My apologies if this has been asked before. I've only just managed to get a copy of Star HERO, and look through it thoroughly. I also can't see any other similar threads currently in existence on the board. One question sticks out: Given that a 20th-century assault rifle can do 2d6K damage, autofire, +1 STUN mod, with a 30-round clip, while giving +2 OCV and +1 RMod... why would anyone ever choose to use most of the weapons in this book? The experimental, high-power gauss cannon meant for Cyberpunk games has horrible side-effects, but it only does 2d6K AP, autofire. It's AP weapon, which is neat, but it's not that hard to make bullets AP, too, for only a minor reduct…

Because you asked for, and I was crazy enough to take on the responsibility of maintaining it, the Spacer's Toolkit Online is now up and running. Check it out by clicking the Star Hero genre link from the front page and then clicking the Toolkit link. All rules and instructions are available on those pages. I'm sure that I will be flooded with submissions and so all I ask is that you guys remain patient whil I sort everything out. Have fun!

One of my favorite shows, until they fired their, IMHO, best writer, Rob(?) Wolfe. It was this show that inspired me to start working on a SH campaign as soon as I heard the book was slated for release. Has anyone worked up anything for the Andromeda Universe? I remember, vaguely, that D-Man had started a thread on the old boards. Lemme know if you have anything. I'm gonna try to do a write-up on the Andromeda Ascendant, well... eventually.

In the Terran Empire book, pages 159/160, there are write-ups on hyperdrives. The write-ups use T'port w/megascale, which is all good. What I don't understand is, why do the write-ups have the Cost Endurance limitation? Teleport normally cost endurance, so it shouldn't get that limitation. What am I missing here?

I have a question for you guys. How much hard science do you put in your games, especially when you build worlds? I've been trying to use scientific principles for a world I'm building. I know my astrophysics pretty well, but my knowledge of geology is rudimentary at best. Even with the websites on world building I found still don't answer all my questions.

I know it has been mentioned before, but has anyone done any writeups of the Armored Core series for HERO?

Hi, I recently purchased all three of the current "Star Hero" genre books, I had held out buying them as "Star Hero" wasn't my favorite genre from the BBB era. While I did like the world, though it reminded me more of "Simon Green's Deathstalker" series, a little. I did enjoy it. Still not happy with the "Magic makes superheroes" idea but it works to a extent and as far as my own campaigns I usually don't dwell on it. But one of my dissapointments came in the form of all these cool sounding ships, and weapons and very little to any pictures to back them up. Not even a layout of how the bigger ships look. So that if my players are fighting through the decks of one o…

Greetings all, I am wanting to add battle mechs to my game. The world the PCs come from (Terra) is still rather new to making Battle mechs, so I intend on adding disadvantages to some of the systems (in particular activation rolls to simulate the unreliability of the mech), but some worlds have been using Mechs as long as Earth has been using MBTs. Does anyone have any Mecha made that they would be willing to share? Thanks in advance! Polaris

Anyone looked at creating the races from Farscape, either for an actual Farscape campaign or for inclusion in a different setting?

Greetings, As you make items for your star hero campaigns (like starships or blaster pistols), how do you calculate the price of the item (how many credits does each point cost... and is the points used the active points or real points)? Polaris

Any plans to have online database for the Spacer's Toolkit, similar to the Online USPD? Gadgets only, no ships (since math checking ships takes FOREVER!!! ). MIke

I Know some of you guys have thought about this. Have anyone already done so ? How did it turn out ? I thought about basing a RACE off of the Stargate race called Unas, the First Ones. Your basic Ettin/Troll like alien race On a side-note, does Hero already have a race like this *trollish* in another book, maybe Beastary or Fantasy ??

NuSoardGraphite, thank the gods you came. I need Veritech fighters and I need 'em fast! I recently acquired TUV with the intent of interpreting my Robotech RPG (from Palladium) into Hero. Best laid plans of mice and men...anyway, I instead started to create this thing using a "cut and paste" method with the TUV as follows: 1) basic stats from the Hornet fighter jet on TUV page 77 , increased DEF to 12 2) used Transmatron's Power Plant and Aux Power (page 111) for the Protoculture reactor. 3) used Hornet's propulsion and added Spaceflight 50" 8xNCM Flight for Space Only 4) used Hornet's 20mm M61A cannon for Gunpod. 5) used Apache propulsion system …

Since the average human is listed as having an 8 in all of their primary characteristics, is this the number that people apply the racial modifiers to, or do you add it to a base number of 10? For example, Malvans have +3 PRE. Does this mean the average Malvan has an 11 PRE or a 13 PRE?

Any one can chip in, NuSoard you out there? I have a problem with Autofire as a concept and thus the mechanic of the Advantage in HERO Why should the same bullet, beam, missle etc. be less powerful (by .5 in this case) just because of a high cycle rate or iteration? I have a Mecha MP and I find the de-powering of the same energy, just differnt advantage to be breaking my suspension of disbelief. I am in search of an arguement as to why it would work that way. If I make Autofire a 0, yes zero, adv, have badly does that mess with play balance? besides everyone having weapon that autofire. In the far future what is the ig deal? Any ideas…

Hello all! I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster. Has anyone done conversions using TUV of Steve Long's excellent SPACEDOCK series? I'm interested to see the results. Thanks!

I’m looking for some novels that may have influence or are similar to the Terran Empire Setting. I think noticed similarity between Larry Niven’s Known Space novels and the Terran Empire, can you think of any others? Mike

Some time ago (say, 1996), I had the idea that a great Sci-Fi campaign could be made by combining the works of Fred Saberhagen (specifically, the Berserkers series) and the Bolo series by Keith Laumer. For those who don't know, the Berserkers series was Saberhagen's answer to Drake's Equation. Drake turned the question of other intelligent life in the universe into a statistical equation, and solved for different results based on the best scientific estimates he could produce for the different variables. Saberhagen's series answers that question by positing a race of aliens who constructed humongous robotic starships which were programmed to search the galaxy for lif…

http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/innovation40603.asp I ran across this today, and I couldn't help but think about the universal "sensor technology" that is very common in sci-fi. Looking at how this works (especially the paragraph after the tooth images), I wonder if we are closer to something like that. Just thought I would share this with you guys.

Just wanted to give y'all the latest news -- The Spacer's Toolkit is shipping today from our printer in California. So, look for it to show up at your FLGS in about 7-10 days, typically.
