I have the 6e hardcover. Does the one for 5e have anything different in it, other than using 5e builds?

Of all the Stellaris Faction this was the one I always wanted to play, but could not because I lacked the Ethics covergence nessesary for it. With the new Ethics Attraction system (especially after I worked through how it and the Factions work) that is no longer the case. I can finally play Space Nazi/Rome. Background: The UN-Sponsored Ulysses Initiative oversaw the construction of six great ark ships in low orbit of earth at the end of the 21th century. The ships were fitted with powerfull but unstable wormhole generators and sent towards distant stars, carrying a quarter million colonsis each. None were heard from again and Research into Subspace Wormholes was soo…

Hello everyone, Did anyone make xenomorphs, yautja and colonial marines for HERO System? I would love to run an Alien vs Predator game, run like the way I imagined the movie to be instead of the horrifically lame movies from 2004 and 2007. I would also like to see Ellen Riley and Dutch team up, so if anyone ever stated them out- that would be a big help! Let me know, Grandmaster GM

Another of the Mirovandia Empires. And the bane of my first Attempt (wich I kind of lost utterly): http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/95191-sl-democratic-mirovandia-mandate/ Species Description: "Due to our short living times we Mirovandia were always a fractured people, yet mostly we managed to maintain the peace. That changed with the development of experimental Wormhole drives. Arguments lead to Conflict. Conflict to nuclear exchange. As a result our home was becomming uninhabitable quickly. At least at this time we reached a consensus: Each of the large Factions of the final war would take one of the ships to carry them to a new homeworld. Who is right will n…

So Stellaris 1.5 is out and I decided to do something intersting: One species. Several possible Government. I created them all beforehand and set them to "maybe spawn". Species Description: "Due to our short living times we Mirovandia were always a fractured people, yet mostly we managed to maintain the peace. That changed with the development of experimental Wormhole drives. Arguments lead to Conflict. Conflict to nuclear exchange. As a result our home was becomming uninhabitable quickly. Ben Miller, The Aliens Are Coming! The Extraordinary Science Behind Our Search for Life in the Universe (Little, Brown, 2016) (Amazon UK link - Amazon US link) Note: this is not a critical review - it's a recommendation. Ben Miller is better known as a comedian and film and TV actor (notably one half of the British duo Armstrong and Miller). Less well known is that he was studying for his PhD in physics when his comedy career took off. The Aliens Are Coming! is a popular science book looking at the chances of intelligent life developing on other planets, and our chances of communicating them. Along the way, it introduces and explains what Miller describes as "som…

The plethora of rules options make ship to ship combat laborious. Are there any examples of starship combat using Hero rules? Some questions: What if the crew (the players) have different SPDs than the ship? What effect does that have? Can the ship make a full move and the gunners still fire? If the ship is travelling at non-combat speed, can the gunners still fire? Will they suffer the same non-combat OCV penalty as the ship? If a ship has multiple weapons, can they all be fired at once? Combined Attack or Multiple Attack? etc. Star Hero makes reference to a book, "Hero System Vehicles", which doesn't seem to exist.

I have been thinking about a few things regarding history and the people before us. And what that might say for our future. When talking about past people, we have a tendency to look down on them. They knew less about the world. They were more bound up in superstition. They made stupid mistakes. But maybe the sum of thier knowledge is not significantly less then ours? Maybe thier knowledge just a had a different focus? See, a peasant lived in a time where farming communities had to be self sufficient. Limited travel for people, messages and goods meant that no real specialisation could take place. The average peasant needed to know about stuff like farming, build…

The next Update is looking better each and every week. Still it will be at least 3 weeks until it will we get even a release date. Time for another play on the unexpected: The Mahogany, Fanatic Individualist/Xenophobe Plantoids. One of the odder "Hegemonic Imperialist" AI types. Description: "The Mahogany are a species of 300 feet tall, firebreathing treeoids. As a result of thier long lifespan and slow learning, thier soceity is incredibly factured. While most people wonder how they manage to function as a soceity despite of it, they believe they are special because of it. No goverment form other then Democracy seems viable for them. While they are open to negotiate…

A society that crosses many star systems will need to operate in a manner similar to what it does today, only on a much greater scale. The government will still need to govern the people and businesses by any means available, possibly the same as what is used today. Even businesses will operate the same way, using the same tricks to convince people to purchase what they do not want or need. The question here is what will these future businesses be selling? It could be essentially the same as a modern device or service or this product or service would be tailored to the future society.

http://imgur.com/gallery/S82QF I ran across this nice IMGUR thread, and felt it went along with the "Danger! Humans!" thread, just from a different angle. Basically, humans are dangerous, breathing that deadly gas and with their venomous, micro-organism laden bite, but they're also prone to trying to hug almost any fauna they come across. Enjoy. Maybe.

With the next big Update (Banks/1.5) still being a bit of a time out, time to start another odd Empire. There is a kind of "Fallback Personality", called "Hegemonic Imperialist". Basically any "agressive Conqueror" that does not fall into another category. The thing is, there are rare cases when both Xenophilia and Individualism can fall into it. The Korinth are such a case: Collectivists/Fanatic Xenophilia. Wich results in "Hegemonic Imperialists". Backstory: I figured they had some kind of past with Fanatic Xenophobia born from Individualism. So they went all out for Xenophilia, "if you want it or not". Once in contact with other Species, they realised those had t…

Any thoughts on what might be some guidelines or ideas for Dune Hero; figure on non-Atreides-seeing-into-the-future characters and NPCs to avoid that can of worms. Mentats would be fun to make, methinks.

One of the things I seem to have trouble conveying to my players is how things appear in my games. How do buildings and spacecraft look? What are people wearing? After all, Star Wars and Star Trek look quite different from each other. My game, being set in the near future, wouldn't resemble either one. I was watching 2001: A Space Odyssey the other day and pretty much everything clicked. Clavius Station and the Discovery One would be perfect for my game, as would the space station and space plane. Other visuals would include Babylon 5, as O'Neill Cylinders do exist in my game. The uniforms look good too. Military spacecraft look like the Cold Navy line of miniatur…

When we start thinking about the great expanse of space and what kind of beings might inhabit it, one thing we tend to do is think of how dangerous 'the other' could be. We do this on earth, of course, when we discuss how humans aren't the fastest, strongest, most poisoness, etc. But what if we have it all wrong? What if we are just about he pentacle of dangerous beings? The following is a joking short of an alien anthropologist discussing humans. Enjoy! Soar.

So, I've had an internal debate about starting this thread since the original was destroyed years ago when the HERO forums rebooted. Finally, I decided that I will restart the TGU thread from days of old. Mostly, because I miss the conversations and insight of you all here at HERO. I received some of the best ideas and most pertinent help right here. So, call me selfish. I'm starting over. I hope that there are a few things you can find here that are amusing or interesting and that our conversations can be helpful to everyone... Welcome to the EPIC UNIVERSE! As some of you may know, I play a rotating set of HERO games (Superheroes, Fantasy & Star Hero). We cal…
