Since it has uses as a plot hook in a variety of genres I'll post this here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20101011/sc_space/forgetbigasteroidsitsthesmallerrocksthatsneakinandblowup From the article: "...."We talk about the big ones all the time, and we're getting rid of the threat for those," said Bill Ailor, director of the Center for Orbital and Reentry Debris Studies. "But the small ones are going to be a continuing threat. And the challenge is what do we do about that," said Ailor, also a leading planetary defense expert at The Aerospace Corp. in El Segundo, Calif. "We might not see them in time." Similar in view was Don Yeomans, manager of NASA's Ne…

Got a western game brewing for my group. Got plenty of resources put together and have been a fan of westerns since I was a kid. Still I wouldn't mind some suggestions, examples, resources and tips if y'all don't mind. I also can't decide whether 5th edition or 6th would be better...I have access to both

With the release of Star Wars III, I've been thinking about Campbell's idea of the monomyth, and wondering if it would be reflected by the 20th Century American mythos, the Wild West as presented in the movies. If you were to make a list of the ten or 12 movies that absolutely define the genre of the Western, movies only please no TV series, what would you include on the list? The only one that I am sure of at this point is The Magnifecent Seven. How the West Was Won is on the "maybe" list, but I realize that I may be too emotionally attached to that move and it may not be as good as I think it is. Anyone?

So I was re-reading the manga SILENT MÖBIUS and getting ready to watch the anime over again when I got the idea to take a gander at your setting material for SILENT MÖBIUS ZETA. And all I get is 404-Page not found. Did you retire the SILENT MÖBIUS ZETA world book?

I apologise if I'm being presumptuous, but since many visitors to these forums bypass the website home page I feared interested folks might overlook this announcement. The new prices are now in effect in the Hero Games online store.

Having had cause recently to search the Old Forum threads for the previous substantial threads on converting from RIFTS, I thought it might be useful to post them here for people interested in using some of that idea-rich but system-clunky Siembieda material. These threads include quite a few conversions of tech, character types, packages, concepts etc. Aside from a few minor differences between 4th and 5th Ed. HERO, they're readily usable. Hope you enjoy. Detailed discussion of various RIFTS game mechanics, conversion guidelines and examples, and writeups for several character classes: http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000157.html http://www…

I've caught a couple of commercials for this upcoming series and, based on the limited info I have, thought it might have some potential for anyone running Teen Champions.....YMMV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_Prep -Carl-

My daughter has developed a fondness for the Toy Story movies, watching them over and over. Has anyone ever done a sort of Toy Story Hero campaign? They would seem to be set up as low-point Heroes as they are portrayed in the movies, maybe with a few little special abilities (like Buzz being able to jump pretty far with an Acrobatics roll).

I was toying with the idea of a Horror/Urban Fantasy Monster Hunter Game in hero system. Basically, the players have been recruited by a mysterious patron (a powerful, veteran monster hunter) working for a larger shadowy organization (it is cell based to that when the underlings inevitably go insane or become monsters the organization isn't compromized) and are sent on missions to investigate and neutralize supernatural threats. The PCs will likely be supernatural themselves, but I get lots of influence on how the supernatural effects are bought and there will be many dangers and disads to using or even having such abilities. For example, a werewolf would have increase…

Happened across one of the apparently several titles already in this series today and it seemed to me to have source materiel possibilities. Basic facts are (as far as a quick, not buying the book due to budget issues, scan would allow me to discern) that there is (and has been in one form or another since being conceived of by Abraham Lincoln) a special covert group who operate from within the national archives to monitor and control the public perception of historical events. And, as part of this effort, dispatch teams to deal with such things as the resurfacing of the submarine which inspired Jules Verne to write 20,000 leagues Under The Sea.... The book I re…

Hi, I will be running Luche Libre hero after vacation in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone could post some characters from their games so that I could use them in my campaign. I would also like to know how their adventures went when they ran their Luche Libre games. Much appreciated.

Has anyone else ever done this one? I once ran a game centered around a group of "loser" heroes on about the level of Arthur from "The Tick." The characters included the likes of Ratman (with the ability to turn into a completely normal - if slightly more intelligent than usual - rat, and who was strong enough to - in his player's colorful terms - "lift a really, really fat guy!"), the Gamer (who threw different-shaped dice at people, and that was it), 2 Ton Mary (a librarian who was made of steel - literally - she only fit into the set because of her utter and complete lack of any skill relating to making the best use of her strength and toughness), and Mr. Nobody, who…

Kazei 5 book and .pdf review by Scott (steelwulf99) So, why should you trust my review? The short answer is that you shouldn't. You should check things out for yourself - not so hard if you're at your local gaming store thumbing through the book. Much harder online. Hopefully this review will be beneficial to those of you in the latter category. A note on my spelling - I am in New Zealand, so the Queen's English shall be the order of the day. Unsuspecting Americans, prepare to be ambushed by extra U's and a dearth of Z's in words! Physical considerations The book is made in the style of 5E supplements. That is to say it is black and white interior, …

Horror Hero rant 1 2 3

You're right Susano,They're aren't "Losers" in Lovecraft or many Horror stories. For the most part, they are normal people reacting in realistic ways to things that are completely beyond human experience, not blase Cosmic Powered Superheroes that can eat stars and fart blackholes. Yet most of them STILL MUSTER THE COURAGE TO ACT. That is heroism, not bullying something with your unbeatable powers and posturing about it. I'll grant more movie characters are suffering from a severe lack of self preservation instinct, but take Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later, for example. I wouldn't call most of the characters in it "Spineless losers", but scared people trying their …

Probably been beaten to death But there have been a lot of great series hit the US in the last year or so. With that in mind. Which Anime series would you like to either run as a campaign, base a campaign on its concept or would like to see a source book about?

I recently picked up Valve's Orange Box for OS X, and have started playing things like Portal (addictive), Team Fortress II (still trying to get a handle on that one), and Half-Life 2 (doubly addictive.) Has anyone ever done any work with converting elements of Half-Life II to Hero? I'm curious, as there are a lot of neat elements that I've seen so far (if you've played HL2, I'm at the bridge [the really long one, with the trains]), on the way to the prison.

I tried searching the Forums, and such, with no avail. An Avatar Hero game recently popped up on RPOL.net, and got me thinking. It would be nice to make a Fan Created Sourcebook, for the setting. Does anyone know if this has already been done? or if you have it on your "to do" lists. We are having tons of ideas float between the players. Putting them down, would be cool. EDIT: After posting this message, the Similar threads are popped up with a few places, I guess the Search did not want to tell me about. Sorry if I started something I shouldn't have.
