So, I've decided to run a full 32-character tournament for the Open Class. May Heaven have mercy on my soul. Here's the difficulty: We have 30 characters with six or more votes. All of these characters are definitely in. We also have five characters with five votes--to fill two available slots. So here's what we're going to do: We're going to have a poll for just these five characters to determine who gets the last two places. Voting begins right now and will continue until 5:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, April 8th. The top two are in. If there is still a tie at that point, I'll let the Whim of Fate decide. Our five contestants are: Atomic Robo: Tesla's greates…

I've started a Mythic Urban Fantasy game starting at a very low point level, but the idea is for the characters to eventually become godlings. In trying to figure out the 'minimum qualifications' to be a credible deity, my impression is that the bar is fairly low. Most gods don't even seem to be truly ageless, there are plenty of examples of pantheons who rely on a special food or drink to remain young or have a god or goddess of youth in the pantheon who could be responsible for the longevity of their compatriots...perhaps gods can't die of old age, but continued youth doesn't seem to be something they can take for granted. Marduk is portrayed as eventually getting old, …

Blattodea and I A Ravenna Threat Report An Indianapolis resident by the name of Martin Donnelly lives with a secret, literally. He has had a run of good luck lately. Bill collectors stopped calling, two of his worst supervisors quit suddenly, and a woman who snubbed him fell in front of a bus. Shortly thereafter the counter girl at CVS fell for him. All of this could be marked up as coincidence were it not for the simple fact of a giant alien cockroach in his basement. The walls are filled with weird writing (they look like inky bug tracks (which is what they are)), the place stinks (it is, after all, a cockroach), and the monster’s newspaper subscription is going towar…

Gantz:Hero

Over the weekend I caught the Japanese CG feature, Gantz:0 on Netflix. It got me thinking about what a Hero System game might be like in the Gantz universe, or one like it. Has anyone else here seen some form of Gantz and had any thoughts on how one might run a campaign? Aside from issues of the over-arching plot of the campaign (i.e., the alien invasion "Katastrophe"), I think there are two primary things that a GM would need in order to proceed: 1. write-ups of the player gear, and 2. write-ups of the monsters the players will be hunting in each mission. Player Gear For #1 we are lucky because it doesn't seem like there is a very wide array of gear to deal w…

Here is the poll to determine the participants in the Tournament of Heroes Street Classification! We had thirty-eight heroes nominated and seconded for the Tournament. Twenty-four of them will be selected to compete. The purpose of this thread is twofold. First, this is the Poll where we will determine the participants. Second, this is a place for you to stump for your favorite heroes and heroines! Your votes will determine who participates! I will close voting on this pool on Tuesday, February 28th at 5:00 p.m. EST. I will have a Moderator close the poll at that time. (Please and thank you.) I've arranged the candidates in alphabetical order in two lists. Vo…

As I look back on the recently completed Under 21 Tournament of Heroes (ToH), I see a couple of areas that didn't work quite the way I had envisioned them. So I'd like some feedback from all of you. The first is the Whim of Fate--the 2d4 I rolled and added to the votes to get the final scores. In short, it didn't really have much of an effect. As I recall, it changed the outcome of exactly one match, way back in the opening round. It didn't even lead to any ties, as I remember. In short, it was pretty much a non-factor. So, how should I change it? Here are some options for you to consider: * Leave it just the way it is. * Change the 2d4 to a d8 for more…

Okay, another question to consider before starting the Street Level tournament proceedings next week: Venues. We had (after the opening round) ten venues for the matches to take place in. I'd like you all to answer a couple of questions for me: 1) Did you find the inclusion of venues valuable? Did it make things more interesting and/or more fun? 2) Did the venue for the matches influence how you voted? 3) Should I include venues as part of the tournament(s) going forward? Please opine (and vote).

Before we can have a Tournament, we must have competitors. This thread is where we determine who they will be. Before discussing details, let me just get this out of the way: PLEASE NOMINATE HEROES. We’ll get a fair number of 90s-style dark & gritty anti-heroes along the way--especially in the Street Level tournament--and that’s just fine. Healthy, even. But the focus here is on heroes. So please don’t nominate villains. One day, we may have a Tournament of Villains--but today is not that day. Okay, a few simple guidelines for nominating characters: Each Forum member may nominate up to three characters per day. No more than three characters per day, please…

I am trying to simulate an old west duel. The idea is to resolve this in stages, the Face Off, the Stare-Down and the Draw. When the fighters enter the Clinch, each is considered to have a held action resolved by either drawing the weapon or quick drawing their weapon skill v.s. skill style. If one person does not have quick draw they have a -4 penalty when resolving the skill v.s. skill check. Face Off: The fighters square off against each other and reveal their intended weapon for the fight. Stare-down: In this phase both make a presence attack. they gain +1 to their draw for every two points of success. Clinch: The participants in the duel assign their skil…

For those of you who remember the 80s Thundercats cartoon, you'll probably recognize this thing as being very similar to something that was found in Mumm-Ra's pyramid. I added some of my own touches to be sure, though most of the abilities on the sheet are based on what was seen of it in the episode it appeared in and what seemed logical for such a monster have. It could easily be used as an enemy/obstacle for players in a Pulp/Horror campaign if any of the action involves doing a "dungeon crawl" through the tombs in the Valley of the Kings, for example. Feel free to use it in your games, and if you do, let me know how well your players did against it. Magically-Animated…

Just a heads-up that the first 2 seasons of the Showtime series Penny Dreadful are now available on Netflix. The series is a lot of fun and would be a great source of inspiration for a Victorian Hero campaign. Indeed all the principle characters of the series are pretty easy to imagine as heroic level Hero PCs.

Please ignore this thread. I'm leaving it here to archive my character builds for later reference, in other threads. Intended Characters Builds: All of the MCU heroes and villains, beginning with... The Ancient One (Doctor Strange 2016) Wong (Doctor Strange 2016) Doctor Stephen Strange (Doctor Strange 2016) Mordo (Doctor Strange 2016) Kaecilius (Doctor Stranger 2016) I also intend to adapt a lot of Keanu Reeves characters... Has anyone ever converted either Rifts or Nightbane to Hero system(for personal use only, of course)? I love the settings but absolutely loathe the rules, and I think Hero might be a good fit. I just got back into Hero this Christmas when I received Champions Complete. It's been decades since I cracked open a Hero System book and Champions complete is a lot easier to work with than I remember. If no one else has then I see what I must do:)

How would you build a nation in Hero. A "nation" is a human personification of, well, nations. They carry all the sterotypes associated with that nation. (For example, Canada loves pancakes, and is hard to notice by other nations; America loves hamburgers and views himself as a hero, ect...)
