http://www.technologyreview.com/articles/innovation40603.asp I ran across this today, and I couldn't help but think about the universal "sensor technology" that is very common in sci-fi. Looking at how this works (especially the paragraph after the tooth images), I wonder if we are closer to something like that. Just thought I would share this with you guys.

Just wanted to give y'all the latest news -- The Spacer's Toolkit is shipping today from our printer in California. So, look for it to show up at your FLGS in about 7-10 days, typically.

This is an idea have been working on, combining many different aspects f other sci-fi games, and forming it all nt a supers campaign in space. I might turn this into a PBEM, so if anyone has some helpful suggestions, images, or just wants to contribute lemme know. Red Storm Rising In the late 21st Century, humanity stood upon the brink of oblivion. The world superpowers were fast moving towards war with one another, as political and economic tensions grew. As tensions flared, a movement of millions of citizens throughout the world sprung up nearly over night. At first in Internet and media campaigns, and then in acts of open protest and sabotage, tens of mi…

I own StarHero and TUV. I haven't seen a copy of TE yet, but I assume starships will be addressed in the same general way (the write-ups). All of the Hero products are outstanding and I really like them, so don't look at this as any kind of criticism. I have always had a hard time grasping ship design in game system unless I have a deck plan to compare to the write-up. It sounds stupid, but there it is. So my question is, will there be any deckplans in future StarHero suppliments or does someone have a straship write-up and deckplan they would be willing to share that I can us as an example. Spence

Hello Guys, I was just looking over the Fantasy Hero playtest and I couldn't help but notice that Fantasy/Science Fiction writer Alan Dean Foster was missing. None of his writings were mentioned. Then I went to my copy of Star Hero and realized that none of his work was even mentioned alongside other authors. Is there a reason for this? I mean he is one of my most favorite writers but he seems to be completely ignored despite the fact that he has written for both Fantasy and Science Fiction. So what's up Steve?

Does anyone know some good guidelines for creating power armor with the hero system (preferably 5th edition). I am new to the whole hero system and want to know if I should use multipower, elemental control or just a bunch of powers lumped together to make a power armor which is cost effective as well. Any help would be appreciated.

School me on planetary climate, if you would. I'm working with the planetary genereation rules in Star Hero, and there's something I'm not clear on. During the "life" step, it says that plants remove most of the CO2 from the atmosphere. But after that, what happens to the world's base temperature. Does it stay the same, and if so, how? Or does it drop due to reduction of the greenhouse effect? This results in some life-bearing worlds eventually becoming too cold to support life. Is this an in-game version of an ice-age/thaw cycle? After glaciation sets in, and the plants (mostly) die off, the CO2 level would increase, which will eventually raise th…

First off, I just got Terran Empire in the mail today. (I finally broke down and ordered it and TUV from FRP Games despite my distaste for mail ordering, since I was having trouble making it to my FLGS to ask them to order them for me.) I must say, it's a GRAND piece of work and extremely crunchy and tasty. I love Andrew Cremens' artwork on the iconic members of the various races. I was pleasantly surprised to see Albert Deschesne's work in there. The plethora of packages are very, very useful. And now I understand many of the alien species alluded to in CU and CKC. Which leads nicely into the actual question: What is the presumed date of the racial discus…

This post is mostly for Steven Long and James Cambias. It's really just the rant of someone who just switched from being a New Convert to Born Again HERO Gamer. I just want to shout Halleleuah (sp.) where I know the Creator can hear me. Yesterday, I went down to Bridgetown Hobbies in Portland, OR on the recommendation of Cosmic Man. I walked in to buy Star Hero. When I arrived at the shelf section for HERO, I felt like I had been betrayed. I had switched to HERO because I only needed one book to play. And yet, there in front of me were a dozen supplements to the rules - what trickery was this? Ninja HERO, TUV, UNTIL SPDb, Champions Universe, Millenium City…

As the figure in a dark hooded cloak approached the front gates of the palace, the gaurds raised their blaster rifles. "Identify yourself." One of them barked at the stranger. The cloaked man held out his hand, showing them a signet ring. The gaurds lowered their weapons and stood aside as he passed through the gates. Queen Myrila was started as the hooded figure entered the master chamber. "Who are you? How dare you intrude upon me, the queen of Javaria Prime, at this hour." The stranger began to laugh. "So, 'Queen Myrila' is it? Had I known you desired such a title, I might have offered you a place at my side. Parhaps this dark treachery of yours would not ha…

Hey all, wasn't sure what board to post this on but it's closer to Star Hero than anything else out there. I'm running a campaign set in the mid 21st century with a very Cyberpunk genre feel to it. I'm looking for an authentic seeming map for a Megasprawl setting but I can't seem to find anything. I own the old CyberHero suppliment and I've looked at Bay City from Champs New Millenium but neither seems to have the right feel to it. They are both just modern day San Fransisco with a very thin veneer of Cyber laid over it. Anyone know of anything out there I may have missed? Specifics please not just "Judge Dred/Shadowrun/GURPS probably has something" because I've…

Why do the ships in Terran Empire have two FTL drives? Okay it's a given that Terran Empire is a space opra style setting. I'm pretty familiar with this type of setting and I can't ever recall seeing this before. I have no problem about the idea of different races having different FTL drives. But that's not what we have here. We have one race using two different FTL drives at the same time and in the same ships no less. Why? I'd really like to know why Jim or Steve or whoever, decided to do this. Preferably by whoever made the decision. I could see the idea of the Empire using one drive in the 25th Century and switching to a more efficient one…

I am about to run a conversion of the star wars universe in Heroes. I am having trouble trying to figure out how to run modifications of equipment and droids. I was wondering if anyone had run into this problem and was looking for suggestions. Right now I have that equipment has a body value and a DEF value which is equal to the active points /5 which is huge for laser cannons that are multipowers. I want to represent that modifications are tricky business. In general I also want modifications to cause some sort of problem, quirks and the like. So far I have the idea to add a characteristic, or use the body characteristic. The character rolls their mech…

Okay bare with me here. I have a group that is...well...let us just say that they aren't to excited about playing a science fiction campaign. I on the other hand would love to GM a good sci-fi campaign my problem is that I don't know what campaign to use. The system should be obvious. No, I have Star Hero and Terran Empire. I haven't decided if I want to use Terran Empire or not, but I am thinking about it. So here I am planning to start a sci-fi campaign and looking for a setting when I thought this would be a good question for the HERO boards. What do you like in a science fiction setting? What do you look for as a player? What do you look for as a GM? Wh…

I don't own any of the new SF products HERO has been putting out besides STAR HERO. However, I've been developing something that might go into Digital Hero, so I was wondering: what format is used to describe an alien race as a whole (as opposed to a single character) in something the TERRAN EMPIRE? Is it a simple variant of the creature layout seen in the HERO SYSTEM BESTIARY?

As I sat here over my cup of coffee, I began to think back to the 'Project 3000' thread that set out to gather all of the names used by everyone for supers. Well, as I've been working on several SH campaigns and settings in various stages of development, I found myself looking through the same old links and the same books on my shelf. More and more I was starting to wonder if I had exhausted all of my potential targets for mining ideas. Instead, I thought, why not start a thread similar to Project 3000 that lists all of the books, movies, videos, DVDs, magazines and all related media in one place. At the very least it might make the idea seach a little easier for peopl…

My idea was an attempt to define a society not by a single tech level but by specific numbers related to the technology level of five basic areas. these are: Communications: 0. Pre-linguistic; no true language exists to allow communication between individuals. 1. Face to face communications; "spoken" language has been developed 2. Recorded language ; "writing" 3. Some form of signalling over a distance had been developed 4. Codified laws, political society has been developed 5. Mechanical distance communication (telegraphy) developed 6. Modern communication equivalents 7. Distance communicationm technology inherent (HRRP through implants) 8. Virtua…

I'm trying to design an alien species with a hive memory. This is not the same thing as a "hive mind." The individuals all have their own sense of self, and their own thoughts. They keep their own memories through their own lifetimes. When they die, however, their memories pass on to the next generation. My question is, how would you write this up? My first inclination is to go with some form of Clairsentience, but I'd like to see what other minds come up with. (If there are any questions about more specifics on the species, I'll be glad to fill in whatever I can. I'm only holding back now because I'm using a borrowed computer and this non-ergonomic ke…

Anyone out there ever want to play a micro campaign based on shows like Twlight Zone or the Outer Limits? I've alwasys wanted to do light sci-fi/horror using a world where weird things just happen. Like the Legacy series did for the supernatural. Characters 'generaly' stay themselves, but have to deal with ever stranger events day-by-day. This would be a very episodic game. With a lot of down time between sessions. (In the game world.)
