. It’s billed as a martial arts film but don’t be fooled, the movie is a pulp masterpiece worthy of any of the magazines of the era. This movie has: • Chinese Pirates • Exotic locales • A heavyweight boxing champ named “Maxie” Devine • A Feisty girl-reporte…

I was reading the thrilling places thread and heard mention that the book was available in pdf. I went to the online store and saw that a print copy was $26.99 and a PDF copy went for $18.99 maybe i'm wrong, but shouldnt a pdf product have a CONSIDERABLY discounted price over a print product? I mean, i'm using my paper, my ink, etc. the savings appears to be all in the retailers favor. I don't mean to sound cheap but my free-wheeling days of buying any supplement that hits the racks are long gone. I now have a family and a very tight gaming budget, so i need to make my bucks stretch as far as I can. and PDF's help me strecth my dollars. I'm thinking that a PD…

Hi Hero Gang: I'm thinking about running a sort of pulp/steampunk campaign and I am looking for good RPG resources. I've narrowed it down to these two books. If folks have these books which one would you recommend OR would you recommend something else? Note that I have Pulp Hero already. The two books I am considering are GURPS Steampunk or Space 1889. Thanks!

Hey all!I just wanted to update everyone on the progress over at the NEW and IMPROVED Pulp Project 1557 wiki. I am about 85%-90% finished with porting over the data from the old site on SeedWiki. It has been a long and strenuous journey (as I'm essentially doing it all myself), but I can see the end! Please feel free to visit, and if you're so moved, add content. We take just about everything over there, including images (please keep it clean, we are a family operation...). You will need to register with WetPaint (thanks spammers!) to edit, but once you do, it's dirt easy to add info. Come on over! Hank Pulp Project 1557 wiki Coordinator

Though a few centuries earlier than our regular area of operations, I figured if it's REH then it's Pulp. There is a new “QuickTime” Solomon Kane Indy film out. More info on my Blog.

Great White/Pinnacle Games has been putting out some pulp-related material lately. Wonder why it took them so long? Anyway, it's the Savage system, but some of the stuff might be useful resource material for GM's using Pulp Hero, as well as some stuff that might even be worth converting to Hero. Check out the new stuff here http://www.peginc.com/ -ME

The reason H.Hoover is famous in Europe, his post WW1 relief efforts: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=email_en&refer=europe&sid=akEWiS14N480 This is a good article with some interesting facts. The money he raised for relief was HUGE in modern terms (in modern dollars over 50 Billion). The article did not mention the fact that Herbert was a "dollar a year man", meaning he was a goverment employee paid a dollar a year, but given sweeping powers in a limited area.

There are actually a few of these sorts that make the rounds of defense contractors from time to time. "X-wing" Helicopters, Advancing blade concepts, compound choppers. Here's a couple that flew, and a few that haven't. Yet. http://www.helis.com/50s/h_rotdyn.php And yes, a video of it flying: A modern Rotodyne derivative: http://www.cartercopters.com/ (Check out the videos) Now, some that haven't, all of these are post-WW2. In the interest of keeping information fresh, I just wanted to let everyone here know that Pulp Project 1557 has moved to a new site: http://project1557.wetpaint.com/ The move became necessary after we had been hit by a number of spammers. The site is viewable to all, but in order to edit it, you need to register (free). I would encourage everyone here to review the material and add their comments. Also, I am still moving pages over from the old site. Any assistance there is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Hank

Hi all, I'm new to these forums and a recent buyer of Pulp Hero, but I thought I'd share this bit of news: Mexican archeologists make major Aztec find MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican archeologists have made the most significant Aztec find in decades, unearthing a 15th century altar and a huge stone slab at a ruined temple in the throbbing heart of Mexico City. The works were uncovered last weekend at the Aztec empire's main Templo Mayor temple, near the central Zocalo square, which was used for worship and human sacrifice. It was the most meaningful find since electricity workers stumbled upon an eight-tonne carving of an Aztec goddess at the same site…

Located at: http://www.cimmay.us/grant.htm The document was originally written in 1909, and the page warns that it's probably more fiction than history, but since when has that stopped a pulp GM from getting an idea from anything? File is a PDF of about 800k in size.
