For folks who pay attention to FFE, yes, I'm that Don McKinney... legacy Traveller errata, Mongoose Zhodani book, etc. My local gaming group wants to return to HERO, but the last time we all played was 4th. Looking to combine my T5 and other efforts, since everyone but me wants to give HERO a new shakeout. So, is there anyone who has done some preliminary work on converting TH to HERO 6th, and is there enough interest that I would start collecting TH errata/material. Sadly, I know a TH CD is not an option.

Some of you may remember Winchell Chung, aka Nyrath. He owns the Atomic Rockets site and used to be active in the Star Hero forum. I just learned on another board that he is gravely ill. I wanted to confirm it before posting here. I have found his tweet about his condition. If you want to send him well wishes, you can add to the notes here. I cross-posted the news in the NGD.

With the great abundance and variation of spacecraft that exists in the different scifi stories, games, and other methods that people have to entertain each other, they have developed many different abilities, styles, functions, features, and other elements. Due to the extensive list, I will not attempt to make a list and allow everyone to mention their preferred craft and give the reason for it. The only requirement that they must share is that they allow reasonable transport from one planet to another. Weapons, armor, FTL, sensors, and other abilities will all be special features unique to the vehicle and system and need to be described.

I vaguely recall coming across a discussion of how to simulate the seven lightsaber forms practiced by the Jedi in the forums years ago, but my Search Fu has failed me. Perhaps it once existed but has since been deleted. Does anyone else recall this, or am I suffering from the Mandela Effect?

These felt right, and I worked with the data I gleaned from the Battletech: A Game of Armored Combat box set, and other sources I forgot. BT damage to Hero Damage Classes: 1 (LRM damage, light machine guns, 6 damage classes) = 2d6 2 (SRM damage, machine guns, AC/2 etc., 9 damage classes) = 3d6 3 (Hvy machine guns, 10 damage classes) = 3d6+1 4-5 (RAC/5, AC/5, flamer, pulse laser, 12 damage classes) = 4d6-1 10 (AC/10, large pulse laser, ER PPC, etc., 13 damage classes) = 4d6 15 (Heavy PPC, ER PPC, 14 damage classes) = 4½d6 20 (AC/20, 15 damage classes) = 5d6-1 25 (Long Tom, 17 damage classes) = 5d6+1 30 (Long Tom flechette ammo against infa…

Anyone using Star Hero for Trek? I'm pretty sure I have seen PDFs in 4th Edition for such a game. If you have used it, has it been effective? I'm thinking of doing a game. Drawbacks? Suggestions? Generally I run every Hero game of mine just using the main 5e book--not going into the alternate genre books (i.e. Hero books that aren't Superhero genre). Except for space stuff for some reason. Like, if I'm running a spy game, I just use the main 5e book. But I've had recent experiences that have shown me the other books are the smart way to go. I think I used to have more time, and now I appreciate more that the Hero book catalog can save …

I'm planning on a campaign which part of it takes place in WestWorld, Shogun World, etc. I was curious if anyone had a write-up on a WestWorld Host? My assumption on characteristics, are very similar to a human and they react to damage the same, but if their "switch" is activated, they operate similar to an automaton on damage reaction (no stun) and perhaps some heightened characteristics. Would this be written up as a "Multi-form" or perhaps just have a Multipower/VPP that has these features when activated...

So minor gripe. Really dislike how Hero books handle sensors, specifically the whole VPP thing. I get it, easier and probably cheaper than listing all the sensors on a ship but seems like it's a "cheat". So wondering what sensors would you put on a ship, or a multipurpose hand held unit, or maybe a super hero suit of armor. Detect environment Detect Energy Detect life Detect Physical Object (aka RADAR)

In most scifi systems the issue of money will usually be hand waved away as a non issue or all economic systems will generally be handled by a generic credit system that seems to work every where and place. The author will usually be lazy and copy reality by saying that people still use plastic cards or something similar, but look at what changes have been made since the mid-1980's. It's only reasonable to believe that one, two, or more centuries down the road people will eliminate the plastic cards and replace them with something that would be harder to loose, fool, copy, and has many more properties. I also doubt that people would use a generic term as "credit "…

Technobabble(a portmanteau of technologyand babble),also called technospeak,is a form of prose using jargon, buzzwords, esoteric language, specialized technical terms, or technical slang that isincomprehensible to the listener. Various fields of practice and industry have their own specialized vocabularies (jargon) that allowthose educated within that industry to concisely convey ideas that may be confusing, misleading, or nonsensical to an outside listener.(source wikipedia) Inother words, technobabble are those words or phrases you hear in most science-fiction genres to describe something. For someone like me,who is not a scientist or considered “technologically …

Astronomers have discovered the primary world of some alien life that exists in some scifi story, be it ST, SW, B5, Farscape, or essentially any other scifi. The only catch is that this is the real world and real astronomy with real equipment and scientists, nothing fantastic or using terms and technology that does not actually exist. On each post someone will state one alien and then the next person will have to state how the current science community would see that planet. First up: Vulcan

I've had the Terran Empire book for years and just now read it. I like the idea of the setting, but there are a lot of decisions made in the book that don't make a lot of sense. Does anyone actually use it or know about it, though? Would it be worth trying to have a discussion to hash them out?

By 'ancients', I mean people my own age, really. I've spent a lot of time reading old forum posts lately. There is a wealth of really interesting and amazing content. I've been using the 'search' feature and then working my way through dozens or even hundreds of pages of old posts. I've been particularly interested in conversions from other SF RPGs and original designs for cyberware and bioware, weapons, armor, battlesuits and mecha. One problem though is dead links. The Waybackmachine helps with some of it but not everything. There are a couple of things referenced in multiple places that I haven't been able to find. One is weapon…

Reticulax Repulsoids The Reticulax Repulsoids have only cartilage analogs and hate holding them together. Morphologically similar to armored 4-armed snakes, they are actually a form of evolved spite. They care for nothing and no one. They are immune to pain. I had dealings with a group of Repulsoids while working at Research-o-Rama. The Bloody Moon sect had informed me of a cache of "scientific equipment" stored in a disused shuttle bay in the jungles of Praxima II. Quickly assembling a crack team from the University Inebriax Burger Bar and Gyration Dome, we set out to recover the gear. We found the shuttle bay with a Repulsoid landing craft inside. Whi…

How can you reasonably reflect the amount of knowledge held by an AI with Eidetic Memory (or a PC, for that matter)? Trying to account for all the different areas of knowledge they've been exposed to, or could have researched during non-adventuring time, rapidly becomes a huge hole to pour points into. Yet to say that they only have access to those knowledge areas they've paid points for is to reduce the Eidetic Memory talent to "they can remember those things that happen during active gaming sessions." 5th Ed rulebook pg. 461 describes the ECSP-7000 Shipboard Computer. Among its attributes are three Entertainment Skills: Popular Movies 8-, Popu…

The typical way of doing Tractor Beams for starships seems to be Telekinesis, and that does seem to fit the bill pretty well. But it gets expensive, especially if you're trying to make one strong enough to hold another ship from getting away. What do you guys think about doing a crude tractor beam as Clinging, with the Ranged advantage and the limitation that once it is activated the relative positions between the two vehicles cannot be changed. You have to turn off the power, make the adjustments to relative positions, then turn the power back on again. If you wanted, you could also add the limitation that it only works along one axis of the shi…
