I have just run a Justice Inc game for my group based on the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. They aren't really pulp fans and so were struggling for names and I wasn't feeling very creative. As I was doing my daily SPAM delete I noticed one of the names on the spam was Ulysses Hope, to my mind a fantastic JI name. I also gleaned Avalanche Gifts and Mavis Quick over the next few days. At last, I believe I have found a use for the spam that I recieve...

I was tinkering on two variations for an "End of the World" game. 1. An asteroid plumits into earth somewhere near southern California. The resulting dust and debri cast into the atmosphere has triggered a new Ice Age. The PC's have to deal with the catistrophic effects of this event. The massive die offs, the lack of power, food, etc. To make matters worse a strange mutation has seem to have taken the human population. A number of them have begun to develop Psi powers. The manifestations of these power intensify as you grow closer to the crash site. (Now a small inland sea.) But accompaning these powers are horrible physical mutations. Vast power seems to have a pri…

We are going to be experimenting with a role-playing game. We are each creating copies of ourselves as 25+25 characters. We then are given a start of 1 XP to represent any superhero power we want. Each game regardless of challange is worth 5 XP. I'm GMing this and it should prove to be interesting. Anyone ever do something like this before?

When I was doing research on Shakspeares Hamlet I found out that the essential story was taken from a Danish legend which was chroniceled by that 12th century historian : Saxo Grammaticus. What I found was a great site : http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/OMACL/DanishHistory/ This has almost all the books translated into English. It also has a real comprehensive outline and introduction discribing Viking life, laws, types of warriors, types of weapons, how they dueled, types of spells, and different magical items. It makes for a fantastic background for a viking campaign. Saxo, who was writing the legends down for the Archbishop Absolom, was still knee deep in paganism, …

I know there are occasional references in various HERO books to running a comedy game, but I don't know of anyone actually doing it. Something about the mechanical precision of HERO character creation and character modeling,. and the overall seriousness of (and emphasis on) combat seems to de-emphaisze humor. I, on the other hand, would love to see some characters who may not have any combat capabilties but have character quirks and foibles that make them funny. Sometimes funny in obvious ways, sometimes in subtle ways, but funny nontheless. Some series I am very fond of would be very difficult to translate to HERO but a lot of fun to play in, from Urusei Yatsura to …

Is there a website out there with good 5th Edition writeups of the various characters from Card Captor Sakura? The original series is about to finish its run on DVD, with the final three episodes released the second week in November and the final mvoie a week later. The manga run has already been completed. I know someone did a her write-up of Sakura and it's on the web somewhere -- I just can't remember where. But there are so many other characters besides Sakura worthy of writeups and attention, from Li Syaoran and Eriol Hiiragazawa to Yukito/Yue, keroeberos, Tomoyo daidouji, Touya (fascinating character before before and afetr he makes his great sacrifice), and K…

Rurouni Kenshin, aka Samurai X (the title under which it was originally distributed in the US), has become something of an obsession for me. I've been trying to convert certain elements over to HERO. The main one of these is an expansion on Analyse. For those who haven't seen the series, Himura Kenshin was an assassin (the best - known as the hitokiri battousai) in the Meiji restoration. He fought for the revoluationaries. Once they gained power, he retired and went a'wandering. He's a master of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, a style which concentrates on insight into an opponent's technique and the speed and power to exploit any weaknesses. There are a few genre conventi…

How do I go about buiolding a schoolgirl vampire for a horror campaign set in a high school? She would have to be extremely attractive, immune to daylight (so she can go to school and pose as a student), and capable of seducing just about anyone of either gender. She would also have to be able to drink only some of someone's blood to divert suspicion and keep a teady supply. Her goal is to create a cadre of vampires at the school and turn it into a nest of the undead.

What about a modern-day HERO campaign where the PCs are pilots flying 'super high-tech jet fighters"? We're talking the ultimate cutting-edge flying war machines, sent on the secret and most dangerous missions by the government while having to spend the rest of their time on the carrier engaging in all sorts of pursuits, from black market activity to trying to figure out what is really behind all the more unusual missions their squadron has to take on. One could even have memebrs of such a group find out their squadron is being used on "rogue" missions that advance some secret agenda of some secret agency rather than their country's true interests, and that they…

Hey all, anyone hear anything about Cyber Hero being released? This was one of my favorite genre books ever put out...yeah, it wasn't that complete and was the only one released, but it was still cool. I saw that this was 'tentative' on their list of products...but I'm really looking forward to a release of this for 5th Ed. On a related topic, I'd love to have a website to post Cyber Hero characters, gear, cyberware, etc. that I have created myself. Additionally, there may be some related house rules associated with them. Is this going to break any kind of copyright rule? I'd like to make sure that I'm not violating this kind of thing if I start posting stats, r…

While browsing the discussion boards of the Starship Modelers website, I came across the following ditty: I like big mechs and I cannot lie I love it when my missiles fly That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty mech And some ECM in your face You get LOCK! (originally posted by Haywire to the Starship Modelers discussion board) I got a good laugh out of this when I first saw it last night, so I thought I'd post it here to share the chuckles. Enjoy! I have long been considering a campaign based on the Spanish Inquisition and Machiavelli's The Prince. Lots of political intrigue, backstabbing, religious persecutions, and all that general goodness. I had originally excluded the use of powers in the campaign, but then I thought about the damage psychics could wreak. Then I can add Orwell's 1984 into the mix. Can you say "thought crime"? BTW, I also posted this in the WOTC board (with a few changes) to see what that group thought of it.

One old west lawman who doesn't get much recognition nowadays is Utah's Orrin Porter Rockwell. Porter Rockwell has basically the same status in Utah as Wyatt Earp has in Arizona. Of course, his good guy/bad guy status depends greatly on who you talk to (Mormons love him, basically nobody else does.) He was an excellent rider (helped found and run one of the carrier lines that served as precurser to the poney express), a good shot, an unequaled tracker. His most distinctive feature was a prophesy made by Joseph Smith, December 25, 1843: “I prophesy, in the name of the Lord, that you Orrin Porter Rockwell – so long as ye shall remain loyal and true to thy faith, need fe…

A colonization ship was sent from Earth exactly one year ago after the discovery of a habital planet on the otherside of a wormhole. This ship contains two groups of colonizers to prepare the planet for a massive transport ship in two years time. The two colonizer groups consist of 100 people each. The continent that has been selected is determined to have three prime colonization locations and two secondary locations. Each of the groups has a main craft with all basic survival gear and two cargo supplies with advanced gears (communications, transportation, and medical supplies). The primary objective is to establish two base colonies. The secondary objective is…

Okay, guys......... Here's the deal, I only recently caught up on my Lovecraft - mainly due to a player who loaned me the books as his character in my game was going down that path. Things are now going "swell" and we're coming to an accelerated ending of the plotline kicked off when this massively brilliant (like 80 INT at that time) scientist got a hold of THE Necronmicon. Bwahahahahahaha. So here's the deal (if you're in my game, this is not a spoiler, this is the setup sent to the Sihn player): (WARNING - LONG but I hope entertaining - and there's a plea for help at the end so please do skim if you are into Lovecraft and Champions HERO): Re…
