The ship has: SPEED: 3 Corellian Mark 25 Displacement Drive: Teleportation 20m, MegaScale (1m = 10 lightyears; +4 1/2) (110 Active Points); Extra Time (requires 4 hours to prepare for a displacement) (4 Hours, -3), Increased Endurance Cost (x4 END; -1 1/2), Requires A PS: Operate Displacer Drive Roll (Skill roll; -1/2), Limited Maneuverability (-1/4) Assuming the galaxy is 100,000 LY across... How ling would it take this ship to cross the galaxy? How far can it go in 24 hours?

Greetings! I'm looking at starting a Star Hero campaign some time in the future and was wondering how you figure out crew size? Is it just an arbitrary number you pluck out of the ether? Do you try and judge what's right based on the ship size/function? As far as I can tell there are no rules that govern what a ship may need. Thanks in advance.

Previously: ... The aberration’s physical appearance confounded the crew. At once impossibly twisted yet shamefully intriguing, its hermaphroditic form both repulsive and nearly impossible to turn away from. It completed its chorus to some unfathomable god within the Warp and continued the dance begun by its host’s unsuspecting sacrifice. In response the Warp Storm raged, unleashing increasingly incomprehensible and destructive fury, engulfing the plasma sphere and everything else in the center of the raydome. “By the Mad Core and the Lords Grimnyr… NOT AGAIN!!!” Screamed Chy’p, witnessing the unmitigated power of a Warp Storm firsthand for an incomparable secon…

I was watching a drone racing competition on TV and decided it had a place in my science fiction society. After all, people in the future will need entertainment like we do today. And it looks futuristic, especially with all the trappings. Despite movies like Rollerball and Running Man, I don't see a lot of ultraviolent sports in my future society, although combat sports will still be around. Maybe robot combat will be a popular alternative, as will virtual reality combat, like the old BattleTech Centers in the 1990s. Laser tag is still around, even though it's past its heyday. Of course, there's more to entertainment than sports. …

The cortical stack from the Altered Carbon books and TV show is a fascinating (and in many ways horrifying) technology for cyberpunk and transhumanism settings. For those unfamiliar with the term, it is a device that records and stores a human's consciousness, memories, skills and personality. It allows a human to transfer their consciousness to another body, either nearby or far away, and achieve virtual immortality. My question is, how do you build it in Hero System terms? My current thinking is to base its cost on Eidetic Memory, since that was the closest existing ability I could think of and the point cost is manageable even for no…

So, I had hunkered down to flesh out a few solar systems for my Star Hero game (based on the Alien Legion comic book) and, being an artist, was not excited about the math... Then it dawned on me - It's 2024 and AI is REAL!!! I then rushed to my new best campaign creation tool and asked it for help... This took Chat GPT less than 30 seconds (note that ChatGPT inferred that I was talking about AUs and added it to its answers): ME: Determine orbital distances for 10 planets by rolling 1d6 divided by 10, then multiplying by 1 + (2d6/10) for each subsequent planet. …

My group had our character creation session for the new campaign using Mongoose’s Pirates of Drinax campaign setting this weekend. It was quite a lot of fun, like a time-compressed pre-campaign session, and everyone had a great time following their character’s life paths. One character started out with a fantastic stat set (three 12s rolled in front of me) and the other two were closer to average. Of those other players, one had his best stat as his social standing, and the third was fairly average with social standing as his dump stat (a five as I recall). Because there was a pretty big difference in the totals of their characteristics, we all decided to let …

This thread is similar to the Random Links thread in the NGD. It's for scifi-related videos, articles, pictures, etc. for topics that don't quite fit anywhere in the threads here. If you find something interesting but don't really want to start a new discussion about the topic, feel free to post it here.

Has anyone created racial packages for races found in the Mass Effect video game? Asari, Drell, Elcor, Hanar ,Keepers, Salarian, Turian, Volus, Batarians, Collectors, Geth, Krogan, Quarians, Rachni, Reapers, Vorcha, Yahg, Leviathans all seem like perfect editions to Star HERO. What about the alien races of HALO? Star Wars races??? Other? Note - I have Star Trek HERO - The Unofficial Guide for 5E, that includes racial packages for Klingons, Gorn, Tholians, Orions and more - Awesome stuff!

So I'm working on this thing I abandoned about 10 years ago called The Kirby Sanction. Takes place on an alternate Earth called Tellus and there's a lot of psionic powers, cyberwear, conspiracies and power-mad corporations and ambitious religious leaders. One of the character types is a Trajik. I'm using a combination of Enraged and No Conscious Control to trigger powerful "Curses." Do you think this is correct, or should I be looking at Triggers for all of it? Part of the problem is that I wrote most of it 10 years ago, so my notes contain powers, rules, vehicles that might be someone else's work. (Almost certainly the vehicles. I do not recall creating that…

As time passes, the holidays that people desire changes as well as the way they celebrate them. Those that today we believe are eternal will fade away and those traditions connected with them will face similar problems. People though need things to look forward to. If society doesn't give them holidays they will generate their own. Usually they will be centered around items they feel are important to them. What are some things that people are likely to turn into a holiday? What current holiday is likely to disappear?

How to deal with these cyberpsychotic full body conversions in Hero? Are there any guidelines for SP conversions anywhere? Cyberware I think I can handle...possibly.

In most fantasy campaigns it seems as though religion and gods are everywhere. There might be more gods than there are those who would like to worship them. However, as society develops the gods seem to disappear. Many would say that people stop believing in them. I refuse to accept this. Looking at reality, religion is still as strong as it ever was, just not in the same way. This indicates that the need for gods is still prevalent today, but SF games seldom seem to include them. What are some ways that you have included religion and gods in a scifi game? How well did it work out? Were they extensions of current religions or some new ones? Any other comment…

I understand why there are lightsabers in Star Wars; the Jedi Order is (or was) a part of the setting. But there are other examples of swords in scifi. Klingons have the bat'leth. The Narn and Centauri have their own blades. Traveller, Warhammer 40000, and Halo all include swords in their arsenals. But why? Swords aren't used in combat nowadays, and they aren't about to make a comeback in the battlefield anytime soon. Why would they make a comeback in the far future? The Traveller rpg has some explanation: Swords are used instead of guns to prevent damaging internal systems when fighting on board a starship. They are a feature on sword & planet…

In my Pirates of Drinax campaign, some of the characters are fighter pilots, so I came up with some ranged martial arts maneuvers they could use. Fighter Pilot Skills 3 Defensive Shot: 1/2 Phase, -1 OCV, +2 DCV, Range +0, Weapon Strike 5 Dodge/Jink: 1/2 Phase, -- OCV, +4 DCV, Dodge All Attacks, Abort; FMove 4 Trained Shot: 1/2 Phase, +2 OCV, +0 DCV, Range +0, Weapon Strike 0 Weapon Element: Vehicle Weapons What might be some other maneuvers a skilled fighter pilot would have, like Maverick from the Top Gun movies?

I may have mentioned here and there a Star Wars Hero game... I've now been running it for a couple of months. I've written up a document for it, which contains rules info and session write-ups, here.

In the future, it will become harder for people to tell the difference between us using historical methods, such as Chinese, American, English, black, Hispanic, etc. This will be because people will be mixing more than they have ever before, regardless if they are in space, on some planet, asteroid, or any other place. Those historical differences will disappear. However, humans being the separatist creatures that they are will develop other ways to separate themselves according to new lines in the future. Here are some forms I have considered - Spacer - These people live all to most of their lives off planet. Their entire existence is the ship, stat…

I was working with ChatGPT 3.5 tonight and asked it this. “List Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics” It came back with this. “Sure, here are the three laws of robotics as formulated by Isaac Asimov. 1. A robot may not injure” And that was it. I tried asking it several different ways, and it kept cutting off at the same point. I’ve ever seen it truncate a short answer like that before. While I could get it to give me the second and third laws by asking for them directly, it would not give me the complete first law. Kind of weird.

The Questions forum is for 6e, and this is based on a 5e Star Hero book so I hope this thread is in the right place. If not then I'd be grateful if it could be moved to where it needs to be. In Scourges of the Galaxy (page 66), the Lord Vorpal's Snicker-Snack is statted as a Major Transform with a standard effect of 105 points, enough to transform a 104-BODY star into a black hole. But normally Transform needs to total twice the BODY of the target to take effect, and the Snicker-Snack has the All Or Nothing limitation so it needs to do this in one shot. Is there a rule somewhere in 5e that says objects only need to take their full BODY, and not twi…

I’m considering starting a campaign, maybe twenty to thirty sessions, in a setting where Han Solo and Mal Reynolds would be at home. Usually, I create giant sandboxes and give the players a lot of input. But some of the players prefer a more linear story. (I think it helps them evaluate how they are doing. Although, personally, I rate rpg’s on laughs and gasps.) So, this time I’m looking at a “Treasure Hunt in Space” or “Indiana Jones in Space” type of story. Have you done anything like this before? Do you have any thoughts about pitfalls to avoid? What would make interesting high-tech treasure? What are some high-tech clues to follow?

I recently picked up the new Star Trek: Lower Decks Campaign Book and was perusing it for ideas when I came across a mention of what subjects that science officers might specialize in. Two such mentioned science specialties caught my attention because they just seemed to come in from far out in left field: dentistry and podiatry. My imagination immediately began wondering what a medical officer specializing in podiatry or maybe even xenopodiatry might have to deal with on a Star Fleet vessel. Then I started wondering if there were other oddball sciences that people have seen characters take, and if they somehow proved useful.

[EDIT: Someone has rightly pointed out that this discussion would be more appropriate for another forum, so I will be re-posting it there. Please disregard the post. Thank you.] I'm curious -- how does your table handle the "vehicles for vehicles/bases" rules when designing bases or vehicles? Some thoughts... At one end of the spectrum, "The Ultimate Vehicle" includes an example of an elevator on p. 167 as a vehicle. This seems unnecessary to me: surely an elevator or a turbolift can be considered "everyvehicle/everybase" equipment? As a more central position, that same book describes defining missiles as vehicles, and gives examples of various types …

Hey everyone, looking for some feedback. For my game this progression makes a lot of sense but still interested in hearing some feedback. I don't like the one in the book going only to 10. There isn't enough examples and not enough diversity. The book recommends a -3 to rolls for every tech level you are short. I use -2 because the list is much larger going to 20. I only use 3 examples of tech in each level range for simplicity. If my players ask about something not on the list, I just assign what tech level it would be around. Each example has a range. For example, particle beams at 11.1 - 12 is just the beginning, could easily have tech level 18 particle beams. Also, th…
