Steampunk has been kinda trendy lately. Its slightly more modern cousin dieselpunk isn't doing badly either. But I'm not sure if I really get it. Is there something about these periods which lends itself to 'punk-ification'? Or could this aesthetic be plastered onto any other period/tech level/genre/whatever? (I've seen the terms dungeonpunk, and gothicpunk tossed around as well.) If this goes on, are we going to see 'medievalpunk' stories about an alternate version of the middle ages, or 'atomicpunk' (with apologies to Van Halen) tales set in the 'secret history' of the cold war? Looking at more futuristic genres, would nanopunk or fusionpunk be viable? And if…

Ever so often there is a “monster” movie during the daytime on the SyFy channel. My son and I have watched several of these movies together over time. And I thought they would make a good genre for a role playing games. The premise is pretty consistent from movie to movie. Group is in an out-of-the-way place. They get involved with the monster in the area (usually unwillingly), a lot of npcs die, and the remaining group (the PCs) either have to destroy the monster or destroy where the monster is living. Monsters: The movies differ in which monsters are depicted. (Giant Wasps/bees. Swarm of deadly insects, mythological monster, Giant Spiders, ½ human - …

I was a major fanboy of the original, and will be seeing the sequel as soon as I possibly can. This thread is for statting out anything related to the movies and related media. Identity Disc is its own 1-point Weapon Familiarity group. Light Cycle is part of the Two-Wheeled Motorized Vehicles group (thus, a User who knows this group will be able to drive a Light Cycle). Light Jets may be treated similarly with their real-world counterparts. Tanks and Recognizers may take their own 1-point TFs (or at least may be part of their own in-System TF groups). I have included my take on the Light Cycle, based on not particularly recent viewings of the ori…

Some of you recall the martial art Paek-Tu, from Aaron Allston's Strike Force supplement. Practitioners know the following factual material- Paek-Tu Mountain (Paek-Tu San) is a disputed site between Korea and China. Chinese call it Cho Haku Zan. Koreans consider this mountain holy. Paek-Tu is 2,744 meters tall, almost as tall as Japan's Mount Fuji. It is topped by a caldera lake, "Heaven's Pond." There is a Chinese rumor of a dinosaur in the lake, like "Nessie," the Loch Ness monster. Dulzuck is the fruit which is reaped mainly from Paek Tu Mt. region. The scientific name is VACCINIUM ULIGINOSUM LINNAEUS and this breed grows spontaneously in the hill…

Inspired by the programming on a US cable channel this evening: As the subject line says, who do you think would win in a stand up fight: John Preston from the Kurt Wimmer film "Equilibrium" or Judge Dredd from the comic series (and film) of the same name (ie; "Judge Dredd") ? John Preston has gun kata but Dredd has the Lawgiver Mark II......Hmmmmm ? -Carl-

Because it has cross genre potential, I am posting this here: http://www.thirdage.com/news/intelsat-galaxy-15-zombie-satellite-brought-back-life_1-1-2011 Just one possibility: The reason the satellite went dark was that, just like with one of the "Scoop" series of satellites in the late 1960's, a micrometeorite impacted it. And like the Scoop in question this micrometeorite had a passenger. But unlike the Wildfire incident, this passenger took a little over 8 months to regenerate itself.... -Carl-

The 1897 Sears and Roebuck catalog reprint, ISBN 1-60239-063-0 This little book allows you to price out just about anything the players can come up with, with prices and sometimes detailed information about the item's use. Combine that with information about the salaries paid in 1890, and you have a darn good idea of how much money to allow players in a short time. Unskilled Labor $1 - $2 a day. Skilled Labor $2 - $4 a day. Expert Labor $4 - $8 a day. This varies largely from area to area, based on demand for the services. Anyway, just thought I would point that out for people wanting Victorian era gameplay. Enjoy!

I almost put this on the "Hero goes to the movies" thread but it really wasn't quite in the spirit of that thread so I decided to give this its own thread. Steve stated out a Thundarr the Barbarian setting clone in Post Apocalyptic Hero. Well I just found that Thundarr the Barbarian has finally just this fall been made available on DVD. So for those of you who want to relive your childhoods (or possibly adolescence), here's a link where you can get your very own copy for any post-apocalyptic fantasy "research" you may have to do. http://www.wbshop.com/Thundarr-The-Barbarian-The-Complete-Series-198082/1000180186,default,pd.html?cgid=&AID=10811526&PID=41…

Ok, guys, If we want to see some activity in our SG, I think we're going to need to nominate someone to take over the organizing force of the SG. Steve hasn't been on in forever, so I don't think we can look to him for that. Ideally it should be someone with a long-term commitment to the game, which probably means a lifetime subscriber. I'd be willing to do it, but I'm not a lifetime subscriber. I got the 6-month package, and I'm not currently planning to renew when it runs out -- at least not until they come out with an expansion or some other compelling reason to re-up. I like CO, but I hate subscription fees and I have other interests that need tending to. …

Ok starting Sun 12/19/09 10pm pacific, Im going to do a weekly get together for champions online saturdays and sundays at 10pm. Planning on doing 5 man content namely nemcon or TT, as a fallback will do SL or DF depending on how many people we get and what the group wants (or attuned to in the case of TT). Honestly dont expect much for the first couple weeks due to the holidays, but want to get some content done with more than just me. Contact on the hero board chat, and if someone has a vent server up it would be apriciated if we can use it. Also post here if you can attend so we know we have people comming. Any thoughts on a better time also post here. Thanks. Powe…

SEMPER FI FADE IN ON 1 INTERIOR: NARROW CORRIDOR AND STAIRWELL. The corridor is OLD and DINGY, with scattered spots of RUST, WATER STAINS, and the like. The LIGHTS are dim resulting in dark SHADOWS. THE CAMERA pans over three XSWAT OFFICERS standing near one wall. They are (in order): OFFICER MIYAKO BENEDICT TROOPER OFFICER STEFFENS IOTA EMPATH OFFICER FERRER TROOPER/SNIPER BENEDICT is on point, carrying a COMBAT SHOTGUN. The FLASHLIGHT under the barrel is on and she is panning it around constantly, checking all corners. STEFFENS is next. He is a rookie, scarcely a few months into his stint with XSWAT. He also looks to be either SICK …

Has anyone written up Cartman's Super ID or the rest of his friends? Might be useful for someone running a PS238 or even Teen Champions campaign. In addition to Eric Cartman, the team includes: Mysterion (Kenny McCormick), immortal Human Kite (Kyle Broflovski), flies and shoots lasers from his eyes Iron Maiden (Timmy), indestructable (Power Armor?) Mosquito (Clyde Donovan), bitten by a radioactive mosquito Toolshed (Stan Marsh), mental bond with powertools Tupperware (Token Black), cyborg with plastic parts Mint Berry Crunch (Bradley Biggle), the power of mint and berry with a satisfying tasty crunch Anyone got a suggestion for write-ups?

It's been a long while since I posted an update on what's been happening with this title. The book has been edited and finalized for print. The logo, page background, and sidebar art are also done. The only thing left to do is the book art and layouts from what I understand from what Jason has told me. The cover is coming along nicely with it nearing completion in its final colorized form. I can't wait to see it.
