Some commercial a couple hours ago was mentioning the MMA. I was only half paying attention (working on computer) so I heard instead of MMA but "anime" This got me thinking of MMA anime. That actually sounded like a cool idea for a minute. I think I must be way too tired.

The forums at the Champions Online website have become top-heavy recently with complaints, criticisms, and general expressions of dissatisfaction; and the recent announcement of the Vibora Bay expansion having to be paid for seems to have brought all that to a frothing head. Of course, that's the nature of most online communities. Since folks here on the Hero Games forums probably have less of an emotional investment in the MMO, and mostly come to it from the background of PnP Champions gamers, I have hopes that discussing the subject here might be more balanced and constructive. (I apologise if that sounds naive.) So, what has your experience of Champions Online b…

THE WELL OF THE WORLDS I started a new campaign (of 16-24 episodes) over Labor Day Weekend. Called The Well of the Worlds, it can be best summed up as El Hazard meets Land of the Lost. You can read more about it here: http://surbrook.devermore.net/worldbooks/well/well.html While it has a strong lost worlds Pulp feel, I'm placing it here because the PCs will certainly end up with nigh-superhuman capabilities once the game starts to wrap up and reach the end point. Thus, the game is a mish-mash of Champions, Pulp, Fantasy, and lost worlds goodness. The Cast Billy Jo Earl Brown -- construction worker from the state of Georgia. Calvin Murdoch -- frus…

For the past week I have been researching early firearms. Everything from the earliest chinese armament to the 18th century. Largely it appears up until the early 19th century Flintlocks were the most widely used firearms. However, the only predecessors I could find out about just before flintlock weapons are matchlocks. However, I have found mentions and such of Wheellock and I am wondering what exactly was involved with these firearms? What were the differences between it and Match and Flintlock weapons?

I managed to find another gameable webcomic. The Inexplicable Adventures of Bob! seems to have potential as a setting. The basic premise is that a mild-mannered newsstand owner in Generictown USA, Bob Smithson has become a true weirdness magnet. Things keep on crashing into his roof, for example. (The lengths he has to go to to get it repaired is a running gag). One of his best friends is an alien queen in a human disguise (her real form is that of a large butterfly-like creature). His newly-minted girlfriend is a genius geneticist. And then there's the result of theirr chance meeting, when his new jar of peanut butter was caught in a collision with her experimental …

No idea if this has been done, but I'm looking to make an RPG based on China Mievilles Bas-Lag trilogy and have decided to use the Hero system for it. So far I have been making templates for the various races and reading up on how combat works. But are there any tips for making an original campaign, and one based on ready-made lore?

In my successful iterations of PA games, scrounging has been one of the key components of fun for the players. I tend toward 'gritty' types of games, and as a GM any genre is at least a little gritty in my hands (even Star Trek). One thing I have always done is give players equipment that is generated randomly, with some choices made by them, in essentially a character creation mini-game. Under special circumstances I might allow a player to purchase equipment, but I never allow advantages like Wealth so they can buy equipment with monetary assets. During actual game play I have also used these equipment generation tables for random loot. I use a custom Scrounging sk…

Today I signed a two-year licensing contract with HERO Games, giving me the green light to convert the out of print '80s tabletop RPG "Skyrealms of Jorune". (Thanks, Jason! *waves*) The author of Jorune has graciously given permission for me to use Jorune as a conversion setting so long as it is a free offering. HOWEVER, he stated that he would authorize a paid version if he approved of the product before hand. This is my goal. SO, at the very least, this is a labor of love and I get to play in Jorune again, as well as reintroduce it to players who may not even know the setting. At the BEST, it's an inroad to creating something that'll sell as …

I am not intending to do a full White Wolf conversion, but I do want to a good rough conversion of the work. It may take me a bit to get 'er done I do not yet have the Scion:Hero book and am working off the WW wiki. The following is a conversion of the Knacks....at least the first three. There are some that are missing and I am sure that there are some problems with some of the powers listed below. Please feel free to chime in an critique. Strength Knacks Power: Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand Name: Crushing Grip Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 1d6 (3d6 w/STR), Constant (+1/2) (22 Active Points); Must Follow a Grab (-1), Required Hands Two-H…

So, I have an old copy of "Bushido," the game from FGU way back when (1981), and would love to do an RPG set in feudal Japan where the PCs are bushido (and maybe other types as well). However, I find FGU games nearly impenetrable when I try to get thru the rules. I guess it's their off-putting arrangement of rules (examples: "1063.4b Mystical Acquisition of Shengudo," "1053.2a Study of Okuden") and unusual approach to character creation, or maybe it's just me. The game is actually a very good genre book for getting a game up and running, but it might be easier to actually play using Hero System instead of "Bushido." Anyway, are there any materials for Hero Syste…

I was perusing the Genre-Crossover Nightmare thread and, apropo of nothing, I started trying to recall some of the more bizarre crimes (successful or not) that I've used in various games (Hero or otherwise). As it's not quite 4:30am here, I'm certainly not recalling all of the ones I've thrown my players with, but two that really stood out in my memory were: Attempt to steal the Rocky Mountains (and if you didn't guess Foxbat was the one that dreamed this up, you should be poked ) Serial Vivisectionist and Re-Animator (for a short-lived [pun intended] Lovecraftian Justice, Inc. game) Curious to see what other "not exactly on the legal radar" type crimes various GMs …

Like I pointed out over in the Star Hero Forum, startrek online will get Free to play at 17. January (1701). Now, the intoerstign part is that the Chapions Online Launcher can also function as Launcher for Star Trek Online and I think the other way around could be true too (but I have no idea if the way is the same). Here is the path for Champiosn Online: Start the Cryptic Launcher for Champiosn Online. Options -> Check "Show all games". Restart the launcher and log in. Now, above the Patch Progress Bar you will find a Selection for the Shard. The only two availible should be "Champiosn Online - Live" and "Star Trek Online - Holodeck". Note that the…

Anybody ever use the Hero System for a pirates-type game (set in the Spanish Main or elsewhere)? If so, how did it go and do you have any tips? I'd love to get a pirate game going sometime.
